The Importance of Music to me [In Answer to:]
What Difference would this experience with Boiler Room make to you?
When I was at school I came across a Hans Christian Anderson quote, which read, “Where words fail, music speaks”. Apart from quickly deciding that this would be a future tattoo of mine, it resonated with me for a long time. Throughout the last years of school and into university there were a lot of times where I couldn’t express with words how I was feeling, but music spoke to me in a way that I couldn’t explain. Then, when I started to go to live shows I experienced a whole new type of reaction. The adrenaline and excitement when an artist is about to go on stage, the giddiness when you’re fully lost in the music blasting through the speakers and the experience of hundreds of people around you all feeling the exact same is an unforgettable sensation. Live music, and music in general, is so important to me but, as a fan of a lot of American artists it can sometimes be difficult to see my favourite musicians live. Most rarely tour here and even if they did there’s no guarantee that they would perform anywhere near to my hometown. This was part of the reason I was attracted to an organisation such as Boiler Room. They are one of the leading organisations that stream performances globally, which is something I never knew existed until recently. As part of my university course I completed an assignment earlier this year about how our convergence culture has impacted the music industry, which can be seen in my previous Issuu publication. While I was researching this topic, I came across Boiler Room. Technology has advanced rapidly and one of the key fields in which it is arguably the most obvious is media, in particular the music industry. Countless times I’ve missed out the chance to go to a gig or just wanted to relive the moment back and now live performance streaming services seem to aim to solve this problem. When you’re at a show, it’s all too easy to get your phone out and video the performance, but this detracts from the show and you end up not enjoying it or taking in the moment that’s being created on stage. If streaming sites such as Boiler Room are the future of the music industry, I’m excited to see more! The opportunity of an experience working alongside Boiler Room is something I never expected to gain access too. Having worked in events in the past, even working at music festivals, I became interested in the idea of bringing my passion and career goals together. So I started researching getting into work within the music industry more. I’m due to finish university in a couple of months and now is the time I need to decide what my options for a future career are. One of which is to work in the music industry, which I previously wasn’t sure how to gain experience in and now Boiler Room and O2 have answered that question! This opportunity would help to shape my career path by building on my previous event experience and expanding it into the music industry which I have only had a taster for in the past. I would gain an insight into how to get into the industry, the different opportunities out there and how to apply my existing skills to this area. It may sound dramatic to say it would be an experience of a lifetime but opportunities such as this one do not come often, so I’m thrilled to have the prospect of experiencing my dream career goal!
