PERFORMINGART THEAT Drury University is a liberal arts University in Springfield, Missouri located near Downtown Springfield, North of Chestnut Expressway. Currently, Drury University’s performing arts are sharing a building with the Breech School of Business. The proposed site for the new Performing Arts Center is located on the south side of the campus where currently there is as parking lot North of the Hammons School of Architecture and South of Breech School of Business. The program of the proprosed Performing Arts Center will not only act as an educational facility for the performing arts but also have the potential to be put on traveling shows for the public. The architecture should be a monument in the community that can easily be distiguished from the rest of the campus because of its multi-purpose use between public and education. The design allows for the use of public and private sectors by providing classroom space hidden above the checkout. A “black box” theater is located below grade along with the passanger drop off and some additional parking for smaller performances. A huge interior lobby provides a space for students to relax between courses. There is also ample green space outdoors for an outdoor production with theater style seating on a hill next to the theater.

Springfield, Missouri is looking to build a new library in a small community in the southwest side of the growing city. With the ever changing way that information is presented with new technology, the proposed library was to be thought of differently than just shelves and books. The library has become a new place of relaxation like coffee houses. Like building blocks, the spaces of the proposed library is defined by exterior. The open floor plan creates an environment that caters to patrons of all ages, giving ample opportunities to find a nook to read, or surf the web. The kids section is divided by the main circulation desk so that adults wanting some quiet will be seperated. The deck above the main level is an extention of the site. During the summer months the outdoor deck can serve as an after hours hang out while still having the rest of the library closed to the public. The view from the deck frames the trees across the way to almost give the sense of being out of the city.

The 2015 World Expo will be held in Mestre, Italy on a brown-field site located near the coast. With low rise building to the East, the canal and views to Venice become important in the design. Certain aspects of the design was given and the hotel and convention center was commissioned to the studio for further ideas. Water fronts become an important part of the design as to incorporate what makes Italy unique. In the design process, the architecture engages the water in a different way and rises out of the site to provide views to patrons when at the hotel/convention center. Patrons are greeted with a large foyer when entering the main building to the south of the site. The foyer has different grades to indicate different uses as far as hotel and convention center yet very open to create a gallery type space for art and other expositions. In the main hotel, guest can walk through a major hall that is designed with intent to peak interest as they make their way to the luxury restaurant that has direct views to Venice. Directly below the hotel is a glass enclosure for an outdoor experience that is 2 meters below grade, that has the comforts of an interior space. This space can be used as a conference room or a small cafe/bar by night for a more unique experience.

The louvers regulate solar radiation on the facade during the summer months yet allow heat gain during the winter. The idea is that each room along the exterior will have it’s own parameters to suite each patrons desires, while on the outside the facade ever changes like ripples in the water.
The advantages of a green roof system will help to insulate the roof, provide an open terrace for public views to Venice, and collect water for uses such as toilets and sprinkler systems.
