About Us Digi is brought to you by NCC Education. Originally part of the National Computing Centre, NCC Education was established as a computing initiative by the British Government in 1966. Today, NCC Education is an exam board and a global provider of British education in Computing and Business. Our head office is situated in Manchester, UK with our regional offices located in Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Cape Town. Working with an international network of schools, centres and universities, NCC Education provides students with access to high quality British education through a combination of classroom based and distance learning programmes. Digi is a suite of primary and secondary school Computing programmes developed by NCC Education and launched in 2017. Our mission with Digi is to assist schools in their delivery of the English National Computing Curriculum at Key Stages 1-4.

Key Stages of Digi All resources are provided for students and teachers to cover the English National Computing Curriculum with complete confidence. Each Digi Teacher and Student book comprises of 30 lessons. Formal assessments and qualification certificates provide evidence and a global benchmark for student performance. Once a student book is completed, learners are provided with a certificate of completion. The equivalent of an International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is obtained with the Digi Level 2 Award. This is the final fourth key stage of the curriculum. YEAR

Key Stage 1 • understand what algorithms are, how they are implemented as programs on digital devices • create and debug simple programs use logical reasoning to predict the behaviour of simple programs • use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve content • recognise common uses of information technology beyond school • use technology safely and respectfully Key Stage 2 • design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals • use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs • use logical reasoning to explain how some simple algorithms work • understand computer networks • use search technologies effectively • use and combine a variety of software on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs and systems • use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly

To draw a shape using a paint program you need to find the shapes in the toolbar. Then click on the shape you want to use and drag it to the drawing area, or click to draw it in the drawing area.
You can change the colour of your outline and fill your shape with colour using the colour palette.

Guidance notes for teachers ACTIVITY 1 This activity can be completed using the paint program of your choice or that you are most comfortable demonstrating with students. Suggestions include MS Paint, Sketchpad for Chrome/Chromebooks (https://sketch.io/ sketchpad/) or Paint.NET (http://www.dotpdn. com/downloads/pdn.html), although any suitable alternative paint program may be used.

You may choose to demonstrate to students how to select a shape, drag it to the drawing area and use the fill, outline and colour palette functions. Show the class how to draw straight
When the students have drawn and filled all the shapes correctly (or had sufficient practice), encourage them to create their own shape. You may ask the more confident students to use a range of brush and outline styles.
Allow students time to try to copy the pictures in the student booklet, drawing and filling shapes with the correct colours. Some students may require help with shaping which is drawn using curved lines.

Activity 1 Writing code can be great fun. You can even create your own computer games! We are going to use a programming environment called Scratch. The little cat you see is called a Sprite. We are going to use these buttons to make the sprite move, use speech bubbles and say meow. This is called the script area.

Drag a start command into the scripts area. Click on the Looks button. There are two ‘say’ commands - one says say Hello! for 2 secs, the other just says say Hello! Drag say Hello! into the scripts area. Click on the white box and change the text to Hello World! Click on the Sound button and drag the play sound meow until done command into the scripts area. Finally, select the Control button and drag stop all into the scripts area. Make sure the commands are linked together. Well done! You have programmed the sprite! Click on the green flag and watch the sprite perform.
