We are delighted that you are interested in New College Keighley, an academic sixth form college that will be based in the centre of Keighley. If our application is successful, we hope to open the college in September 2024. The college will have around 1000 students when it is full.
A sixth form college is an academic, youngadult environment for students aged 16 to 19, offering a very wide range of A level and A level equivalent courses. Our provision is designed to support young people to progress to great universities, high-quality apprenticeships, and into the best jobs.
We know that it’s not always easy choosing where to study, and what to study, at the end of Year 11. Our experience of running three very successful, high-performing sixth form colleges means that we can guide and support you to choose courses that play to your talents, your future plans, and your interests.
We are sixth form specialists with a strong track record. We want young people in Keighley to be able to study locally, in an outstanding college, with a wide range of exciting qualifications, and with great opportunities to grow and develop. We want to support young people to shape exciting futures and create a sixth form college that people in Keighley feel proud of. Why not take a look at our video by scanning

Richard Fletcher CEO - New Collaborative Learning TrustABOUT US
New College Keighley would be the fourth sixth form college in our organisation, New Collaborative Learning Trust.
We started with New College Pontefract which, in 2014, was awarded an ‘outstanding’ report from Ofsted, becoming the first sixth form college in the country to be graded ‘outstanding’ in every subject area inspected. Since then, New College Pontefract has consistently been at the top of the national tables for post-16 achievement, and in 2020 became the first sixth form college to win both the TES Sixth Form College of the Year and the TES Overall FE Provider of the Year at the same time. The progress students made in 2022 for A level courses positioned the college in the top 10% in the country.
In 2017, we opened New College Doncaster, which quickly established itself as the best provider of A levels in the Doncaster area and joined New College Pontefract at the top of the national tables. In January 2022 its first Ofsted inspection resulted in an ‘outstanding’ report, cementing its reputation and helping it to win a Pearson National Teaching Award
New Collaborative Learning Trust is a national leader in specialist, post-16 academic education, delivering high-quality A level and A level equivalent courses across Yorkshire. We are an inclusive provider, offering a wide range of academic courses that suit students with different skills, different GCSE results, and different ways of learning. We believe that students in all parts of the country should have the chance to join an outstanding sixth form college, regardless of their background, and we want to make a real difference to the communities we serve.
WHY A
sixth form college?
New College Keighley will be an academic sixth form college, which is different to both a school sixth form and a general further education college. All our students will be aged 16-19 and all will be studying academic qualifications, mostly A levels but a good number studying A level equivalent qualifications – Applied General qualifications such as BTEC courses. All of these courses are offered because they support students to progress to university, and because they link to the jobs, industries and opportunities in the region.
New College Keighley will be a stepping-stone to university and your experience with us will feel different to Year 11 in some ways, but very similar in others. It won’t just be the fact that our students don’t wear uniforms and that we don’t have bells. It’s more about the adult relationship we develop with our students. We are careful to get the balance right –expecting students to work hard and make good progress, checking carefully that things are going well, but trusting you to use your time and the college facilities as a young adult and as an independent student. We have strong and effective systems to provide additional support, guidance and structure if and when you need it.
subject choices
New College will be the perfect size for sixth form study – small enough to feel like a community but large enough to offer a bigger range of subjects than a school. This means you will be able to genuinely choose the subjects that really excite you, that play to your strengths, that link to your future plans.
Helping you to select the right courses is critically important, which is why we sit down with you individually several times during the application process, making sure that your subject choices fit your future plans and maximise your chances of success. The official list of courses we will run will be included in our prospectus if the Department for Education approves the opening of New College Keighley. YOUR
PROGRESS
Throughout your time at New College, you’ll know exactly how you are progressing. We will use lots of assessments, including traditional exams and small, informal knowledge checks during lessons and via your homework. You will receive lots of regular feedback, reflecting on the areas you need to target and addressing any weaknesses really quickly. This will help you to feel confident and in control, and it will mean you’ll be very well-prepared for your final exams or assignments.
wellbeing & support YOUR
New College will be a place which embraces and celebrates our differences. We want all of our students to feel happy, valued and wellsupported. Your progress tutor will often be your first port-of-call if you’re finding things tough. They will provide you with individual support or signpost you to other professionals who can also help, such as our team of counsellors or organisations outside of college.
We will run lots of events and campaigns throughout the year, helping students stay safe and make positive decisions which support good physical and mental health. We will also have an experienced and committed team supporting students with additional learning needs (SEND) and a dedicated safeguarding team.

What’s the likely timeline?
We hope to find out in spring 2023 if New College Keighley has won approval from the Department for Education. Our aim is for the college to open its doors to students in September 2024. If so, students will be able to start applying from September 2023 for the following year.
How would I apply to become a student?
Once New College Keighley wins approval, we will begin marketing the college to students and parents in the local area. Students will need to apply by a deadline, which we will advertise widely. They will then be invited to attend an informal interview as part of this application process, before attending an induction day in the summer before we open. Students would then formally enrol when they receive their GCSE results.
