adventure It might be daunting getting on a coach with a load of strangers, but if you can do that, you can take on anything we throw at you. Phase 1 is all about challenging yourself; you’ll live away from home, be part of a team and take part in all sorts of outdoors activities. Dive in! It’ll be worth it!
“It was the best experience of not only my summer, but my life. I met so many people I deeply cherish now and learnt multiple new skills that I will carry forward in my life.”
“The best part was going to our social action partners and meeting people with dementia.”
“There were moments where I was scared or got a little mad but NCS taught me how to deal with that, as I know that’s what will happen in the real world.” loren, dodworth

“The activities have been incredible to do and conquer my fears (such as water) when I did coasteering.” emily, andover
“Our campaign day was a fantastic day to make a change in our local area and raise awareness about something we felt passionate about.”
“All of the activities, from the 3G swing in Week 1 to helping fix-up a run down and abandoned garden in Weeks 3/4 were really engaging and interesting and there was rarely a dull moment. Overall, an experience I will never forget and I think that I’ve grown as a person as a result.”

Can I bring my phone? Well, it depends. You can’t use it during activities but there will certainly be points when you can Snap, tweet and Insta – they’ll be A LOT you’ll want to record. Your local NCS team will let you know how it applies to you. Do I have to take part in every activity? Nope. If there’s anything you feel uncomfortable with, you can sit it out. But our instructors are professionals trained to support you, so if you try something out of your comfort zone they’ll be there for you.
Can I bring a mate? Yep. NCS is a great way to meet new people, but you can totally go with a friend using the Take a Mate offer. Check out our website for the full info. I have a disability. Can I come on NCS? Absolutely. NCS is for everyone to enjoy and our team are trained to assess individual needs. Please speak to your local NCS team in advance so they can arrange the right level of support to ensure you get the most out of your NCS experience.
Action Strong, capable and skilled, you’re now ready to change the world around you. In your teams you’ll devise a social action project for your local area. It could be anything from planting a community garden to a creative or sporting event - the wackier and more original, the better! Whatever you feel passionate about, we empower you to do it.
Celebration At the end of your time with NCS, you and your new mates will get together to celebrate your achievements. In a few short weeks you will have overcome challenges, pushed yourself into new and exciting territories, and had experiences you never thought possible. You and your team will have done so much to feel proud of and now it’s time to party!
The future... The summer experience may be over, but there’s still so many opportunities ahead: you can join your local youth board, get updates on volunteering and internship openings, and, of course, stay connected with your friends. Your local NCS team will be happy to share all sorts of info with you. NCS opens doors, but you are the one now ready to run through and change your future beyond them. In short, we know that NCS will make you feel unstoppable!
