Welcome to the 24th Annual North Coast Open Studios!
Weekend 1 is June 1-2 and Weekend 2 is June 8-9 Studios are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, unless otherwise noted.
Join us this year for North Coast Open Studios Art Night, Friday, May 31, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A listing of participating artists and Art Night-specific maps are on pages 4-5.
North Coast Open Studios is an annual showcase of local artists and their art in Humboldt County. Included in this guide, you will find listings for artists who are opening their studios (their “natural habitats,” if you will) to the public, allowing art lovers a glimpse into the creative process.
Visitors to North Coast Open Studios will have an opportunity to see what happens inside an artist’s creative space. Meet the artists and see work from a wide array of art styles, including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, glass, fiber, jewelry, ceramics, and more. During this free showcase for the arts, visit mid-career and emerging artists in traditional and non-traditional spaces. Talk to artists about their creative process, see their recent works, and purchase art.

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE
The artist listings are arranged alphabetically by community, listed regionally from North to South. Browse through to discover the artists you wish to visit. Check the maps, shown with each community listing, to find studios based on location. Looking for a specific artist? Check the Alphabetical index on page 38.
Each artist listing has general information about the artist, including an image of their work, the type of artwork they create, art categories (for the Visitor BINGO game on page 7), directions to their studio, contact information, and which weekend (or weekends) they will be open. Artist listings also tell you whether or not the studio is wheelchair accessible (wheelchair logo) and if the artist is new to the event (this will be handy for the Visitor BINGO game).
As we all continue to find our “new normal,” some artists may require a mask in their studio – please be respectful of the artists’ wishes in their creative spaces.
At the end of the artist listings is a special section of artists who will not be open during either Open Studios weekend, but are open by appointment only, year-round. Also, if you can’t visit an artist during their open weekend, keep in mind that many artists enjoy visitors, and most will open their studios by appointment throughout the year.
However you plan your visit to North Coast Open Studios, you will find a dazzling display of fine arts and crafts to fit all styles and budgets. Get to know your local artists and enjoy the amazing variety of art Humboldt County has to o er!
North Coast Open Studios is a free event, so there is no admission charged at any venue.
North Coast Open Studios is a DreamMaker project of the Ink People Center for the Arts, and is supported by Humboldt County artists, businesses, and community members like you. NCOS would not be possible without the generous support of many people.
First and foremost, thank you to the artists who start responding to my registration emails as soon as the link goes live. Decades long participants and folks who are new to the event hold the same amount of space in my heart. Y’all are what I love about this event.
Thank you to my partner, Robot Adams (and by extension, his best friend Heather), who chooses the best working soundtracks, drags me out of the house for good weather breaks as needed, and feeds me snacks and hydration before I realize I need them. And my kiddo, Alton, who wants to know why I still haven’t added a question about studio pets to the registration form.
Thank you to Holly Harvey, our Guidebook Layout Goddess at the North Coast Journal, who makes this guidebook look great, as well as providing moral support when my to-do list looks a lot like a hundred-foot wall. And huge thanks to Barb and the crew at the 101 Things Publication who created most of the maps we have used for decades.
Thank you to my Ink People coworkers, Executive Director Leslie Castellano and Administrative Assistant Sage Juarez, my in-house support system, who share my excitement about participating artists and sponsors.
Thanks so much to the volunteers who helped wrangle the May Art Show and Arts Alive reception, as well as my co-worker Kay Lopez, who helped spread the word about the event. And to the Ink People’s Gallery Director, Katie Uber, for creating the Art Show and Reception poster and taking a lot of the nitpicky show details o my plate, this

year. Also, the Humboldt County Visitors Bureau, with which the Ink People’s Brenda Tuxford Gallery shares a space at 422 1st Street. Jules Benbow and other Visitors Bureau sta , your patience and kindness does not go without notice.
Thank you, Laura Keenados, a lifelong friend and NCOS participating artist, who’s been working to get a creative NCOS-related idea out of my brain and into reality – I can’t wait to show it o .
Finally, but certainly not least, thank you to our event sponsors! With everrising costs, y’all keep this event afloat and we appreciate you so much. This event couldn’t happen without all of you!
—Monica Topping Coordinator & Participating Artist, North Coast Open Studios

North Coast Open Studios
First Friday Art Night
May 31st, 6 to 9 p.m.
North Coast Open Studios presents our annual Art Night, kicking o the two weekend event with an evening of Open Studios, the night before the main event starts – a soft opening, if you will.
We understand that some folks work over the weekend, or have other engagements… or maybe just want time to see more art — NCOS Art Night is for you!
Here is a geographic listing of all of the participating artists, who are planning to open for this special Friday evening event. Next to their names, their listing number will tell you which location is theirs on the Friday Art Night maps. Further into
the guidebook, you’ll find listings for each of these artists (alphabetically, by region), with a description of the artist’s work, address, directions to their studio (if needed), contact information, and a representative image of their work.
Please keep in mind that not every NCOS participating artist has chosen to open for the Art Night. The artists who will be open are in this section of the guidebook.
Don’t forget to get acquainted with your 2024 NCOS BINGO game (on page 7), for a chance to win a gift certificate from one of our sponsors.

The North Coast Open Studios steering committee is comprised of working artists and community members dedicated to opening doors to artists in our community. The committee helps wrangle event sponsors and volunteers, as well as spreading the word about the annual event throughout the community.
Leslie Castellano
Leslie Castellano is the Executive Director of the Ink People Center for Arts and Culture. Leslie is also a city councilperson, working artist, aerial dance instructor, and community organizer. Leslie works to create opportunities to deepen community wellbeing through art and culture, supporting and developing emerging social practices and a wide range of creative endeavors. She has a deep appreciation for the roles that artists and cultural practitioners play in a vibrant and healthy community.
Leslie stands in front of a wall of participating artist Patricia Sennott's art.
Monica Topping
Monica Topping took over coordination of North Coast Open Studios in 2014. She brings a wealth of event planning knowledge from her time on the Kinetic Universe board of directors, and networking contacts from more than 15 years of working in local media. She LIKE likes Eureka and joined the Eureka Art and Culture Commission in 2016. She won the Victor Thomas Jacoby Award in 2016, and started melting recycled glass bottles and broken glassware into lovely colored beads in 2017, then was chosen Eureka’s Artist of the Year for 2020, for creating jewelry out of recycled and repurposed materials under the name Rock Chick Designs. She’s also the Administrative Director for the Ink People Center for Arts and Culture. Monica can’t think of a better job than being a cheerleader for Humboldt County artists.
