PROFILE
13/05/1987, Hanoi, Vietnam National: Vietnamese
I was born in 1987 in Hanoi, Vietnam, where I graduated from Hanoi Architectural University in 2010.
13a 17/9 Ta Quang Buu. str, Hai Ba Trung. dis, Hanoi nduytan@me.com +84 9 69 26 24 21
From 2009 to 2011 I worked in group8asia in Hanoi, where I had experience mostly in Asia complex projects, including projects in Vietnam, Singapore and Taiwan, where speed in architecture is very important, both in producing drawings and making decision. In 2011, I was one of the first Vietnamese architect were sent to group8 headquarter in Geneva to be part of the Swiss team. I was involved in projects of different contexts and scales, ranging from small house in Anieres, Geneva to a big masterplan study in Veyrier, Geneva. I learned a lot about conceptual studying and finalize Swiss detail drawings, which required very high professional level. My ambition is to create precise, pragmatic architecture, embedded in its spatial, climatic and cultural contexts. I have special passion in pattern studying, which I found can give unpredicted effect and feeling into architecture

The reception desk area, including some front parts of the back offices are re-organized in order to re-orientate the reception directly facing the entrance of the hotel. Its straight shape, framed as well by the merchandise displays all around the lobby and its orientation, right in front the entrance doors, re-inforce the representative function of the reception desk. There are no longer any «virtual» divisions between the lobby, the lounge area and the reception area. All people are «brought together» in one single lobby, where «islands» define functions: lounge for a cup of tea, the waiting area before an appointment, the guest- desk for informations, «the link» to stay connected etc.... Each islands is «individualized» by its carpet, its furniture and its lighting. it provides a certain intimacy, in the middle of a large space, crossed COMFORT & SERVICE by everybody.

Tadioto Art Space, Hanoi, Vietnam coordinate architect, collaboration with bureau A 400 m2 public space 2013 art installation, completed
A temporary garden installation for Tadioto. The Garden is an attempt to participate to a new fresh life that’s emerging within the particular space of a factory from the Soviet era in Hanoi. It is a temporary installation which aim is to be a sort of “tropical forum”. The history of gardens has taught us the importance of the gardens when it comes to places for meditation, debate and intimate thinking. The Garden was created for such purpose. It was conceived and built as a platform and object at the same time which was “thrown” into this industrial atmosphere as a support for discussions. Thought as an island in the factory hall, it uses locally found simple materials: bamboo, autochthonous plants and a carpet of 6500 charcoal bricks very commonly used as a street cooking fire.
This is the project I work in colaboration with bureau A, as group8asia coordinate architect. My tasks including contact with local consultants, finding matterial and managing construction site.

Tadioto Art Space, Hanoi, Vietnam coordinate architect, collaboration with bureau A 10 m2 mobility architecture 2013 mobile architecture, completed
Everything is dense in Hanoi, including the milk in your coffee. Everything is used. In unexpected ways “things” live different lives, they reincarnate continuously into new functions, passing from one life to another without a moment of respite. In Hanoi, this magic of creativity ends up in everyday life as opposed to art museums. The blue, a vertical Bia Hoi for Tadioto accompanies this creative movement. Conceived as a support for small pieces of lives, as an ephemeral house or as a vertical street food restaurant, it might deviate from its original yet wide function and become something else, an unexpected urban animal. A mini-concert hall? A poetry podium ? It probably just needs to circulate, to stroll around the busy streets of Hanoi and then it’ll decide by itself which disguise to adopt.
This is the project I work in colaboration with bureau A, as group8asia coordinate architect, mainly with steel consultant to finalize the detail and helping to organize events.

Singapore, Singapore group8asia architect, co-leader 220’000m2 1’931 units of public housing 2013 Singapore competition, 1st prize, on-going
Year after year, Singapore continues to grow and to welcome new residential areas. Each must be highly distinctive and bring a strong feeling of identity for the future inhabitant. The new areas are not simply a stopover within daily life or merely a place to sleep; these new neighbourhoods create attractive and comfortable spaces in which to live, with all the main facilities and activities that people need to rest and to enjoy when they come back home. Composed of two main landscape features
This is the project I worked in group8asia as an architect since competition phase until basic design. My tasks including low-architecture facade study and coordinate between different teams.

