Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is dedicated to fostering a complementary relationship between intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Consisting of 10 academically selective colleges and universities in Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania — Allegheny College, Denison University, DePauw University, Hiram College, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wabash College, Wittenberg University, The College of Wooster, along with affiliate member Earlham College — the NCAC believes that high-level athletic programs need not be sacrificed in order to meet rigid academic standards. Significantly, all 10 NCAC institutions have been granted chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, the preeminent honor society for colleges and universities. Only 280 of the more than 3,000 four-year institutions in the United States have been so honored. A member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division III, the NCAC features championship competition in 23 sports — 11 for men and 12 for women. The 12 women’s sports are among the most offered by any Division III conference, and the equality in number and emphasis between men’s and women’s athletics is just one of the elements that sets the North Coast apart.
Cody Buresh, Wabash

The goals of the conference express the best aspirations of American amateur athletics. The NCAC brings together a group of institutions which share a common allegiance to academic
quality and to the conduct of athletics so as to support the educational purpose. Intercollegiate athletics can and should complement academic life, rather than compete with it, and sports should enhance the experience of students during their college years. This type of academic and athletic commitment has been led by the 10 school presidents, who have taken an active role in the governance of the conference.
Molly Chapman, Denison
Fifty-nine teams from all 23 North Coast sports and nine of the 10 members competed in the NCAA post-season during the 2013-14 academic year. The NCAC added another NCAA Division III swimming championship as Kenyon claimed the men’s title for the 33rd time in program history. Conference members have accumulated 67 national championships since the league was formed in February of 1983. In the 2013-14 academic year, 223 All-America or Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America certificates were distributed to student-athletes from North Coast schools. The NCAC’s commitment to equity, its broad base of athletic programs, and an unwavering insistence on excellence in academics has served as a model for conferences throughout the country. The North Coast has shown not only that these ideals can coexist, but that they can flourish. The NCAC continues as a pace-setter in the 21st century.

ALLEGHENY SELECTED AS PRESEASON FAVORITE AS NCAC PREPARES FOR 31ST WOMEN’S SOCCER SEASON Coming off a season in which the NCAC crowned its first-ever women’s soccer tri-champions, Allegheny narrowly emerged as the preseason favorite in balloting by North Coast Athletic Conference coaches in the 2014 preseason poll. The Gators earned five of nine possible first-place votes cast by league coaches to top the poll with 73 total points. Allegheny is coming off its seventh conference title, first-ever NCAC Tournament championship and second NCAA Tournament appearance in the past four years. Wittenberg, coming off of a share of its second-straight conference title, earned two first-place votes and finished six points behind Allegheny in the poll with 67 points. Denison, which was the final piece of the 2013 tri-champions, claimed the final two first-place votes and finished third with 66 points. DePauw and Wooster shared the fourth position with 50 points each to round out the top-five. Kenyon was predicted to finish sixth with 39 points and Ohio Wesleyan checked in at seventh with 29 points. Hiram totaled 21 points to finish eighth in the poll, followed by Oberlin in ninth with 10 total points. Allegheny will once again enter competition this fall under the direction of head coach Michael Webber. In nine seasons at the helm of the Gators women’s soccer program, Webber has posted a record of 90-56-21 (.602), including two NCAC championships, an NCAC tournament championship and two appearances in the NCAA Div. III Tournament. The Gators return three of their top five scorers from a year ago, led by 2013 NCAC Newcomer of the Year Jessie Thiessen (Pittsburgh, PA/ Fox Chapel). Thiessen led the league in goals (11), points (28) and points per game (1.33) in her rookie campaign. Allegheny also welcomes back All-Conference junior defender Lauren Miller (Harrison City, PA/Penn-Trafford) and senior netminder Gabby Curtis (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) to bolster the defensive unit that lead the league with 10 shutouts last season.
