2021 Successes in Brief
Welcome to the 2021 Joint Annual Meeting We are pleased to share the success of our efforts on behalf of dairy farmers across the country. Over the past year, NMPF has:
Targeted dairy for climate-smart funding in massive budget reconciliation bill, supporting dairy’s Net Zero goals with potentially billions in assistance and revenue opportunities
Led a successful effort to enact and implement a new, $400 million Dairy Donation Program for cooperatives to provide dairy products to food-insecure households
Secured a boost in USDA’s alfalfa hay calculation in Dairy Margin Coverage and supplemental payments to reflect modest production growth, increasing disaster assistance to farmers
Led dairy’s discussion of Federal Milk Marketing Order reform by convening co-op leaders to craft updates to milk-pricing policies
Took first steps toward remedying Class I mover losses by working with USDA to generate $350 million in Pandemic Market Volatility Assistance Program disaster assistance
Focused agriculture’s effort to preserve stepped-up basis in the tax code, heading off a potential burden on family farms
Called out Canada for violating the spirit of USMCA, prompting dispute settlement with Canada launched by the U.S. government
Cemented dairy’s workforce as essential critical infrastructure and worked with USDA and FDA to secure high priority for food and agriculture workers in COVID-19 vaccination
Secured a federal pledge to halt harmful, fear-creating onsite farm immigration raids
Kept dairy essential to a healthy diet as defined under the final 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
Preserved export flows by combating emerging barriers to trade in key markets such as the EU, Mexico and Colombia
Pressed federal officials to ease severe shipping challenges plaguing dairy exporters
Got back to program timelines with the National Dairy FARM Program, continuing on-farm assistance to producers while moving ahead with program updates
Protected U.S. agriculture by leading dairy-policy messaging leading up to the U.N. Food Systems Summit, heading off attacks on how our farmers feed the world
Put farmers front and center through the Dairy Voice Network, Dairy Trade Envoys and other successful efforts to share dairy’s story.