- green canyons and the boulevard park - the new Tampines North draws the best from the context in which it finds itself and establishes an innovative “green leaf” concept to create the optimum environment. Linked with and crossing the boulevard park, which represents the main membrane of the tampines’ “green lung”, a series of green arterial structures organises and sets the pace for the new area. These dense and shaded lanes of trees create the main frame of the urban fabric. Following the orientation of the sun and future roads, these new green canyons divide the space and establish new plots, where the residential buildings are nestled in luxurious vegetation. All along the green canyons the new identity of Tampines North springs into existence. Each building

enjoys an abundance of nature whilst retaining its proximity to the infrastructure. The green canyon is not only the structure frame of the construction, it also creates a soft mobility network along which residents can walk, meet, rest, play, transit or discuss local events and activities. The green canyons channel the community to the boulevard park, where people can meet and experience the rich variety of landscape and public activities.

Taichung, Taiwan group8asia architect 35’000 m2 public lbrary and fine arts museum 2013 international competition, idea
Icons are human landmarks that men have created as symbols for their ideals, their aims, and their actions. They are intended to outlive the period in which they originated, to constitute a heritage for future generations. As such, they form a link between the past and the future. A Taichung Cultural City Center that represents people’s social and community life, with aspirations for monumentality, joy and pride, as well as sensations to be satisfied. The site of Taichung, with its great release onto the Park, is particularly well adapted to accommodate such a building icon. In producing a cloud, our building is afforded not only shade, but a fresh and cool climate, adapted to the place it inhabits. As the new Taichung cultural gate, the new City Cultural Center glows across the whole Taiwanese island. At the entrance of the Park, its stately shape is blurred by the sustainable technological “Taiwanese envelope”, making of its indefinite shape a mysterious, lively organism in complete harmony with the surrounding world

Hanoi, Vietnam group8asia architect 1’500 m2 fitness center 2013 commission, completed
The design of the first fitness centre of the new brand Fusion Bodyworks in Hanoi is based on the concept of “natural fitness”. Thus, group8 took the opportunity to create a natural green wall in the main open space of the fitness centre. The different services offered such as yoga and Pilates are accessible from a white “neutral” space which becomes the internal “agora” of this new meeting place. This luminous space hosts different activities and areas where you can not only spend time keeping in shape but also enjoy meeting people, working, chatting, reading, or just taking some well earned time out.
All spaces have their own identity, creating different worlds to visit and explore. From the white space of the agora you enter the dark stone locker area, moving on to the brownish smooth yoga hall then back to the white space of the machines to enjoy a drink in the back sharp lodge, before back again to the locker space to exit through the white main hall in front of the green wall.

The project proposes to consider the plot of the Swiss Embassy and the new residence of the Swiss ambassador as a parcel out of context in order to create an island complex. The shape of the volumes produced gardens between buildings and outside wall, the spaces then have differentiated and size according to the needs of users : the “entrance garden”, ”mineral and representative garden”, the “private events“ with green and flexible ; the “Ambassador garden“ ornate and private , and finally the “bamboo garden“ with plant and quiet. Each zone is assigned a specific and varied vegetation quality. This arrangement allows a separation of functions and a controlled management of the flows from one space to another.
This is the project I work at group8asia a co-leader architect in the competition phase. My tasks including conceptual studying, plan, facade, landscape design and also helping to manage the team.

The client came to us with a special order: he want to have 2 apartments in 1 small and long plot. After long study with many options, we came up with a solution that took the advantage of that special requirement. Insead of making the clear division, we prefer to mix the 2 apartment together, and that alow the client to use maximum the potential of the site, and provide to both apartments to have separate gardens, to have the view toward the lake, to have both lower and upper storey.
This is the project I work at group8 geneva as architect since concept design until basic design. My tasks including requirements studying, plan, facade design and meeting with client.

Geneva, Switzerland group8 architect - m2 cycling and pedestrian bridge 2012 Switzerland competition, idea
The Pont du Mont -Blanc marks the transition between the lake and the Rhone. This exceptional site requires a “strong” bridge to mark the end of the lake and contain the specificity of aquatic and physical geography of the place. The project proposes the addition of a bridge consists of three bands that are positioned parallel to the existing deck . 1 Soft mobility , cycling. The first band , attached to the existing bridge is a two-way bike path separated from pedestrians by concrete walls that form discontinuous curves bedsteads housing prestressing cables . Each hollow where erases the structure offers the opportunity for cyclists to join or accompany pedestrians pushing their bikes on the footpath . This permeability allows two functions to coexist and communicate.
s 2 The straight line , functional , fast. The second strip is pedestrianized , arranged in the center it offers a straight and flat path , this band focuses on linear and fast path or pedestrian flow in transit. The pedestrian has the ability to overcome the rapid flow by entering the third band ( space ambulation succession ) that marks a series of breaths in the path of pedestrians. 3 Punctuation , a walk, a stroll. Punctuation space , the third band can be extracted from the rapid flow of pedestrians. This tour consists of a succession of “ balconies “ lowered , interconnected by flexible and continuous ramps. Multiple ground depressions produce strata that can sit, relax or indulge in reverie. Places are deliberately closest water and open to the landscape. Admirable view of the harbor and the water jet , the third band is the added value of the project because it gives meaning to the public space by offering places to stop, hang out, watch. Rousseau children can again be projected seaward by indulging in daydreaming.

