EXPLORE MACHU PICCHU

EXPLORE NORTH INDIA AND THE GANGES

DEAR T R AV E L E R Over the past year, our National Geographic Journeys travelers have explored incredible places like the wilds of Patagonia and the cobblestoned villages of Croatia, connecting with local people and traditions and making lifelong memories. They set out on safari in Namibia with researchers from the Cheetah Conservation Fund, stayed overnight at a Buddhist monastery nestled in a Nepalese valley, and hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu—adventures fit for a true explorer. The incredible value these trips offer has made it possible for more travelers to share in National Geographic’s distinguished tradition of exploration. With our partner, small-group tour operator G Adventures, we’ve grown our collection to more than 80 itineraries, which span the globe from the lava fields of Iceland to India’s Kerala backwaters. Each tour is led by a dynamic local guide with strong ties to the communities we visit. These relationships lay the foundation for our immersive experiences—

2

I

meeting a Maori elder in New Zealand, for example, or learning to cook traditional dishes at a family-run agriturismo in Italy. And wherever possible, we visit projects supported by the National Geographic Society or G Adventures, such as an Australian research aquarium or a sea turtle conservancy in Costa Rica. No matter which tour you choose, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to make the experience your own. Each trip has optional excursions and free time built into the itinerary— so you can dine at that newsworthy restaurant you’ve been reading about, follow up on a travel tip from a local, or simply relax. Our accommodations have been selected for their value and convenience, which in turn gives you even more freedom and flexibility.

G E T TO K N O W S O M E O F O U R C EO S Each trip is led by a Chief Experience Officer—or CEO—your greatest resource on your trip. They’ll share insights on area traditions, connect you with interesting people wherever you go, and even offer recommendations for restaurants or things to do in your free time. Meet a few CEOs below.

DA N I E L B. , CENTRAL AMERICA I love my job because when I’m walking through a tropical cloud forest or an ancient ruin or when I’m watching whales breach on the Pacific or schools of fish in a coral reef, I can call it my office. I meet people from all over the world and we get to learn from each other, and share great moments that will become cherished memories. It’s incredible to see the change that occurs in people as they experience a new place, watch an animal they had always hoped to see, challenge themselves to try something they never imagined they would, or alter their perception through interaction with a different culture. It’s exciting for me to be there for these experiences, and help travelers make the most out of the trip.

P A I N G T. , M YA N M A R (BURMA) My favorite place to take travelers is Inle Lake. The first thing they see is its natural beauty, and then they get to know the culture and traditions of the people who call this place their home. Seeing the floating villages and leg-rowing fishermen, visiting the local markets, and learning to cook traditional Burmese dishes in a chef ’s home gives our travelers the chance to really understand what life is like here. I love having the chance to share my pride and passion for my country with each group of travelers, and to watch them fall in love with Burma, too.

JA FA R A . , C A N A DA I love getting the opportunity to show people some of the most beautiful places in my country. I’ll never forget how the Rocky Mountains made me feel the first time I experienced them, and to get to be the one to help bring that same sensation to other travelers is really special. A big part of our culture is just being outside and enjoying nature, visiting this range of environments— from the rugged peaks of the Canadian Rockies to the lush rain forests of Vancouver Island—is such an important part of the experience.
