Personal Skills
Hey! I’m Nayana currently in the 8th semester of architecture at RV College of Architecture. As a writer and an architecture student, I believe strong ideas arise from strong intent. I have a keen interest in debates, travelling and politics. As a hobby I also enjoy performing poetry. I hope to make spaces that have socially responsible narratives and learn critical thinking through inter disciplinary lenses.

| The Frolic Museum | A factory for small scale manufacturing
R V College of Arcitecture Semester V Year 2020 Site : Area is located on Kanakpura Road, Bangalore p u b l i c | f a c t o r y | i n t e r a c t i v e | p e r s o n a s This project had been an attempt to bring together a series of participatory investigations and architectural exercises to comprehend the co-sentience of everything related to making things. In times like ours, . Small scale businesses and manufacturing entities which involve craftsmen are important players of this ecosystem and this studio set about looking at a premise to look at various ways of making a place for ‘making’.

Project Type : Small scale factory Project Built Up : 4300 sqm
BRIEF A program for a hybridarchitecture to bring together 7 distinct manufacturing processes was defined and proposed in the studio. The studio itself was structured into three stages of developing narratives, defining an object level response and crafting various levels of spatial experiences without losing sight of spatial efficiency in this non-linear process.

Exploring the idea of the factory acting like that of a game of Pinball invented about a century ago. Picking up the nature of “frolic” from the game which is later broken down. This idea of a space that is “fun” reduces the monotinity of the workspace thus bringing joy to everyone who comes in. The shapes are then broken down to make them more adaptable per program. Each program is treated as a seperate entity and the initial approach is to treat them as objects of shapes.

After making different illustrations unique to each program, it was noticed that each of the programs started having distinct charecters of their own. They are then treated as distinct creatures which form large objects in space while keeping in mind the ‘fun’ aspect from the game.

| Mausoleum of Memories | An Urban Lab that allowed for one’s expression
R V College of Arcitecture Semester VI Year 2021 Site : Shrungar shopping centre, M G Road, Bengaluru experimental|expression|underground|people The program is designed around the architectural intentions of a place of/for multiplicity, growth and the site’s inherent memory of being a thoroughfare. The insert is to be the face of the campus and has to reach out to the city with tangible, programmatic and Intangible strategies. It is also a precursor to the architectural elements, organisation and tropes which will be used on the larger site and program as seen in the next project of this portfolio.

Architectural Design
Project Type : An Urban Lab Project Built Up : 1500 sqm
Initial sketches were done that helped trace the different memories of the site. First, the site’s immediate memories were traced by studying the movement patterns of people on both church street and mg road thus the enteries onto the site from both of these roads are quite different from each other.
Next the larger context of the site were studied where buildings were from different times and ages and they all came with particular charecteristics of their own. It was then understood that a lot of these buildings’ histories were erased and culturally appropriated without considering what was then lost during the process. The design thus tries to also educate people with what was lost while also providing them a platform to create newer memories.
Presence of platforms in the site that allow one to narrate their stories for anyone listening. Thus allowing for rememberance of these memories while also creating newer ones through shared experiences. The platform at the highest position allows one to speak out their stories on to the city, also acting as
GROUND FLOOR PLAN This part of the design has multiple walls stood up that are symbolic to tombstones between which are hidden stairs that lead to the tombs below. There are also multiple platforms that allow users to come and voice out anything that they may have to say to the city and its people thus creating new memories along the way
BASEMENT PLAN Underneath the layer of the walls lie the three hidden tombs which have entry and exits at different parts of the site. These also contain galleries and theaters that speak of the cities hidden pasts that have now been washed away.

