NECCHI FACTORY RENOVATION Data storage as a public facility

06

Author: Ksenia Bisti Supervisor: Riccardo Mazzoni

Data center is a very specific structure, which requires a lot of security for the data stored and a lot of special engineering systems (such as special fire protection, energy and cooling systems). Usually, Data centers are very isolated from the city life and look more like castles than the public centers. But why should we hide all that world of cables and connections behind a huge wall? Why can’t we know where does all that data we search live? Data storage is a sort of library of contemporary world, we just don’t need to go there, we get all the information from thousands kilometers away less than in a second. The main idea of the project is to open up the data storage for the public, keeping the safety in the highest level in the same time, and create a Data district, another city center, which allows people to visit a place they had never been before. An abandoned Necchi factory can perfectly fit the needs of a new generation of data center with its amazing structures and wide scale for the new Data Storage district.rants inside the rotating platform an local food market, boat camping and other facilities on coasts); and in the end Landmark, a place to be. The abandoned Necchi factory has a spirit of the past and inspires a visitor with its amazing structures and wide scale. Closed for public visit nowadays, it could be an important and interesting city district with different functions and purposes. The Data storage as a main function of the complex is a very specific purpose, which requires a lot of security and special fire protection, energy and cooling systems. Usually, Data storages today are very isolated from the public and look more like castles than the public centers. The main idea of the project is to open up the data storage for the public, keeping the safety in the highest level in the same time. The complex has technical spaces (storage itself and engineering services), spaces for workers (offices with secure access) and public spaces (museum, hotel, library, conference halls and auditoriums, restaurants and shops, huge park and train station). Mostly the public spaces are grouped around the main path from the canal to the train station. Mixing of functions makes the visitor of the complex be inside of the data center without really being inside the secure space. Glass walls with high safety features and security systems separates public spaces and server rooms, giving the feeling of being inside the usually hidden behind the walls data center.

LEEUWARDEN 2018

28

Design team: Bisti Ksenia, Valentina Manente Professors: Mark Visser, Elisa Cataneo, Davide Colaci

Working on the strategy for Leeuwarden as a city of Cultural Capital of Europe 2018 we considered the existing water system as the main point of interest and the main connector as well. We decided that cultural capital should be considered not only in terms of city scale, but rather in regional one. The analysis of the report from European Union about the ECOC showed us clearly that the most effective strategy is to involve the entire region around chosen city. That is why the Frisland region was analyzed on a macro scale, in order to find points of interest and attraction and to make them magnets for visitors. Artificial canals are the old and effective system of communication in the Netherlands. The choice of thewater system as the main factor of Cultural capital Event, we analyzed canals as connections of the region: they are subdivided into several types depending on their depth, width and capacity. Using them as main arteries in order to bring people in any place of the province, we consider canals as main connectors. We choose the canal between Leeuwarden and Harlingen-Haven in order to demonstrate our strategy. The canal is big enough in terms of navigating and traveling, so we organized a regular ferry boat with several stops along the canal, bringing people to different parts of the region as cities and also natural and agricultural points of interest. Working on the “FrisianHub”we followed the developed strategy and analysis had been done on the context. Our intervention works on two fronts. First of all, reconnection of the isolated territories, and secondly reaction to the artificial nature of the landscapewith a strong sign that underline the statement. The shape of the “artificial lake” of the Hub is related to those fronts of development and with organization of the rotatingplatform which is technically a moving bridge, gives the connection to the whole area and gives opportunity to people to experiencing the Mienskip by interacting with the locals while visiting the hinterland. Apart of transportation meaning, the Hub has a strong symbolic sign of connector and the landmark in analogy with the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam. By the event of Cultural capital of Europe of 2018 the Hub and public space around it developed as an architectural intervention provides different functions for visitors such as connection and transportation (moving from disconnected sides of canals and organizing a stop of the regular Ferry boat); interchanging point (bike and boat rental centers, bus stop, train station and pedestrian ways); cultural events (exhibition space inside of the device itself, stage to host musical and theatric events); public spaces (site view points, bars and restaurants inside the rotating platform an local food market, boat camping and other facilities on coasts); and in the end Landmark, a place to be.

