Australian Heritage Week April 11-19 Australian Heritage Week is a national celebration of our heritage, a chance to discover and explore our built, cultural and natural heritage. This year’s program includes talks, guided walks, performances, a children’s play day and new ways to explore our heritage with the Adelaide City Explorer mobile app. There’s music, mystery, debate, contemplation and family fun. Join us for a week of discovery and delight.

Opera at Anlaby Station: Cosi Fan Tutti Breathtaking opera under the stars at this remarkable 175 year old heritage estate. Co-Opera’s production of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutti is sure to delight. Victoriana: Old fashioned day of play at Beaumont House Take the children back to the Victorian era for a day of old fashioned games and play in the beautiful grounds of Beaumont House. Enjoy stories, music and dancers, feed baby farm animals, and try some parlour and outdoor games from long ago! Food stalls and Devonshire teas available. Sunday 12th April, 10am-4pm Beaumont House 631 Glynburn Road, Beaumont. Entry at the gate: Adults $5, Children $2.

Mary MacKillop’s Adelaide Australia’s first saint, Mary MacKillop, lived in Adelaide for 5 years. In that time, she established schools and charitable institutions on well-known Adelaide streets, leaving a lasting mark on the city. A walk on the dark side of Adelaide’s history

Heritage reborn: A tour of Adelaide’s revitalised heritage buildings

An all-day event for heritage and planning professionals, providing a hands-on opportunity for planners to learn what to look for when assessing development applications affecting built heritage. Presented by the State Government Heritage Unit in conjunction with the Local Government Association of SA.

Dig beneath the surface to uncover some of the city’s darker stories. Journey on this street tour into a much darker side of human nature! Murder, tragedy, forgotten executions and bushrangers. Learn about some of the crimes that led the perpetrators to the gallows and stand where some of the events unfolded.

Cold Case: Somerton Man Mystery

Dissect the evidence of Adelaide’s most famous cold case, with a panel of experts including a forensic DNA specialist from the US. Who was the man found dead on Somerton beach in 1948? Was he murdered? Panel discussion followed by a guided tour with the new walking trail in the Adelaide City Explorer mobile app.

The Rymill House Foundation presents Eric Carlson, world acclaimed architect for icon brands Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co, Tag Heuer and Longchamp in a public lecture on distinguishing factors that give luxury brands global appeal and how to create inspirational places and spaces for the City of Adelaide.

Silent Witnesses: Stories of the Statues

Treasured Trees

April 18th is International Day of Monuments and Sites, a day to celebrate heritage places of local, national and international significance. This year we will be introducing some of the city’s famous and less well known monuments with a public talk and guided walk from Simon Cameron’s Silent Witnesses. Our city is unique in retaining large tracts of its original vegetation in the Adelaide Park Lands, as well as a diverse range of specimen and avenue plantings. Come and discover a selection of our most treasured trees and avenues. Meet at the Botanic Gardens before taking a guided walk to some of the most remarkable and beloved trees in the city.
