Ground Floor Plan Design process have started with understanding of this small town which was settled through a valley and divided into two parts by the lake. A hundred years old religious habit called “esnaf duası” (worship of artisans) has been conducted every friday which is celebrated by distribution of food to increase their profit from work. There are very unique meals (e.g. keşkek, güveç, oğmaç çorbası, tarhana çorbası) which are is originated from Mudurnu and spread to other cities of Turkey and are likely to be forgotten as they are only cooked by older generations. Therefore aim of the project is to create a dialogue between young and old by transfering the culinary habit of Mudurnu to young genereations.

Ambivert Pavilion Site: Cambridge, ON, Canada Year: 2016 (6th semester) Status: Studio IV, Built (group) Role in the project: Schematic concept design, technical research of wood material, contruction of pavillion, calculations for carbon footprint and photography of the installation Contribution to the project: Concept design, material selection, contruction, calculations for embodied energy Supervision: Elizabeth George (elzb.george@gmail.com), Scott Sorli (scott.sorli@gmail.com), Delnaz Yekrangia (delnaz@alephbau. com), Jahi Nakamura (haji.nakamura@gmail.com)

Collaboration with Mariah Palantzas, Ien Boodan, Joshua Giovinazzo, Sarah Zheng

The Ambivert Pavilion is a user-controlled envelope that can accommodate a myriad of small, social gatherings. With moveable louvres, users can dictate views and access points, subsequently affecting the social condition within the enclosure. A table was added to encourage standing drinking and casual conversation during the expo in which this pavilion debuted. A transluent skin on the aforementioned louvres offers a playful canvas for light and shadows: trees block sunlight and their shadows flurry across the pavilion during the day; moving silhouetted and streams of light that radiate outward invite passersby during the night.
