The national geographic journeys difference National Geographic’s earliest explorers liked to dig in, immerse themselves in new places, and get to know the local people, their traditions, cuisine, and everyday lives. That same passion for discovery is behind each of our National Geographic Journeys—which means you’ll get closer than you ever imagined when you explore with us.

It’s the places you go Follow the Inca Trail on a four-day trek with a great reward: the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Venture into the national parks of Rwanda and Uganda to track chimpanzees and mountain gorillas with a naturalist guide and meet scientists at a research center founded by National Geographic grantee Dian Fossey. Discover Jerusalem’s Old City on a specially designed dual-narrative walking tour with two guides, one Israeli and one Palestinian, and hear their perspectives on some of the city’s most meaningful sites. Set out to explore Canada’s majestic arctic landscape in search of polar bears and arctic foxes, and meet with representatives from a leading polar bear conservation group.

It’s the experiences you have Flip tortillas with a family in their home in Costa Rica— and then set out on a variety of adventures amid the rain forests that surround Arenal Volcano. Visit the Paris studio of renowned National Geographic photographer and explorer Reza, and take a behind-thescenes tour of his workspace. Go backstage at the famous Shanghai Acrobatic Show in China and meet the performers. Spend an evening with a storytelling troupe near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, and enjoy a traditional meal together.

My name in Vietnamese means “independent”—I was born one year after the war ended in 1975. I was born in Nam Dinh Province, at the end of the Red River Delta, not far from Hanoi. My parents were farmers so my childhood memories were rice, chicken, pigs, and water buffalo—and the image of countryside. The Red River Delta is where water puppets, folk music, and pho come from.

Join Buddhist monks in Thailand for a prayer ceremony and a chance to talk about daily life.

Akayi Htet, Myanmar (Burma) I am from the city of Yangon. My English teacher became a tour guide and I was proud of him. So I took the test and I passed and now I am here as a CEO! I really like meeting different people from different countries. And I really want everyone in the world to see what it’s like in Burma. There is still a very small amount of tourism here, so it is very different than other Asian countries. Hobbies: Reading, traveling, and music Favorite things to do on tour: See pagodas—we have many! Shwedagon, that’s the landmark of Myanmar. You can’t imagine how beautiful it is, coated with gold leaf. You can see not only the pagoda, but also people and their ways of life there. Also, the sunrise balloon ride over the pagodas of Bagan. Tips for travelers to Myanmar: Be open and be relaxed.
