2006 Líderes Summit National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Call for Workshop Proposals The Center for Emerging Latino Leadership of the National Council of La Raza invites proposal submissions for youth­focused workshops at the upcoming Líderes Summit, a component of the NCLR Annual Conference. The Summit will be held in Los Angeles, California July 7­11, 2006. The Líderes Summit brings together more than 350 students, youth leaders, and activists from community­based programs and campus­based organizations throughout the country. The program is open to all young people ages 14­25. Participants develop leadership and teamwork skills, share their experiences, explore ideas for community involvement and empowerment, and discuss issues that face the Latino community. Summit participants build networking and mentorship skills and take part in the entire NCLR Annual Conference, which is attended by more than 20,000 people. There is more information on the Líderes Summit and Annual Conference at http://lideres.nclr.org. Selected presenters will conduct workshops at the Líderes Summit on Friday, July 7. A small number of workshops may be held on the morning of Saturday, July 8. Each workshop is attended by roughly 50 youth. Workshop presenters will receive up to three (3) complimentary full Líderes Summit registrations for youth or up to two (2) for adults. Presenters are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses, and registration fees for any additional presenters. Preference will be given to proposals from NCLR Affiliate organizations and groups who will attend the entire Líderes Summit. Multiple workshop proposals may be submitted. There is no fee for workshops presented by Líderes Network member groups.1 Proposals submitted by corporations (for­profit entities), government agencies, and other nonprofit organizations will be assessed a workshop fee if selected. All workshops must: • Be one hour in length • Be presented by youth or youth in conjunction with adults • Have an interactive format that includes audience participation/discussion • Address a topic that is pertinent to youth Successful sessions should: • Contain clearly stated, practical learning objectives • Provide reference materials or other handouts to participants • Be fun and informative Workshop proposals may address any subject affecting Latino youth.
