PROJECT UPDATE: THE WAR IN UKRAINE

Your Impact: Safety and Support During Tragedy

Two years have passed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. In that time, countless people crossed the border to seek safety and security in other countries. While some have been able to flee, others have needed to stay.

Nazarene Compassionate Ministries has been sending containers of food and much-needed emergency supplies to Ukrainians experiencing food and housing insecurity. Churches in different parts of Eurasia and USA/Canada have sent supplies and crates with everything from clothes to crisis care kits and soup packages. Many churches in the countries surrounding Ukraine have provided care for people who have been forced from their homes, helping them to recover from trauma, find safety and security, and make plans for their future. The Church of the Nazarene and NCM will continue to respond and care for those whose lives have been disrupted by the war in Ukraine.

Even with unimaginable disruption and devastation to their home country, churches in Ukraine continue to serve and worship faithfully.

Resilient Hope in Ukraine

In Ukraine, six churches continue to respond to the needs of their communities using 30% of the funds raised.

With the support of 26% of the funds raised, food and other vital supplies are being delivered where they are needed most.

Nazarene churches in nine countries care for Ukrainian refugees, with 32% of funds raised.

The final 12% of funds raised has gone towards important work such as trauma relief for pastors and winter survival supplies.

Shortly after the initial invasion, churches began to respond in Ukraine to meet the immediate needs of people experiencing the effects of the war. Three of the churches have served as shelters during the conflict, providing a safe space for individuals and families who had nowhere to turn when bombings occurred in their cities. Through your support, Ukrainian churches continue ministering in their communities and reach even more people. Over the last two years, churches have received new members, baptized people, held summer Bible camps for more than 1,500 children, started a Bible study for Ukrainian soldiers, and held a youth camp for more than 150 young people. Because of the continuous response and work of the church in Ukraine, the church volunteers were able to respond quickly when a bomb fell in the square in Odesa and blew the windows out of a Nazarene church building. The church in Ukraine remains faithful to the mission of the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations. In spite of war, in spite of crisis, and in spite of high emigration, pastors and church members continue to demonstrate the Light of the World in one of the darkest places.
