Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is dedicated to fostering a complementary relationship between intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Consisting of 10 academically selective colleges and universities in Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania — Allegheny College, Denison University, DePauw University, Hiram College, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wabash College, Wittenberg University, The College of Wooster, along with affiliate member Earlham College — the NCAC believes that high-level athletic programs need not be sacrificed in order to meet rigid academic standards.
Intercollegiate athletics can and should complement academic life, rather than compete with it, and sports should enhance the experience of students during their college years. This type of academic and athletic commitment has been led by the 10 school presidents, who have taken an active role Significantly, all 10 NCAC institutions have been granted in the governance of the chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, the preeminent honor society conference. for colleges and universities. KENYON NABS TOP SPOT IN 2018 NCAC MEN’S SOCCER PRESEASON COACHES’ POLL CLEVELAND, Ohio – The North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) released its 2018 Men’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll and Kenyon was tabbed as the favorite. The Lords collected six first-place votes and 96 points after claiming the NCAC regular-season title (9-0-0) and advancing into the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament a season ago. Ohio Wesleyan was selected second with 94 points and four first-place votes. The Bishops claimed the NCAC Tournament Championship last season after knocking off Kenyon in penalty kicks to make an NCAA-record 40th Division III Tournament appearance in 2017. Denison was tabbed third in the poll with 72 points, while Wabash (65 pts) and DePauw (58) rounded out the top five. Oberlin checked in at sixth with 56 points while Allegheny earned seventh, compiling 33 points. Hiram (31), Wooster (30) and Wittenberg (16) rounded out the 10-team field. Kenyon enters the 2018 season under the direction of head coach Chris Brown. In 13 seasons at the helm, Brown has the most wins in program history with a 166-64-29 overall record and has led the Lords to six NCAA Tournament appearances. Kenyon returns NCAC Midfielder of the Year, Alberto Carmona, and All-NCAC first-team defender, Bret Lowry. Carmona and Lowry were part of a defense that gave up a conference-low 13 goals in 22 matches last season. The 2018 NCAC men’s soccer season begins on Aug. 31, with several teams competing in early season tournaments across the country. The first conference action of the season is scheduled for Sept. 21. Founded in 1983, the North Coast Athletic Conference is made up of ten academically selective colleges and universities Allegheny College, Denison University, DePauw University, Hiram College, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, Wabash College, Wittenberg University and the College of Wooster, along with affiliate member, Earlham College (field hockey).
