As each student processes and retains information differently, the instruction is catered to each student's learning style. This dynamic learning environment is created by blending what is learned from textbooks and research with hands-on, adventure-based learning.

In addition, our outdoor and rescue curriculum are important tools used to develop academic skills such as problem solving, and sequential and abstract thinking. The result is increased academic confidence and success.
Academic Information Students can earn a total of 15 units, while enrolled in a four-week session. Students can earn five units for Physical Education (P.E.), five units for Outdoor First Aid and five units for an academic course. Students may select courses in language arts, mathemat-

ics, social studies, and non-lab sciences. There is some flexibility available in arranging courses. The outdoor and rescue curriculum satisfies P.E. units, while the outdoor first aid curriculum satisfies elective units. Nawa Academy is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and follows the California State Guidelines. Units earned are transferable to other schools, colleges, and universities. Each student works under the direction of the academic instructor to complete the course curriculum. If a student does not complete a subject, a grade is issued for fewer units.

This is a very unique program for those wishing to combine education with outdoor adventure. * The Trinity Challenge is a summer camp tutorial program and offers a limit of five units for P.E.
A Different Way to Earn Physical Education Units - Our Outdoor Education Many of our students have not enjoyed the traditional style of Physical Education (P.E.). Often, due to difficulties with processing and sequential thinking, students feel that they are “put on the spot” by their P.E. coach. At Nawa

"The value of the Lassen program is that a unique combination exists between academics and wilderness adventures. While blending a hands-on approach to learning, the students develop leadership skills, along with a life-long appreciation of nature. This is one of the most commendable summer school programs available." -Jill Mahoney, parent, 2004

social dynamics of mixed genders.
Girls on the Go is designed for girls in grades 7-12 who want to test themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is ideal for students who are generally motivated, demonstrate appropriate behavior, and want to improve their leadership skills. Students who are experiencing academic difficulty and those with learning differences, attention deficit and time management issues may also benefit from our experiential approach. A willingness to learn new skills and expand physical and mental limits is essential. One of the goals of the group is to explore some of the issues and concerns that affect girls in our global community. Courses are taught thematically. For example, students will learn about the contributions that women have made in the student's chosen area of study.

with learning differences, attention deficit and time management issues, and those who need to develop greater social skills, maturity and responsibility. Students who need to make up units, improve study habits, are testing limits in the home, or demonstrating mild impulsive behavior are also well-suited for this program. Students wishing to challenge themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally in a four or eight-week summer experience may benefit from our experiential approach.

"My son’s four-week summer experience gave him a totally different perspective — he is no longer challenging everything. Instead, he accepts his learning difference and is applying himself in the classroom.” Kim Alsop, parent, 2004 “I attended Nawa Academy for two full years, and I had so much fun. an extraordinary summer camping experience for coed youth, ages 10 to 14. students are eligible to earn up to five units for Physical Education (P.E.). Adolescents with low self-esteem, who are lacking in confidence, may be testing limits in the home, or demonstrating mild impulsive behavior and inadequate social skills may be well-suited for this individualized program. The Trinity Challenge provides an opportunity where young people can mature in a fun and challenging camp atmosphere. One parent from Chico, California had this to say,
"Nawa helped my son appreciate what he had, rather than focus on what he didn't. He is more self-assured and self-disciplined."
