This tour will take in the sites relating to the bombing of Katherine and other key defence force places including the WWII hospital and abattoir. It begins and returns to O’Keeffe House that was the wartime officers mess. O’Keefe House - 1pm Cost: $10 per person

This is your opportunity to look inside the four 1930-era houses in the heritage precinct. These houses are perfect for the Top End climate and reflect a different style of living than we are used to today – a time before air-conditioners and even ceiling fans!! Three local speakers will reflect on the war-time in the Top End. There will be talk of the evacuation of citizens during WWII, the lives of Japanese people in Darwin and how the Chinese dealt with the difficulties of living through dangerous times. Tuesday 21 April – WWll 16 Mile Camp Heritage Walk
The camp was a military base during World War II. One of the camp’s roles was to act as a strategic fortress in case the Japanese overran or at least isolated Darwin in a land assault. It serves to demonstrate the vulnerability of Darwin from attack during the war. 16 Mile Camp, McKillop Court, Johnston - 5.30pm Cost: $10 per person

Join us for this year’s lecture that will be delivered by Hon Fred Chaney AO. Mr Chaney has extensive community service and in 1997 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for service to the Parliament of Australia and to the Aboriginal Community.
