Marys

EVENT OVERVIEW Marysville Stages was an event comprised of three sections – VRC, VCRS and Standard Car Class. Each of these followed a different program using the same stages in different orders with all bu the VRC to run over three stages at night and using navigation instead of route charts. The weather was not kind and the night before the event there was solid rain which then persisted throughout the day and night to at least some extent. This resulted in wet and slippery roads to be further compounded by fog – some of which was quite heavy.

Stage 1 for the VRC (SS3 for VCRS) took crews from very near the start, over an 11km stage, followed by a lengthy liaison to Big Creek Camp to a refuel then onto SS2. SS2 (SS1 for VCRS) used the legendary Eildon-Warby Rd over 26 km of demanding stage to finish on Snobs Creek Rd. Despite having a magic run over the first 10 km, the route changed after the early crews had churned it up quite a bit and for 11 km this became very slippery. Due to this when the stage was run a second time for the VRC (SS6) only it was downgraded with safety concerns. SS3 (SS2 for VCRS) brought crews south in pretty much as straight a line as possible to finish at Cambarville. This stage was consistently damp and had around 5 km of lesser road which has not been used for ages. This became SS7 for the second pass for the VRC. Crews then liaised back to Marysville for servicing.. SS4 and SS5 were old favourites near Marysville. The first was Grantons Rd, a short 4 km blast over very quick roads. The second was up the hill and down again back to Marysville over 21km. This stage climbed into fog which made commitment very hard for the drivers. After a lengthy break for night to fall – properly dark it was – VCRS crews then went out and did SS1, SS5 and SS4 in reverse – or at least that was the plan. Heavy fog throughout the reverse of SS1 caused its cancellation so crews were left with two night stages only – 21 km up the hill and down again, then 4 km of Grantons reversed. 4

VCRS There was a reduced number of crews able to compete in this event, but those left did a terrific job once again to really place NCCA in a good position for the Champion Club this year. Steve Porter and Tony Robinson again headed the NCCA attack. They managed times in the top three over the whole event and finished 2nd outright. They are consistently returning top results – well done. Steve and Tony were also first in Class D for over 2000cc 2WD (they must be leading this class), and first Grade C driver. Second home for NCCA was Rhiannon Philpot-Hale who was with Shannon Seabrook, a PAC member (have to change that Shannon, where are your family loyalties?). They had times consistently in the top 8-10 and finished at 6th outright. Shannon and Rhiannon also won Class E – the 4WD class. Aaron van Winden with Jesse Stirland were next finishing 7th outright and consistently getting stage placings around 7 to 10. This crew has made a great step up this year and are reliable performers. This was also placing them at 2nd Grade D driver. David Lawrance and Aidan O’Halloran - next for NCCA and last VCRS point getters were close behind Aaron and Jesse. They were also 3rd Grade C driver. Always reliable and consistent. That’s 3 point scorers in the top ten finishers – enough to get another good boost to the Club’s championship scores. Other NCCA crews in the event were: Non NCCA member Tobie Mordue with NCCA navigator Aaron Mordue, who finished 11th outright. Russell Seabrook with Cary Seabrook who give us another story. This crew was running 5th outright before the final, short stage but did not write down an “Information” and lost 30 minutes as a result. Cary has not said why they missed this, “impossible not to see” board. Might Russell find a better Navigator for the next event? Despite this they still finished 1st Grade E driver.

Marysville Cont.

Tim Smith had entered but withdrew at the last moment due to a Covid stricken Nav.Tim’s return to rallying has been frustrating for him at this stage. VRC NCCA entries in this part of the event were few. Finishers were: Michaela Jarvie co-driving for Anthony Lahiff finished 23rd. Shane and Liam Ahchow were 30th in their Commodore. Alan Friend with Michelle Canning did not finish but were running around 10th outright, leading the Club Rally Car class and 3rd or 4th 2WD before retiring. Don’t know the reason for their retirement. Don’t forget about the Fast Track Towing and Transport Nissan Nightmoves on June 18th out of Heathcote. This is our own club’s event and will be the best VCRS event for the year. It always is. 7 stages totalling 160 km – none the same as last year – retaining the features of the event which have made it popular over time. All stages route charted. Kim has still managed to give you some challenges. Base is at the Heathcote Showgrounds this year (not Barrak Reserve – this was not available this year). Enter and make it a good one for the club again. Already we have some top interstate entries as well as strong Victorians to keep them honest. Get your entry in NOW so that you don’t miss out as entries are filling fast. April 2022