The idea of the ground meeting the horizon and acting as a diminishing medium, thus letting the user lose one’s self underground.
The walls being more than mere walls and allowing for function between them.
SECTION AA This section showcases the connection between the two roads
The site goes on to create new memories through its daily users while also showcasing what once was burried underneath through the symbolic tombs below. The project looks to make the user lose their way while being encompassed in the site by allowing multiple entry and exit ways to the tombs.

| An Infection | An [un]campus design
R V College of Arcitecture Semester VI Year 2021 Site : Opposite to Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru p e o p l e | p r o t e s t | e x p e r i m e n t a l | c o n t r a s t s There was a conscious delay in tackling the largest of the sites to help crystalise ideas and sharpen strategies. Ideating newer meanings and engagement with and amongst campuses & institutions lies at the crux of this exploration. The culmination of the previous project and the movie led organically to taking a position and developing an architectural framework for the larger program.

Architectural Design
Project Type : An Uncampus Design Project Built Up : 5150 sqm
The project seeks to personify the rebellion in the city to spaces that are infectious to one another. People are who make the city at the city’s core. Thus, the orthogonal rigid spaces which represent the city, are only held together because of the fluid form down below, which otherwise wouldnt have standed a chances. The project questions: PEOPLE VS CITY FLUID VS HETERONORMATIVE HIDDEN VS SEEN DOWN VS UP
This form also gives the notion of decaying or something that is rotten, just like our education system. Thus the fluid spaces will be those where newer ideas can be discussed and education isnt one sided. Use of fluid and pink spaces critique the heteronormative nature of the city with almost no space being queer friendly. Hence, this project seeks to allow anyone and everyone into it.
It was observed that Church Street had a high footfall at most of the times of the day. Although, nobody really stopped to listen to each other as everyone was in a hurry to get somewhere.
Dissent
Most of the building in this area were capitalistic in nature and the only thing that mattered was money.
It was also noticed that this area was a hub for protestors as they mostly needed people to listen. Yet what this place lacked was no one really did stop to listen irrespective of all the backlash. It just got erased the next day.

The emblematic plan on the left showcases how most of the places of access are from the pink spots which symbolise the infection in a city. We understand that without the pink, the design will not be able to sustain itself just like a city. The fluid spaces within this campus are for spaces of public congregation as well as learning. Smaller rooms help discussions take place more fruitfully.

R V College of Arcitecture Semester VII Year 2021 Site : Opposite to Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru f o r e s t | m a c h i n e | o b j e c t s | l u x u r y ES Develin is coming to Bangalore, India for an art residency program sponsored by Netflix. These artist is here to work on the Art in Transit project. She is to inhabit a live-work space for a period of two years as part of a residency program. The space has to transform and be flexible to take into account the different spatial conditions.

Interior Design
Mentors : Pankaj S | Meera Vasudev | Megha Nanaiah Project Type : Small scale factory Project Built Up : 16 sqm
ES Develin’s character was studied to try and understand what kind of space she may need during her stay in Bangalore. It was understood that as a person ES likes to question everything around her and she enjoys monastic luxury. Luxury was further taken as a prompt and borken down. Luxury was then understood in terms of ES’s previous life experiences where her lack of light was studied. ES also had a great love for nature and was environmentally cautious. Thus a space was devised which after two years would blend with its background and degrade into the ground. The space would also be quite open to allow in very good light throughout the day. The space would also fecilitate ES in her ways of working while acting as a machine and moving along with ES as per her requirement of the day.

VISUAL COMFORT ANALYSIS Climostudio was used in accordance to the LEED4.0 rating to analyse the views pertaining to the site. The views also help conncet with the tranquil landscape around the site allowing enough daylight and fresh air.
CFD ANALYSIS THROUGH LOFT, COURT ABD DINING Openings are given in accordance to the wind path diagram generated. The CFD simulations are shown during summer and winter. Usage of passive design strategies such as stack effect showcase the movement of hot and cool air throughout the section of the building.
ANNUAL SIMULATIONS Solar radiation maps are taken in the months specified above. The radiation along the south eastern facade increase to a maximum of 33Wkh. Zones such as living room and bedrooms remain cool throughout the year due to the minimum amount of radiance.
DAYLIGHTING OPTIMIZATION A series of simulations were run on climate studio to arrive at solutions to maximize daylighting while reducing solar gain by alterations building form(mutual shading),building envelope and use of courtyard.

