Top 5 Projects That Didn’t Happen HSR between São Paulo and Rio The 400km HSR line between Brazil’s two most important economic centers has failed 4 times to attract bidders. Given the tighter fiscal climate in 2015, there are no formal plans to revive the project intended to be completed for the World Cup and Rio 2016.
Electricity interconnection project between Panama and Colombia
Yucatan Peninsula
Talks were in 2012 underway for a major transmission line project linking the Colombian and Panamanian electricity grid, but Panama’s government pulled out of talks due to the large price tag of $500 million. In 2014, restarted project preparations setting June 2016 as the new deadline for project documents.
In January of 2015, Mexico’s announced spending cuts due to falling oil revenues - among those cuts were the long studied Yucatan Peninsula passenger train project.
`
HSR between Mexico City and Queretaro
In November of 2014, a Chinese led consortium led by China Railway won a bid to build a 150mile $4.3 billion high speed rail line. Due to complaints from major HSR firms that the bidding process was rushed, the project was put on hold indefinitely.
Bolivia’s InterOceanic Railway Five attempts to bring Bolivia’s two separate railways to Chile and Brazil have proved fruitless over the past four decades. This year, Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia will try this tremendous project again, while trying to answer serious questions about feasibility and bankability.
