Process Work Considering the constraints and the benefits of the site influenced the design of the cottage. For instance, I considered the views which reflect the orientation of the build, sun path to determine how to get the most amount of natural light, topography to determine if the cottage should have more than one level, and natural features such as the vegetation and landscape surrounding the area.

The Great Room This area of the cottage features the kitchen and living room. The open concept space is flooded with natural light and breath taking views. The space allows for sociable opportunities and casual gatherings.
4
Capturing the View The exterior of the home influences the interior. Exploring different window and mullion styles was important to consider because it is what frames the view of the lake. The view is essentially what holds the value of the home.
Fireplace Elevation The Living Room This space of the cottage features a grand floor to ceiling, double sided fireplace that ties both indoor and outdoor spaces together. Besides the view, this fireplace becomes the focal point of this area of the home. The dual feature of this fireplace offers the opportunity to use the fireplace all year round. The client will be able to take advantage of their outdoor space long after summer ends.
5
The Kitchen This kitchen takes on modern and sophisticated approach as a 12ft island replaces the functionality of the traditional dining table. When in the process of making this design decision, it was important to consider the positives and negatives according to who will be using the space. In this case, removing the dining table and taking advantage of the open concept space to have a larger island worked well with the client as they frequently entertain.

So Project Details 5530 sq ft Located in Melbourne, Australia Concept Terroni Restaurant values their relationship with their food just as much as they value their relationship with their guests. There is a sense of transparency between the two. Leveraging its reputation for authenticity and high quality regional offerings is what sets Terroni apart from other restaurants. An open concept dining space is capitalized by the clear sight lines into the kitchen as the aroma from the wood pizza oven travels to the mezzanine enhancing and elevating the dining experience. By offering guests a view into the kitchen allows them to feel apart of the food journey that underlines ones exploration of senses. The restaurant features floor to ceiling architectural details with direct views from one end of the space to the other.

Concept Many graffiti artists express a quiet and low key identity however, their work is very bold and loud as a message is being told. The walls in this space have a quieter aesthetic in terms of colour however, its curves is what turns it into an eye catching and elevated interior. Graffiti is authentic in its stylistic forms just as Louis Vuitton is in its eye catching monogram. This retail space is a combination of the two.

Brand Louis Vuitton - Something as simple as two letters interlocking with each other can be so subtle yet so loud that the brand is recognized by everyone. Graffiti is just as powerful as it stands out in the streets and catches everyones attention.

Ideation My vision for the space was to include lots of curves and dimensions because graffiti is informal and irregular in its abstract graphics. To achieve this vision, I played around with the movement and form of the interior walls. The curvature affect created a rhythm throughout the space. Also, I kept in mind the movement of the eye but also the movement of the body throughout the space. Considering all aspects of human experience and human senses influenced the design.

Winner of Rug Design Competition
25
Project Details The objective of this competition was to emulate an assigned style into a rug by using the principles and elements of design. Three students who had the best design were given the opportunity to have their rug design made into a sample that would be manufactured at ELTE’s home decor and furnishings store. My style was modern glam. Modern glam is expressed through intricate details and bold forms. I took this style and modernized it by playing around with lines, curves and irregular shapes. Modern glam is typically achieved through a combination of metallics such as gold and silver. Therefore, I kept the colour choices to a minimum but added a pop of colour using burnt yellow to mimic gold. While the black accent colour adds contrast. Playing with different pile heights is what ultimately enhanced those principles and elements of the design to shine through.
26
Process & Inspiration I was inspired by Swedish artist Hilam af Klints beautifully painted abstract works. Specifically, The Swan (No. 17). I used this as my starting point and developed around it by introducing contrast through line, shape and form.

3rd Place Winner of Sherwin Williams Student Design Challenge 29
Project Details The Sherwin Williams Student Design Challenge was a competition open to all design schools in North America. The objective was to create and submit a color rendering of an interior space for a residential design and/or for a commercial design, using a minimum of three Sherwin-Williams colors along with a project statement describing the project and explaining how color was integral to the design solution. Below is a link to my submission. http://www.swstudentdesign.com/2020/natasha-di-paola/ Design Strategy The design of this residential cottage was for a modern day family who admire the great outdoors. With keeping this in mind, I designed a space that offers an indoor outdoor feeling through colour and materiality. Applying nature like hues into the space really embraced the outdoor environment. The two main hues that I have incorporated were blue to represent the sky and lake, and green to represent the gorgeous trees surrounding the property. I then brought in some darker tones such as black to define and add contrast the space.
