Alexis Kowitz
HNS Ambassador
Alexis Alexis Kowitz lives in Mount Vernon, Washington with her husband, two dogs and four chickens. She enjoys Crossfit, running, reading, playing cribbage, meeting new people and spending time with her family and friends. She has lived in Mount Vernon most of her life, leaving briefly during college to travel abroad in Spain. She met her husband, Chris, 6 years ago and has been married 3 of those 6 years. Chris is her best friend and is her perpetual cheerleader; he always reminds her that she can do anything, even when she thinks she can’t. One day she would like to own more land so they can start a hobby farm. Alexis graduated from Western Washington University with a Double Major in Spanish and Political Science. Healthy is the New Skinny is so excited to have Alexis on the HNS Team as an ambassador. Alexis is a kind and beautiful soul, she is always smiling and she is the perfect addition to our team as she believes in the importance of living a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
We want to know why you feel this movement is important and why you want to be a part of the change.
“I believe in Healthy is the New Skinny because healthy comes in all shapes and sizes, not just one. You can be healthy and beautiful no matter what your size or shape.”-Alexis
I think this movement is important because there is an underrepresentation of healthy, fit women of all shapes and sizes in the media. We are bombarded everyday with images of very skinny women with a body type that only a small percentage of people in world are able to obtain. This leaves the majority of the population feeling like they are inadequate and will never be “beautiful” because they will never be able to be as skinny as the media images they see over and over again. I feel like this is especially damaging to young girls. I want to be a part of the change because I (and so many of my friends) struggle every day with accepting themselves and realizing that they are beautiful just the way they are. I have struggled with my weight since I was a very little girl and majority of my life I was considered “heavy”. No matter how hard I worked out and watched my diet I was never going to be a skinny person given my body type. I still struggle to find a happy balance, but I have become more accepting of my curves and have begun to realize that I am beautiful even though I am not and a size zero.
When you think about the word “happiness” what does it look like? The word ”Happiness” looks like a sunny day, sitting in my backyard with my husband and two pugs. If you could go back in time to bring a message to your high school self, what would you tell her and why? I would tell my high school self that you are beautiful, smart and perfect just the way you are. I would tell her this because she thought she was too heavy, she doubted her abilities and she always thought that life would be better if she were skinnier. Do you think change is possible? I do believe change is possible; nothing in this world is permanent. Change may not happen overnight, but it is always possible if you work hard to make it happen.
What makes you laugh so hard you cry?
My little sister and my mom; they both crack me up on a daily basis.
What do you love most about being a girl? Extensive wardrobe options Jď Š When you are alone and left with just your thoughts and dreams, what do you wish for? I wish for self acceptance and a full, healthy, happy life.
What do you want girls to know? There is so much more to life than being skinny, it is not worth your time, energy and stress to obsess over this. Focus your time and energy on activities that make you happy. Last time I checked obsessing about ones weight did not conjure up happy thoughts.
I love the ease at which I am able to make friends with just about anybody. I have quite a few friends and enjoy meeting new people all of the time.
What does being healthy mean to you?  -Being active -Getting enough sleep -Managing stress -Building healthy relationships with family and friends -Building a healthy relationship with food -Eating healthy, local, real food -Having a positive mental outlook on life -Self acceptance  What changes would you like to see for your generation and the next generations to come? There are lots of changes I would like to see made, below are a few general categories: -How we treat our bodies -How we treat each other -How we treat our planet I think that we have lost touch with what is important and what actually makes us (people) happy.
What are you passionate about and why? Why do you feel it is important to find a passion? I am passionate about environmental conservation. We all live on this planet and it is our responsibility to take care of it for ourselves and future generations. I think it is important to find a passion because it gives you something to focus your energy on. Having a passion gives you a reason to be and makes you feel like you are making a difference in the world.
What makes you uniquely beautiful? I think what makes me uniquely beautiful is my awesome hair aka “the glorious mane” and my ability to build relationships/friendships with many different types of people. When I was young I used to hate my hair, I always felt like it was to “big” and to hard to manage. Over the years I have grown to love my hair, it is really my favorite part about my physical appearance; it is thick, long and big…and that’s fine by me. J
“Change, although sometimes hard, can be a good thing.”
What is a fun fact about you? I can speak Spanish (not as good as I once did, but I can definitely hold down a conversation). I am an avid fan of birds of prey(especially burrowing owls). I love trying to identify native plants - I am not an expert by any means, but I am getting better. I love small tattoos. When you are alone and left with just your thoughts and dreams, what do you wish for? I wish for self acceptance and a full, healthy, happy life. What would others not know about you, if they judged you on your appearance alone? They probably wouldn’t know that I am a big fan of historical fiction novels, I can do ten pull-ups in a row and I know how to drive a quad.
Alexis Height- Tall Size- Healthy Weight- Who Cares… What would others not know about you, if they judged you on your appearance alone? They probably wouldn’t know that I am a big fan of historical fiction novels, I can do ten pull-ups in a row and I know how to drive a quad. If you inner beauty sparkled, what color would it be and why? If my inner beauty sparkled it would be GREEN. Green can symbolize hope and growth; I am a very hopeful person and I am always growing in ways I never thought possible.
