Dear Chapter Leaders, NBLSA is proud to partner with the International Book Project (IBP). IBP works mainly in developing countries by providing books and funds in building libraries and promoting literacy by sending over 200,000 books annually to schools, libraries, churches, community organizations and Peace Corps Volunteers throughout the developing world and in the United States. More information on IBP may be found on their website at http://www.intlbookproject.org/ In 2012, NBLSA members donated well over 2,000 books and close to $600 to a school in Zimbabwe that was in need of books. This year, in an effort to promote literacy around the globe, NBLSA will be donating books and raising funds for the International Book Project's (IBP) small shipments to Ghana. The IBP sends small shipments to different schools throughout Africa. These schools need all types of books, from children's library books to university-level books. Any funds collected will be used to ship additional boxes to IBP's partners, at the cost of $70 per box. Each box weighs around 60 pounds and carries 60-120 books. Our 2013 goal is to donate 2500 books and raise $1,000. Books collected should be shipped to IBP between November 5, 2013 and December 4, 2013. Please follow the shipping directions provided by IBP on the NBLSA website. NBLSA will assist with funding for four (4) chapters who have collected books weighing 35 lbs or more. To apply for this funding assistance, please email the following information to Stewanna Miskell, National Director of International Relations at international@nblsa.org by November 15, 2013: Chapter Number of books collected Approximate weight of books collected More information on NBLSA’s partnership with IBP and expectations of chapters’ participation in the book drive may be found at http://www.nblsa.org/ internationalbookdrive/
