PROMOTING A LOWCARBON, EQUITABLE AND RESILIENT COVID-19 ECONOMIC RECOVERY NDC PARTNERSHIP HIGH-LEVEL STATEMENT JUNE 2020

While we are all rightly focused on addressing the immediate health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global climate change crisis remains as critical and urgent as ever.

As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, our actions must drive transformative action towards a low-carbon, equitable and resilient future for all. This approach is consistent with the Paris Agreement and 2030 Agenda, and will deliver better jobs, cleaner air and improved health outcomes, among other benefits. Healthy societies, healthy economies and healthy natural systems must go hand in hand. The NDC Partnership with its more than 175 members— countries, international organizations and nongovernmental organizations—has supported over 70 countries to implement and enhance their Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement over more than three years. We are building on this work to ensure climate action is at the heart of every country’s economic recovery.

The Partnership is committed to supporting countries as they pursue a lowcarbon, equitable and resilient recovery. We are already targeting resources to achieve this and will expand our efforts.

As a Partnership, we will continually coordinate and share learning to promote low-carbon, equitable and resilient recovery and enhance cooperation with other actors and initiatives. The Partnership will ensure that developing country members have the support they need to boost internal capacity and direct their recovery plans. It is our joint responsibility to address the COVID-19 and climate crises by adhering to the best available science and ensuring that investments contribute to better, more low-carbon, equitable and resilient societies. No challenge is too great when we work together.
