SUMMARY National Youth Month Celebrations Under the theme “Imagine. Ignite. Inspire”, the 2016 Youth Month activities will be anchored on the exploration of economic and personal advancement opportunities through Science, Technology and Telecommunications and the Creative Industries.

Youth Month 2016’s central activities will include the LAUNCH, INTERFAITH CHURCH CELEBRATION, AROUND THE TABLE DINNER SERIES, YOUTH SPORTS COMPETITION, YOUTH PARLIAMENT and MADE IN THE FUTURE YOUTH FESTIVAL.

BACKGROUND Jamaican youth culture and the island’s young people have long captivated and influenced major cultural movements across the globe. Notwithstanding a population of less than 3 million people, Jamaica’s ability to produce a procession of global cultural icons and iconic movements such as George Headley, Marcus Garvey, Bob Marley, DJ Kool Herc, Grace Jones, Usain Bolt, Rastafari and Reggae – it can be argued, that our island, per capita, is the most culturally influential nation on earth. Driven by the belief that if given the opportunity, Jamaican youth have the energy, fresh outlook and innate creativity to solve many of the island’s ills and become the architects of a prosperous future Jamaica.
VISION/
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information has envisaged the creation of a large-scale platform that globally celebrates and showcases Jamaica as a nexus of world-class youth talent and creative energy.
OBJECTIVES
The goal is to transform the annually coordinated youth month into a sustainable catalyst for youth empowerment and youth engagement. We envisage over the next five (5) years, the creation of platforms and programmes that:
• Identify, harness and showcase the very best of Jamaican youth products and services to our nation, our region and the world. • Encourage young people to dedicate themselves to a deeper spirit of youth camaraderie and collective progress • Expand and deepen the quantity and quality of young people in major decision-making positions in Jamaica

Structured yet informal, the event that targets and enterprising young people (18-29 years old) from across the island that currently engaged in dynamic entrepreneurial or community endeavors.
The Around The Table discussions will provide a platform for youth leaders to engage with leaders of business and politics for networking and knowledge transfer.

For the 2016 sitting, the NYPJ will target young persons aged 15 – 29 years old who are passionate about national development and are active participants in youth and community organizations.
The National Youth Parliament Jamaica (NYPJ) seeks to strengthen the democratic process in Jamaica by deepening understanding of parliamentary democracy among young people. The NYPJ will build self awareness and inspire young people to understand and engage with social issues towards initiating citizenship action and promoting positive social change.

National Six (6) a side football competition and community netball competition. Each event will begin at the parish level, pulling together teams for football and netball. The winner of the each sporting event will represent the parish at the National competition.