LIVING ROOM VIEW Villa Jardin was designed to have a double heighted living space with the Moon light fixture sitting at its centre.
F1 JEDDAH - ALL ZONES
BED ROOM VIEW The bed room was designed keeping in mind the client’s vision of a rustic space while adding a glow through the various fixtures present
F1 JEDDAH - ZONE G
F1 JEDDAH - ZONE F
During the course of the internship we got the oppurtunity to work with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for whom we designed lighting and landscaping for ‘THE F1 DUNE JEDDAH INTERNATIONAL STREET CIRCUIT’, certain zones of which have been showcased here along with the overall master plan shown to the left.

Styling
THEME : POST ANTHROPOCENE
The idea was to create a creature in the post apocalyptic era whose form arises from organic modularity. In this time humans would grow a shield around themselves which would grow along with them in order to protect them from the other mutated creatures around. The costume was made from thin PVC pipes moulded by hand along with black painted skewer sticks.
THEME : INTERNAL CONFLICTS
This particular costume was designed as a part of a fashion styling competition held by Istituto Marangoni, Italy. Here, the internal conflicts of a public figure was studied where the struggles of fame under the public eye was measured. The designthat arose was a lot more subdued where struggles could mostly be understood only through facial expressions while the outfit was worn to appeal to the public. Although the outfit belonged to the public, one’s desire and expressions can never really be taken away from one’s face.
Poetry PUDDLES
CANVAS
A PART OF ME
about gray-water puddles widening with each rain as the ocean spits, sea-phlegm, filling the toilets of our city.
We will wake into blissful dreams. With fairies crossing narrow seas. Where our souls are painted in shades of gold. And our hearts are sprinkled with magic untold.
Here, amongst the sticky cobwebs Lies a part of me coated in dust. It moves it shakes and yes it haunts Yet to let it out I never trust.
poem of how I’m stranded beneath untrimmed canopies off some street by Basavanagudi poem because this will not be here forever if forever is my lifetime poem that the dogs were once wolves and the dogs will be wolves again when great storms rust all the civilized chains the lawns, forests again the dirt, sand again the puddle, oh-ocean again poem a puddle of my own watery body, all that daily falls out of me the liquid of us continues past what holds it poem about puddles while standing outside in a tropical storm
We will live immortal tales. With unicorns drinking pink cocktails. Where the sand glass takes no time to rest. And confetti bursts out through our zest. Then they’ll notice that we exist. With wings so big yet we submit. They’ll have no more the colors so quaint. The empty canvas was always ours to paint.
I wake cold, still. Blackness peels away from me. There is blueness, always blue, from a window in every memory of this.
SILENCE
It’s a stained painting that aches from over-stimulation and half assed research See: cabarets See: Lebbeus Woods
the silence creeped in, it was harmonic. veins shimmying to every beat of my throbbing blood. the silence crawled out, it was chaotic. eyes screaming at every window that dared to pass. the silence spoke, the silence fought, the silence sang. the silence was also treacherous. teasing almost everyone it laid it’s eyes on. maybe the silence was never mine. who knows? maybe The Silence only belonged to the Lambs.
It’s got a sick soundtrack: Sufi music and bubblegum bitch on loop. It’s a recurring recording of the word ‘psych’ over and over It smells of wet mud, Lifebuoy hand wash, Months old poppins: enough to suffocate a T- Rex.
The walks the treks the funny little texts, You only tear me apart by coming back up. I can’t relive you, you only kill me I want you back but you’d rather not miss me
MORNINGS
MY BRAIN
It struggles too hard for things insignificant See: how to imagine nothing
How do I handle this mighty beast? This beast made of sunset and blues Waterfalls of memories never stop to flow No cuffs big enough to change his course.
