THE COLLECT O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as He is pure; that, when He comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like Him in His eternal and glorious kingdom; where He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A Reading from the Word of God written in the Book of Job Chapter 19 beginning at the 23rd verse
!Job said, "Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were
inscribed in a book! Oh that with an iron pen and lead they were graven in the rock for ever! For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then from my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another.

 PSALM 17: 1-8 Exaudi, Domine.
!
1 Hear my plea of innocence, O Lord; give heed to my cry; * listen to my prayer, which does not come from lying lips. 2 Let my vindication come forth from your presence; * let your eyes be fixed on justice. 3 Weigh my heart, summon me by night, * melt me down; you will find no impurity in me. 4 I give no offense with my mouth as others do; * I have heeded the words of your lips. 5 My footsteps hold fast to the ways of your law; * in your paths my feet shall not stumble. 6 I call upon you, O God, for you will answer me; * incline your ear to me and hear my words. 7 Show me your marvelous loving-kindness, * O Savior of those who take refuge at your right hand from those who rise up against them. 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; * hide me under the shadow of your wings, Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen

THE EPISTLE A Reading from the Word of God written in the Second Letter to the Thessalonians Chapter 2 beginning at the 13th verse. We are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed on and triumph, as it did among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not all have faith. But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from evil. And we have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will do the things which we command. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. Reader: ALL:
Here ends the Reading. Thanks be to God.

THE HOLY GOSPEL Gospeller: The Lord be with you All: And also with you Gospeller: A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour. At that time there came to Jesus some Sadducees, those who say that there is no resurrection. And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage; but those who are accounted worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they cannot die any more, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being 5
sons of the resurrection. But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to him." Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ. ALL: Praise to Christ our Lord.

! ! Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ !
The Most Reverend Dr The Honourable John W.D. Holder, CBE, LLD
Today is Stewardship Sunday and I wish to use this day to launch a major appeal within our Anglican Community. The very nature and purest form of Stewardship as defined by a popular lexicon is “managing everything God brings into the believers' life in a manner that honours God and impacts eternity” and that certainly defines what I am speaking of today.

The Cathedral of St Michael and All Angels is an integral part of the worship for the Anglican Church in Barbados. Indeed, it is the mother church and needs to be acknowledged and regarded as such by each and every one of us in this community.
!
This building with its primary place in the heritage of Barbados has contributed significantly to the island’s achievement in the UNESCO World Heritage status for ‘Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison’.
!
Therefore we, as Anglicans, carry a serious responsibility to keep and maintain this property as befits its status in Historic Bridgetown. Unfortunately, over the years, this building has fallen into a sad state of disrepair, so much so that we now need some BDS$10 million to execute a restoration project to return it to its former glory.
!
Today then, I am commencing a full fledge appeal to all Anglicans, here in Barbados and outside of Barbados to assist us in this mammoth fund raising project. Starting next week, we will be sending a letter to every Anglican, notifying them of a ‘$5 Appeal’ which is part of the fundraising project. The letter will outline all the details but we are asking you to commit to $5 per month for 2 years, through this programme. This will help us to meet our monthly commitments to service the loan which we need to get the work done.
!
In addition, there are some other major fundraising projects underway including the re-publication of the book Historic Churches of Barbados, the upcoming sale of memorabilia and branded items, the staging of a number of fundraising shows and concerts plus the setup of the website from which we expect to
7
raise money from benefactors and our Anglican family abroad.
!
On these various projects, you will be hearing more from the Barbados Diocesan Trustees and the congregation of the Cathedral as we go all-out to complete this project that should be dear to the hearts of all who call ourselves Anglican and indeed all who call ourselves Barbadian.
! I thank you in anticipation of your support. ! ! !
