A t t e n d a n c e

The Academy expects all students to strive to achieve 100% attendance.

To achieve their best, students must be on time and in the academy every day. The aim is 97% attendance to ensure good progress. Children should only be absent if they have a really good reason for being away

Being in lessons will help your child to keep up with their learning Their attendance will appear in their academy reports and is reported to colleges or employers when your child leaves.

If there is a problem which prevents your child attending there is always someone in the academy who you can talk to Your child’s Form Tutor, Pastoral Lead, Teaching Head of Year, Health Support Practitioner or the Attendance Officers can be contacted to help you get the support you need.

Academy Day

Doors open: Monday-Friday 8am

Learning day starts at 8:25am

Holidays in term time

We will NOT authorise holidays in term time. Any holidays taken will be classed as unauthorised absence from the academy.

To report a student absence, inform us of lateness or advise of upcoming appointments, please contact the Attendance Team on 01709 513002 selecting option 1.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

All items of the Wingfield Academy uniform are compulsory.

Formal plain black, flat shoes with a solid sole. Trainers and boots are not permitted White shirt/blouse.

Wingfield jumper/cardigan with logo. Academy tie.

Plain black tailored trousers, with no ankles showing. Trousers must not be tight around the calf or ankle. They must not be a skinny fit.

Plain black full size socks, not trainer socks. Colour coded year group lanyard including timetable

The only items of jewellery permitted to be worn are one pair of small stud earrings that are no bigger than a 5p coin, one signet ring and a watch. The list below are examples of attire that go against the Academy uniform code and must not be worn.

This list is not exhaustive;

Skirts/shorts

Leggings/trousers of a tight fitting style

Headbands that are not plain black

Training shoes, sandals, flip flops, canvas, plimsolls, Ballet style shoes, high heeled shoes or boots.

Shoe laces other than black

Body, facial or tongue piercings including retainers.

Bracelets

MAKEUP

In Years 7 and 8 students are not permitted to wear make-up Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 are allowed to wear make-up however it must be minimal and discreet, looking entirely natural Excessive make-up will have to be removed Eyeshadow, false lashes, heavy mascara, heavy eyebrows and brightly coloured lipstick would not be acceptable for any student False nails, such as acrylic/gel and any coloured nail varnish are not regarded as acceptable Brightly coloured dyed hair which is not natural looking, hair that has patterns shaved into it or other types of extreme hairstyles will not be accepted.

We expect every student to arrive every day to the academy fully equipped This means they must have:

Rewards

Students will have plenty of opportunity to earn rewards stamps in every area of academy life, inside and outside of the classroom. From outstanding efforts in learning to showing resilience in overcoming challenges to showing kindness to others The opportunities are endless for them to shine! These rewards stamps will translate in to short, medium and long term rewards on an individual basis and where appropriate, collectively

What happens if things go wrong as they sometimes will?

If your child does not follow the expectations in relation to being respectful or responsible e.g. disrupts learning, shows disregard for other students causing them distress, non-completion of ILT then staff will record this behaviour electronically.

This will result in a detention or further action which may include phone calls of concern, reports or time in the consequence room. We will also work with your child to help them reflect upon the behaviours which caused things to go wrong in an effort to help them make better choices next time. Persistent disregard for expectations may trigger education off site for fixed periods of time and in some cases may lead to suspensions requiring parents/carers to meet with us before children are allowed back in to learning

Safeguarding

Student wellbeing and welfare is a priority to us. We are a listening school. Your child’s safety and happiness are our priorities . Bullying and anti-social behaviour is not tolerated.

Working Together

Partnership

You are the most important people in your child’s life. Strong parental and academy links are vital. We are now both responsible for the future success of your child. Our expectations should be supported to ensure the best educational experience. Working together will make us stronger.

Staying Connected

We communicate with parents/carers electronically via the My Child At School (MCAS) app You will receive important communications from the academy and will be able to find daily information about your child’s behaviour, attendance and periodic progress.
