NCLT is a multi-academy trust created in 2015 by the governors and senior leaders of New College Pontefract; an outstanding sixth form college. The vision for the Trust grew out of our commitment to share our strengths and collaborate with others to improve outcomes for students. Today, our Trust comprises a family of 16-19 colleges located in areas of historical and persistent underachievement across Yorkshire and the Humber - New College Pontefract, New College Doncaster and New College Bradford. In the future, the Trust’s intention is for managed growth in line with our expertise and through maximising partnerships and deployments from our Teaching School.

SUPPORTIVE & CHALLENGING
ENVIRONMENT
We are unapologetic in being driven to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students; because of this, we aim to give every individual member of the team whatever help and support they need to flourish as an outstanding member of staff. We offer an in-depth induction programme for new staff which includes training and support through our existing sixth form colleges. We offer lots of CPD in-house through our teaching and learning experts and also via the Teaching School. We also have a CPD budget to which all staff can apply to access externally provided CPD. The Trust also offers staff the opportunity to attend an innovation and exploritory day which centres around further professional development. Staff are encouraged to spend a day in industry or in other educational establishments in order to learn from colleagues.
246 external training events were attended by NCLT staff in 2019, providing opportunities for staff to refresh knowledge, new skills and collaborate with others. Having been awarded the Investors in People Award, we have been recognised for our ongoing dedication to our people management practices, strongly investing in the development and performance of our staff. The Trust has also achieved Leaders in Diversity status and has featured in the National Central for Diversity Top 20* list for the last two years running, demonstrating how we create an inclusive environment in which diversity is celebrated; recognising the advantages that individuals from different backgrounds, with different skills and experience can bring to our organisation. The Trust is also a Disability Confident Committed Employer, has achieved the Wakefield Wellbeing Charter (for staff health and wellbeing practices) and we run a varied Trust Equality and Diversity Events programme.

WIDER OPPORTUNITIES AND CAREER
PROGRESSION
The Trust is outward-facing and believes strongly in collaboration. New College Pontefract is the lead strategic partner of our Teaching School, which is an exciting project involving collaboration with over 30 schools and colleges from primary level right through to higher education institutions in the Yorkshire region. The Teaching School creates opportunities for staff to access a range of CPD events, to deliver CPD events, to get involved in supporting colleagues and departments in other schools and colleges, and to contribute to the development of initial teacher training. NCLT holds three shared Trust planning days across the academic year to facilitate subject planning and preparation across all our colleges. In addition, we hold half-termly subject meetings, using technology to connect across our colleges and facilitate working together to develop subject pedagogical knowledge. Alongside the work of our teaching school, the formation and growth of the Trust is a great vehicle for developing talented teachers, staff and leaders, and has already created many new opportunities for staff. The Trust has an enviable reputation for career progression and internal promotion over the last few years.
In 2019, there were 70 staff promotions across the Trust (either staff moving to a more senior position or taking on an additional responsibility role). 92% of staff reported that they felt valued in the organisation (NCLT Annual Employee Engagement Survey for 2019)
We hope to be able to offer both longer term career progression, as well as short term projects to be able to suit the needs of a range of staff to help us engage and retain the most talented team of people. We are pleased to report that our staff turnover is low and we are successful in retaining talented and committed staff within our Trust.
