Nature Inspires Jewelry & Bridal Accessories Handmade by Naomi

I create nature inspired jewelry and woodland hair accessories. I love working with sterling silver and often incorporate semi-precious gemstones into my hand forged sterling designs as well as a natural hammered affect. I make earrings, necklaces, and wire wrapped rings, many of which are made with brides & outdoor weddings in mind. The woodland wire vine hair crowns are also made with brides in mind. I wore one of these on my wedding day in August 2011. It was so fun, I since started making them for other brides planning nature-themed weddings. Some of my designs still incorporate actual woodland or seaside materials such as the wire wrapped robin’s nest necklace (I
weave tiny strips of birch bark between the copper strands), and box or locket pendants which I cover with thin layers of birch bark and ferns. I create all of my designs with layers in mind – the layers that people wear each day to compose a beautiful but natural expression of who they are or how they feel. Many people don’t think of jewelry or hair accessories as a layer, but a pair of earrings or a ring can add just as much texture as a blouse, and can complete a look.
Naomi Mahala Farr’s jewelry and woodland hair crowns reflect her love of the natural world. She spent her college days hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and has been a glacier guide, naturalist and trail guide in Juneau, Alaska. Though she grew up in a family of visual artists, she credits her love of making jewelry to a metalsmithing and jewelry making class in high school. She will soon complete an MFA in Creative Writing and is editor and founder of Adventum, a literary magazine of outdoor adventure writing, photography, and haiku. She lives in Vermont with her husband and two cats, Luke and Leia.

I make a variety of necklaces, and my inspiration is often sporadic. Some of them are hammered out of sterling silver and in others I might use birch bark, wire, stone, shell, or clay. This is just a small sampling!