Moonlight Meander Another great event for NCCA! Quick report from the preliminary results so they’re not even provisional. NCCA crews all finished and together provided the club with a great haul of points for the VCRS Series championship. STEVE PORTER / TONY ROBINSON 1st Outright Makes their championship chase very interesting. Rowan Woollard / Andrew Daniell 2nd Outright Good to see you again Rowan (and Andrew of course) Paul Mahony / Simon Thompson 4th Outright Great to see these two back and doing so well. RUSSELL and CARY SEABROOK Very consistent year.

6th Outright

Tobie and Aaron Mordue Excellent result in the Commodore.

11th Outright

Mark Watson / John Marson 15th Outright Looks like they had some trouble on SS1? Stuart Stevenson / Daniel Stevenson Same consistent performers.

17th Outright

Tim Smith / Heath Lenne 19th Outright Got to the finish this time. Great to see. One crew didn’t make the start. Aiden Peart was a victim of Rona and had to withdraw. Chin up mate, you’ll get another chance soon. Hope you’re not feeling too crook. Nightmoves is now under three weeks away so we’re looking for all your entries!

ELL, HERE WE are half way through the year already! Where does the time go?

It was great to finally get together and see everyone at the MGM last month. I hope that our new members enjoyed themselves. It would be great to see more people at the next meeting.

I heard that the Cruise day was well received by members and a good time was had by all. There’s another one in the works too! Our next big event is the Nissan Nightmoves. This event is always well supported by members and I am sure it will be again this year. Let’s hope that it’s not too wet out there for everyone. If you would like to help out then let Denise know, her details are in the Supplementary Regs which are available online. I have made an executive decision with regards to the “Raffle” held at Club nights. As the last 2 years have been so disruptive to us all, I have decided that there will be no raffle at the MGM’s this year. Instead, EVERYONE who attends the MGM will automatically be put into the draw for the “Special Effort Raffle” that is drawn at the Presentation Night. BUT you have to be at the Presentation Night to win. Our next meeting will be held on the 8th July and will also be our Annual General Meeting. So, if you would like to give back/bring something new to the Club, think about standing for the Committee. We are always happy to have new or experienced people on the Committee. Think about it, and let us know! - Vicki Curry, Secretary.

Well another month passes and the guard has changed. Life goes on. Good luck to Kim and her crew to bring on another very good Nissan Nightmoves, looking forward to seeing how it all goes! I have just received a fuel tank for my SSS in very good condition I may add, so the resto

Congratulations to everyone who competed in the Moonlight Meander, and congratulations to Steve Porter and Tony Robinson for the win! Great work.We have our major Annual General Meeting coming up in July, time to think about committee positions that you may like to participate in. See you at that meet- Gordon Ledwidge, Treasurer.

EY GUYS!

The NCCA kharnacross has been run and won. At the time of writing I’m not sure of the results but I’m pretty sure all of our competing members finished in the top ten. The were 10 competitors, with 3 from NCCA (Stu in the rear wheel drive Subaru and Jarvis and I in the mighty SSS Pulsar). Our opponents were in a variety of vehicles with a Mini or WRX probably taking out the event. Special thanks must be given to Stu Lea Abbi and Nick who ran a fantastic casual event. Hopefully you guys will come play at our next event on the black stuff on June 26 - Lucas Thorpe, Motorkhana.

I ALL,

Not much for you this month, keep the articles coming and thanks to Trevor for his amazing Rally reports. Looking forward to Nightmoves!

As an aside, unfortunately working 2 jobs is seeing my spare time rapidly dwindle, so I’m in a position where I won’t be able to stand for editor at the AGM, so if you’re keen to step up to the plate, let me know! - Mason Peart, Editor.

I ALL,

Memberships are going well, with the membership number continuing to hold around 345. We are hoping to hold another club cruise, this time out to Arthurs Seat, so keep an eye on your emails for more information.

This month NCCA is running the Nightmoves rally out of Heathcote. Go to the website and register for a road closure, consider it your own private spectator point! That’s it from me!- Aiden Peart, Membership / CH Plate Officer. Member Name
