A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew Glory to Christ our Saviour.
And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Beth'phage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. If any one says anything to you, you shall say, `The Lord has need of them,' and he will send them immediately." This took place to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet, saying, 
 "Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you,
 humble, and mounted on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass." The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the ass and the colt, and put their garments on them, and he sat thereon. Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" And when he entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" And the crowds said, "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee." Today is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. On this day we call to mind Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

Liturgically we join in procession and receive our palm cross which for us is a sign of victory as we sing 'Hosanna to the Son of David'.
!
Holy Week is tremendously significant in may ways, primarily it is that time when we contemplate the final words and actions of our Saviour Jesus Christ, as he ends his historical journey here on earth.
!
The final days of Holy Week will demand our attention and a change to our normal personal schedules as we participate in the liturgies of the Paschal Triduum which begins on the evening of Maundy Thursday.
!
Professor Patrick Regan of San Anselmo University, Rome tells us that in the Paschal Triduum we observe one event, the path and passage of our Lord from this world to the Father. He considers that the Passion of Christ not only signifies crucifixion; but rather the glorification of the Son.
!
This glorification is observed conveniently over a period of three days. Good Friday is therefore part of the observance when the bridegroom is taken away; but he has not gone for ever, for in the midst of laying down his life, he remains with us and returns powerfully at the celebration of the PaschEaster
!
The Holy Saturday night vigil is is an impressive liturgy in which we renew our baptismal vows. The holy church awaits the return of the Bridgroom, the Triduum ends with the Mass of Vigil.

In our baptism we are given new life since we share in the passage of our Lord from death to life eternal.

We follow the thinking of Professor Kevin Irwin whose view it is that when we hear “vigil” the clear message is to come to mass the following day. Easter Day then is one of obligation in which me make our communion with our risen Lord.

In all of our life therefore we experience the dying and rising until that time when death shall be swallowed up in victory as the blessed apostle Paul tells us.
!
Let us make the effort to participate in these wonderful events in which Jesus brought salvation to the world and encourages us to face the daily challenge with vigour and hope.
!
We have the chance to be good evangelists and invite our friends and relatives to share with us during the services of Holy Week and Easter.

HEALTH CORNER EAT YOUR VEGGIES Vegetables are good sources of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Each person should aim to eat two or more servings of vegetables daily. How much is that? A serving is 4 ounces or half cup of vegetables. Did you know? ✓ 1 serving of the following vegetables can provide all or nearly all of the Vitamin A needed daily:

!Try to cook vegetables in the minimum amount of water. Too much water will result in greater losses of nutrients and flavor. The water used to cook vegetables could be used in stews and soups. This water contains water soluble nutrients.

To reduce nutrient losses and cooking time, add vegetables to boiling water. This also aids in preserving flavor.
✓
Many nutrients are concentrated just beneath the skin, therefore where possible cook vegetables in their skins. If you don’t eat the skins, you can peel them after cooking by pulling the thin layer off; you would have still preserved the nutrients during the cooking process.

!Nutrient loss occurs when vegetables are exposed to light and air; therefore, don’t wash, chop, or slice vegetables until you are ready to use them.