URBAN SPORT HUB

34

Design team: Bisti Ksenia, Jens Holm Professors: Matteo Poli, Roy Nash, Riccardo Mazzoni

The concept is in creating of interchanging points all around Milan in order to give possibility to people to change different types of transportation and also participate different sport activities without going to special gyms or sport centers. Interchanging is meant to be not just from suburbs to the center and backwards, but the important thing is to provide the opportunity for locals and people who move from one suburban area to another. The sport Hub and alternative transportation interchanging node in Porta Genova is created by specifying different features of existing landscape, defining movements of people through the whole area and giving different functions to each of three sides of given area. Master plan is presented by modulus details which create different atmospheres and facilities in the whole park. They are mixing and working together as a whole system with different density. The main building provides all the facilities like cafĂŠ, shops, bike sharing service and canoe club, changing rooms, showers and lockers, which are designed for people who change the type of transportation at this Hub every day and also for users of skate park, canoe club and yoga center.

SHOWROOM Rolls Royce

44

Design team: Bisti Ksenia, Dmitriy Prokofjev Location: Russia, Saint-Petersburg

Placing the Rolls Royce showroom in the center of the city, moreover in a hotel with such a long history, we wanted to create at least a small intrigue. Visitor moves in the kind of enfilade. Entering from the street, then passing the first, larger room, but with a low ceiling and a simple lack of natural light, and then, passing a small rise, narrowing, and, finally, the visitor is entering a second, smaller room, but with a skylight - and this is the culmination. Ceiling jumps up and opens the sky - lots of light and plenty of space.

52

Institute of Pediatric Endocrinology is the final step of the developing of the Endocrinology Research Center in Moscow. The complex consists of two new buildings - Medical Diagnostic and Subsidiary buildings. Medical-diagnostic building includes a full range of modern medical research institution from radio therapy and maternity to surgery rooms and all necessary laboratories. Since Endocrinology Research Center is a leading research institute of endocrinology in Russia, it needs both - the main medical building and also the methodological center. So the auxiliary building includes a conference room for 400 people, a mini TV studio, a hotel with 40 rooms and other related services.

58

The site where the village is located is the picturesque bank of the river Pakhra, gradually going down to the water’s edge. The structure of the village is a three-part composition. In the center, in the middle of the park area, sports facilities are located; on the left quarter there are blocked dwellings and the right part is designed for individual cottages. All the parts of the village - sports facilities, commercial buildings and row houses united by a single material facades, but painted in their colors.

PRIVATE INTERIOR

62

Author: Bisti Ksenia Location: Italy, Milano, Porta Nuova

Private interior in one of the towers of Porta Nuova was designed according to the client’s preferences and kept the modern style of apartment design. Living room has cold colors and a lot of light coning from the wide windows of the building. Textured stucco of the walls emphasizes dark wooden texture of the library, designed specially for this apartment. Furniture choice was made on Minotti brand, including sofas, coffee table, chairs and armchair. The design of bedrooms was based on warmer colors to create more cozy atmosphere of the private spaces. Different textures and colors of stucco in different rooms makes the apartment more interesting, keeping the same style in the same time.

DANILOVSKIY MARKET Short list of finalists

66

Design team: Bisti Ksenia, Anna Chistopolova, Ivan Moiseenko Location: Russia, Moscow

Creation process of such a major cultural center is important, not only the development of expressive three - dimensional solution, but also the organization of adjoining territory, which is affected by the closeness of the river. The whole complex is raised at the stylobate, which goes directly from roadside pavements with wide alley. Recreation area with a fountain and benches is located a level below, so the flows of people, who go to the show and those, who just enjoy spending time in this area, are separated. The main function of the complex is still a product market, so as the main part of the project there was the system of modular selling tables organized in different ways. Counters are composed by universal cell, which can create diferent variations.

THE NECESSARY PROJECT. RITMO First prize

72

Design team: Bisti Ksenia, Camilla Mori, Diana Ranghetti Location: Italy, Milano, Porta Genova
