My name is Nick Beishir and I am currently a fifth year at Drury University. I am in the final semester of receiving my Masters of Architecture from the Hammons School of Architecture with a focus in Sustainability and Technology/ Design Theory. During my studies I have grown to understand Architecture as a tool to not only create spaces that inspire but spaces that will influence people and the environment in a beneficial way. I am also greatly interested in design drawing and illustration, as I see it as one of the greatest design tools. I am currently a registered member with the ASAI and in progress of finishing my thesis on Translative Representationa new approach on representation that produces architecture rather than describing it. My goal after graduation is to develop myself as an Architect and pursue professional licensure with the completion of my IDP hours. This is my design portfolio and features selected works from my undergraduate studies at Drury University. Enjoy!

Librarium: Nominee Fall 2012 The beginning of the semester was introduced with a project that diagramed and expressed how we interpreted the ozark forest. This came to fruition with analyzing the way tree rings grow. From this base point a core program was developed which in turn became the main expression I sought. This expression was control in nature or as Le Corbusier stated ... “A Machine for Living

ALCHEMY TOWER Fall 2012 : marc 520

ATRIUM PERSPECTIVE

Librarium: Nominee Fall 2012 The tower project became an exercise in vertical program, farming, and spatial issues. The concept began from the study of alchemy (combination of baser elements into something new or purer) . The concept of Alchemy allowed program to mix and create a new archetype, which features vertical algae laboratories, research, business and energy production into one vertical vessel or expression.

CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAMS

Through the study of Alchemy which emphasizes and studies the characteristics of elements and how they interact with one another. The tower embraces a chemical reaction between private administration and scientific laboratories for algae production. In this sense a new element of vertical program emerges and takes shape along with the scientific happenings of the algae and energy production the vessel or tower contains. The concept of alchemy is strengthened through it’s energy applications of vertical farming and it’s main hub or the orb, which mimics an algae structure known as a volvox which contains smaller structures that produce their own power. RAINBOW NETWORK HQ Spring 2012 : marc 519

CAMPUS PLAN

03

Librarium: Winner Spring 2012 The Rainbow Network headquarters concept and mission statement from the beginning was to provide the network and the citizens of Managua , Nicaragua a sustainable and educational campus. This would facilitate their well being and provide facilities for the staff of Rainbow Network to work. This was accomplished with the introduction of rain harvesting systems, medical offices,demo-gardens, and passive sustainable systems.

The Vertical penetrations shown in this view, serve multiple purposes and became a conceptual factor in the design. These tubes house four cool air intakes and four heat exhaust fans They also function as light wells bringing indirect light in and signaling to visitors where the; classrooms, dental, and medical spaces are.

Re-purposed steel grain silos are used to create the enclosure of the tubes, which is a big industry in Managua Stationary circular louvers, are used to allow natural air flow while also keeping rain out. A desiccant dehumidifier in each cooling tube provides moisture content removal from 75% to 60% Industrial strength air power the dehumidified air into the mechanical spaces and the earth tubes to be pre cooled before being conditioned, reducing equipment loads passively

Nick Beishir Design Portfolio 2013

Light enters the tube through clear Plexiglas, allowing light to infiltrate deeper into the waiting spaces for patients. A high volume, low velocity fan pulls the hot air from the top of the hallway and out of the building. Air changes, from tempered, conditioned, to natural spaces which culminate into the hallway to be exhausted.

CHAPEL ADDITION

EXISTING PARKING

Saint Agnes Cathedral is an existing church in Springfield, MO . The church no longer served its large communityas it needed room to grow. The church enlisted our help to add an addition of a fellowship area and other support spaces. The Sanctuary and chapel, were realigned to their natural alignments , which in turn allowed circulation to increase.

TRAVEL SKETCHES & Visualizations 2010-2012

In 2011 I was fortunate enough to be able to study abroad for three months in Greece. While in Greece it was a requirement to record the places we went and the things we saw. This time not only let me see a different world but also taught me how to interpret the world around us in a way that is sensible to designers and Architects. For this I am and will be for ever grateful for the skill I will use throughout my career and life.
