“...a combination of high minded ideas or ideals and excellence in form is what compels the human imagination and spirit”. Friedrich Schiller. In my career so far as a Designer, I have had a variety of Design culture experiences, experimented with various art media and a multitude of CAD/BIM use. With a strong educatioinal background in the art as well as the technological side of architecture, I have a well rounded approach to Architecture from conception through to technical production. Beyond more core skill set, I also have a penchant for problem solving and like to draw inspiration from life experiences, travel and social interaction. Constantly improving my Design and Artistic abilities by drawing from all areas of my life is a continuous endeavor that I truly enjoy. DESIGN STATEMENT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Design informed by strong artistic intuition, practical sensibility, philosophical flair and implementation using Innovative technology summarizes my approach as a Designer. According to me, concept development is a process that involves Sketching, software/robotic methods and the elaboration of a poetic narrative responding to the context specific to the site, space or building to be designed.
PROCESS ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I instinctively start by sketching, quickly moving to 3d applications (testing massing models, daylight and energy models, programmatic schemes); I can then translate loose concepts into precise working drawings. Working as part of a team is essential in an architectural practice, and I believe in championing the group’s best ideas. An individuals innovative notion can only be brought to life by the collective imput of colleagues varied expertise. Finally, I am able to adapt my process to suite projects from small to large budgets and in locations around the world. Living and learning experiences across Africa, Europe and America, has set a tone for a multicultural perception of Architecture and the Arts, which I strive to draw from to create beautiful architecture. Please find selected personal and academic portfolio at - www.abbiyesuku.com
Projects i’ve worked on range in size from 4,500SQFT to 3,500,000SQFT and type from spec. office buildings, corporate campuses, education and culture center, financial services firms, professional services offices and tech. offices (either interior or exterior). In parallel, I have a strong interest in parametric models and using them as a tool for design. I believe parametric systems have the potential to bring back Ornamentation in Design in ways beyond just an applied aesthetic, one that’s a symbiosis of primary and secondary building structural systems. But parametrics alone cannot make good design, cllassical methods of Site analysis, spacial phenomenology and a site specific poetic conception could together bring a human dimension to an otherwise cold and engineered process. I believe the form complements the human spirit as the human continues to make beautiful form (beautiful and practical Architecture).
