Beauty is radical
The Calm Before The Storm......
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Nathie Katzoff is a contemporary artist from Seattle who is moved to work in a variety of mediums: wood, glass, metals, paint. His art celebrates nature in both its calm tranquility and fierce destruction. He is internationally known for his art stairs and large scale architectural sculpture. His abstract glass murals, made of fused glasses and glazes, bring sculptural depth to wall-mounted pieces so that their surfaces undulate and ripple like so lidified lava—a function of the fluid nature of the casting and fusing processes.
Nathie Katzoff was raised in New England where he received an alternative education devoted to freedom of self-expression, and creativity.. He comes from a family with a strong connection to the arts and is honored to count Allen Ginsberg as a not too distant relative. The Beatnik philosophy is very much present in his fervent dedication to the freedom of self-expression in his own life.
In 2011, Katzoff founded NK Woodworking & Design, an art-based woodworking company that does installations all over the world.
In 2021, he opened Nathie Katzoff Art & Design Gallery in Seattle, showcasing his own work along with that of other artists.

WE FOUND THE OASIS
WISHING FOR FOG
Swirling greens, blues, greys give a sense of movement across this piece. The splashes of color at the center provide a focal point, like an island of calm in the midst of a brewing storm.
This mural captures the potent energy of something about to be unleashed, in the same way that a storm can either errupt or blow over, as a passing gentle fog.
AFTER THE GLACIERS
The majestic power of glaciers can be seen in the dramatic way they carve out the landscapes they travel over.
This piece signifies the hope of new life being restored after a long period of dormancy.
A ROYAL HEART
IN BLOOM
The Interaction of Form and Light.....
Each of Katzoff’s glass mural abstracts are unique.
The colors and hues interact with the light of the space in which they are hung - so the surface can subtly change depending on the time of day and quality of the light.
In this way, the pieces almost come “alive” and give a sense of movement as they are viewed from different angles.

AFTER THE DESERT STORM
Glass and sand are made of the same substance.
The intricate details in this piece are an abstracted representation of particles of sand and debris as they are swept up in a storm and carried for several miles before coming to rest in an entirely new location.
Katzoff views sand as a metaphor for disruption and change - but creating something new and beautiful in the process.
THE AWAKENING
Katzoff has spent many hours sailing his ketch in the Pacific Ocean, and catching waves on his surf board.
Playing in Nature can be a battle with powerful elements, with the thrill of uncertainty hovering in the air, and senses alert and heightened for what is to come.
In deep contrast, these experiences can also provide peaceful times for reflectionsuch as enjoying a beautiful sunrise over the water.
This mural reflects rich golden light onto the surface on which it is hung..

THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN
The glass murals add reflective hues and a gentle ambiance to the space in which they are hung.
MOSS AT MIDNIGHT
The Glass Murals are very sculptural and not totally flat against the wall. On average they sit approximately 6-8” from the surface.
A JOINING OF SPIRIT Cast and fuzed art glass w/carved sapele mahogany wood
The irridescent colors in this piece are reminiscent of a glistening snake skin as it is glimpsed disappearing from sight into the undergrowth. A fleeting moment of beauty captured in glass.
OPHEODRYS VERNALISMORE WORKS..........
Katzoff is a prolific contemporary artist, working in multiple mediiums of glass, wood, metals, and acrylic and oil paints.
The following pieces are a small sample of his sculptural work and, oil paintings on canvas.
In addition to working with the medium of glass, Katzoff is also skilled at working with wood - bending, plying and shaping it to create elegant natural forms, and organic curves.
In this way, he masterfully transforms hard, solid materials into an experience of softness and fluidity.
