Summary of Events – DR1980  April 19, 2011- Flooding Begins on Mississippi and Ohio Rivers and Tributaries  April 22, 2011- EF4 tornado in Bridgeton, MO (St. Louis County)  Several hundred homes and businesses damaged including St. Louis airport  1,561 Individual Assistance registrations received  No fatalities reported  April 25, 2011- Branson, MO flooding due to heavy rains  Table Rock Lake and Lake Taneycomo flood submerging numerous homes in 7 to 8 feet of water

Summary of Events cont.  April 26, 2011- Poplar Bluff, MO levee failure  Levee along the Black River fails  1000 people evacuated and 500 homes damaged  May 2 thru 22, 2011- Flood fighting operations well underway  May 2- Bird’s Point/New Madrid Floodway activated  100 homes damaged  130,000 acres of farmland is flooded

Summary of Events cont.  May 20- Morehouse, MO Task Force deployment ordered  Little River Drainage District overwhelmed by heavy rains  90 homes flooded and 200 people displaced  May 22, 2011- An EF5 Tornado strikes Joplin, MO area (Jasper and Newton counties and the city of Duquesne)  May 25, 2011- EF2 tornado in Sedalia, MO (Pettis County)  22 injuries  25 homes with significant damage  Missed the hospital

Joplin Tornado  May 22, 2011- An EF5 Tornado strikes Joplin, MO  22.1 Miles long and up to 1 mile wide  4,380 homes destroyed/major and 3,884 homes minor/affected  162 fatalities and 1,371 injuries (injuries in first 5 days)  560 business/government facilities damaged  Two fire stations  12 Schools  St. John’s Hospital (355 beds)

Coordination & Asset Movement  Pet Sheltering (ESF-11)  APHIS coordination - partnership with ASPCA and city of Joplin Humane Society  Supported the return of 823 pets to their owners  Joplin Adoption Fair –  739 Pets (100 %) were adopted in first day  Other pets were brought from surrounding areas  Over 5000 potential adopters  Organized volunteer effort - Veterinarians, shelter workers, etc.
