COURT HOUSE PROJECT TYPE : Institutional LOCATION : HSR Layout BUILT UP :7500 sqm The brief is to design a civil court complex consisting of 14 civil courts, 1 family court, admin block, lawyer association and ancillary functions. On the other hand they must prevent the escape of suspects and interaction of judges with the general public. As the site is staioned in a residential area it has to remain genial or cordial to the locales.

SITE CONTEXT The site is situated on a large rectangle plot within the area of Hsr layout at BDA which is a residential area which forsees some comercial clusters. The adjacent sides of the site are Whitehouse convention hall and JSS public school. It has two roads one onthe front and other at the backside of the site. The site has an auto stand, bus stop and a Nandini milk parlour in the front. Heavy traffic congestion is spotted at the west side of the site.

The main objective of the building was to create a monumental building which could become easily associated with judiciary power and at the same time which would remain people friendly. The original level of the plot was elevated approximately 1 metre serves as a basis for the new representative building. Five story Civil court building was designed as a three block with facades defined by a vertical rhythm of repeating columns.

Main entrance area was designed as a high corner porch leading to the main entrance. Within the block, two internal courtyards at two different level accesible from the minor road parking lot at the back of the building were provided. A functional arrangement of the court main building corresponds with a security division into zones with varying access levels.

Rooms dedicated to public use such as courtrooms, filing counter, registers were designed as accessible from the open 4 story high main lobby, is also the main circulation space. Office and administrative rooms, covered by an access control system, were designed as connected with main lobby accessible only by an employees. The facade treatment mainly included concrete giving away a brutalist approach and a way to signify strength and order.

C U LT U R A L C E N T R E PROJECT TYPE : Cultural Centre LOCATION : Pondicherry BUILT UP : 8500 sqm To design a Cultural centre for Pondicherry locality which should reflect its pristine culture . It do include five main programmatic elements which comprises of an Art gallery, a Library, workshop, studios and an auditorium. Also to draw parallel between functions and aesthetics to create an unforgettable art space.

SITE CONTEXT The site being a tropical climate is located admist the well planned streets of Pondicherry. Site contributes a rich and varied cultural values housed in an iconic urban connector. The surrounding areas are mainly institutional or residential buildings which are low rise in nature. It follows strict grid pattern. Section shows that cultural divide sits on either side of the canal. The site has roads on all the sides. Zone map

Masterplan
My startpoint was the cultural division of the society which had been reflected geographically. I have considered the fact of division of the land and thus started by allocating three parts of the site into three different functions namely Cultural, Commercial and Cultural. I have taken a central spine for visual connectivity thus providing an idea of what is happening over a spread. I intentionally pushed the educational block activities towards back so that they would be free from hustles and bustles of the everyday routine. A connectivity is provided between education zone and the artist to have an easy access to the cafe during their clock in and out. Cultural and commercial hub are placed on either side of the main road for the tourist to seek an attraction.

Cultural hub comprises of art gallery and an auditorium. The platform on cultural hub has been raised purposefully so as to provide an attraction to the other side which also includes the visual connectivity. The raised platform do have a series of steps. A part outwards thys providing shade underneath. This would be well acclaimed by the localites who could rest during their wait for the public services. The central space created inbetween the educational and commercial hub can be used as a gathering space which inturn also provides the ideal space for bigtime events also provided with a new age seating or resting space on the slopping terrace.

LAKEVIEW RESIDENCE PROJECT TYPE : Residential LOCATION : Harlur lake BUILT UP : 600sqm The brief is to come with an interesting task of creating a story of our own that includes one for ourself and the other for our partner. The challenge was to consider the natural and pictureseque nature of the site that includes the Harlur lake and its natural sloping contours.

SITE CONTEXT The site is stationed in lakedew residency right infront of Harlur Lake surrounded by many residential units accompanied by a green lush patches. It has natural contours which do have a slope of 2.5 m from the highest point. Being a corner site it has roads on two sides. STORY Dad, a businessman and his close friend is an advocate who is a legal advisor of our company. Since they knew each other for years they are planning to build a house where its common space near the lake can be shared by both people.

The house is designed for an automotive cutomiser who wanted a sloped roof with a customised bedroom thus juxtaposing it so that the roof could be open to sky as he is a prolific stargazzer. The dining is positioned in a picturesque cone of vision towards the lake. Every bedrooms are facing towards the lake. On the left side is the dietisian house as they were in need of a private open space the house demanded this part of the site. There is a common central gathering. They demanded a dedicated space where he could meet his clients and patient where in addition the very space could be called for formal living space.

Finally going out with a bang the deck is projected towards the lake which be an ideal place for kyaking.

BANGALORE ONE PROJECT TYPE : Public building LOCATION : Aecs Layout BUILT UP :100sqm The project has its own inviting onsets that the site favours our own selection and to correspond to the precondition of the site. The design grips in articulating a smart system with the intention to provide an interaction between space and the public.

FULL SCALE WORKSHOP PROJECT TYPE : Workshop LOCATION : CMR campus The main idea of the workshop was to experiment a new material and to get used to its properties. This is a part of our semester activities where we all work together in 1:1 scale. The technique which we explored was the cob. The intent is to make a seating under two trees.

COB TECHNIQUE The form is irregular s shaped which is obtained by the following the two trees. The seating has un uniform undelations so that they can lean on and take rest unlike other contemporary seatings. The main motive of this seating space was to create a resting place for the drivers who waits in the parking lot all the day.

SHIGERU BAN Shigeru Ban is a Japanese architect, known for his innovative work with paper, particularly recycled cardboard tubes used to quickly and efficiently house disaster victims.
LIBRARY OF A POET This library was built as an annex to a house I had previously expanded previously expanded and improved. The project was influenced by the Odawara Pavilion, which the owner had seen. He felt that a paper library would be best suited to house paper books. A variation of the paper tube truss used in the East Gate at Odawara was used here. The tubes used in the library were 100mm in diameter and 12mm thick, slightly smaller than those used at Odawara, but similarly, post-tensioned steel wires were used for the spanning sections. Where steel angles were used to form the joints at Odawara, 38 square mm timber pieces were employed for the library. The four floor to ceiling bookshelves along the sides of the room are structurally independent of the paper tubes and are cantilevered off the floor, absorbing the horizontal load. The bookshelves, which contain insulating material and have an exterior finish, were fabricated separately at a factory.
This workshop focused on trying to replicate the master detail of a renowned architect for which we have chose Shigeru Ban who ‘s work is predominantly only with paper. The project had us divided into groups of four. The usage of similar joints in the different parts of the structure was very fascinating. A broad view of the interior shows the elevated block that houses a desk, allowing the owner to sit, in some sense, amidst his book.

The detail we explored is corner joint. The paper tubes we used were also same as 100mm in diameter and 12 mm thick post tensioned steel wires used for the spanning sections and then 38mm square timbers were employed. Then with the information and sketches we created a 3D model in rhinoceros and later we went on to replicate it in 1:1 scale.

PHOTOGRAPHY Photography for me is one of the best way to capture the beauty around us. It breaks routine, makes ordinary things extraordinary by creating different perspective of looking at things. Picture can be a beginning of a story or a dream and it helps me in expressing things in different language.
