Choose from a variety of hiking and horseback-riding excursions, see ancient rock paintings, join local gauchos for a traditional barbecue, and enjoy the wonderful amenities of your hotel. DAYS 3–6 I USHUAIA/BEAGLE CHANNEL/ CAPE HORN/CHILEAN FJORDS Learn about the ecology of Tierra del Fuego on a morning hike. After a walking tour of Ushuaia, DAYS 11–12 I PUNTA ARENAS/MAIPO VALLEY/SANTIAGO Fly from Punta Arenas to Santiago, and continue to a winery in Maipo Valley, where we’ll gather for an elegant meal with Chilean wine pairings. Explore the estate’s vast parklands, take a behind-the-scenes tour of the winery, and enjoy a wine tasting and lunch. Later, see preColumbian art at the Andino Museum. Diego Pol Paleontologist Diego Pol is head of the science department at the Egidio Feruglio paleontology museum in Patagonia. He has led National Geographic–sponsored research expeditions and published over 90 papers on fossils from Patagonia to Madagascar and Mongolia to Brazil. Diego and his team have discovered fossils of over 20 new species in Patagonia, including the largest known dinosaur, the titanosaur Patagotitan mayorum.