Cross The cruciform plan combines opening perspectives on the landscape of all areas of the program, while streamlining appropriate to an essentially mono -themed “room - corridor - room“. The concavity of the spaces between the arms of the cross frees up empty spaces for the park and the trees: a passage, a place, a jetty and a lawn, hosting access and differentiated spaces. Streamline The sketch modernist revisits the idea of dynamism and fluidity that gives the building an ever-changing character. Addressing all orientations, the shape of the building therefore rejects any notion of frontal, rounded gables and flexible continuity of its smooth white facade seem adapted to embrace the light and make the hospital instead.

Inspired by the concept of Vietnamese royal garden, the hotel is the pivoting element which separates the wild world (road side) and the civilized world (beach side). On the road side, except the access road, the nature is totally untouched. Rocks and trees compose a sylvan screen in a way that the hotel is only discovered like a surprising gate to the next world. Behind the gate is the paradise garden. An immense green, blue and white fabric garmented from rectangular landscape features: tree rows, flat green roofs, stripped basins all cascading on huge steps down to the beach, finished by an extremely long swimming pool which supposes to be the longest swimming pool of the city. Impressive ambiance in glaring bright contrast.

The NTCArt will mark a turning point in the development on “Greater Taipei ” for decades to come. It will combine education, tourism, exhibition and recreation in a new architectural language. Within Group8’s proposal the ambition differs from the traditional urban museum typology. In this instance, the aim is to formulate a new architecture that is traditional as well as futuristic, sensible as well as sensational. We propose to place all exhibition spaces on a unique underground level. We imagine an almost utopian condition where different arts can be perceived as single narrative moments of chronological coincidence, autonomy, influence and convergence. The NTCART museum will be conceived as a group of huge lanterns, with exhibition life under an open-air plaza.

Disaster occurs when hazard meets vulnerability. Hazard refers to unexpected, spontaneous and, unpredicted events. The approach to such a complex issue needs to be addressed with caution and humility. The critical question when humans define natural disasters is addressed here by avoiding the typically assumed or even expected monumentality that demonstrates the dramatic power of man over nature. The Epicenter calls for a new space within the city. It is an opportunity to build a unique public space, generating a new urban landscape dedicated to the population of Istanbul and its visitors. Three layers of experience unfold to create the arena for the museum of natural disaster, The Epicenter Museum.

Punggol, Singapore group8asia architect, co-leader 255’000 m2 residential, 1876 units 2009 - 2015 commission, under construction
Located in the north east of Singapore, Punggol Waterway Terraces I & II are conceived as a slice of nature nestled within the urban fabric of Singapore. Set along the banks of the Punggol Waterway and covering an approximate site area of 70’000m2, the design concept for this 1’876 units public housing development was inspired by the terraced rice fields of Asia, giving the project a unique identity and transforming it into an icon. One of the key features of the design is the spatial connection between the landscape areas in the hexagonal void courtyards and the residential blocks.
This is the project I work at group8asia a coleader architect since the competition phase until the finishing of the tender document phase.

The stepped terraces enable the scale of the residential blocks to adapt to different urban conditions, creating different dimensions from different points of view. From the Waterway, they adopt a more pedestrian scale and are perceived as multiple terraces. The modularity of the dwelling units provides vast choices of use and modification in relation with the evolution of the family unit. The dwelling units are also designed to maximise the key views of the site. All the living spaces take advantage views towards the waterway, the jungle courtyards or the palm gardens.
Sustainability is a primary focus with the goal of establishing the Punggol Waterway Terraces icon as one of Singapore’s greenest buildings. The shape and orientation of the building, as well as the building openings and shading features, exploit the natural air movement and sun path to optimise natural ventilation and lighting while minimising heat absorption.
Mainly I work on sections, including general and detailed sections, facade details, door and window details, meeting with consultants and managing the facade team.

Hanoi, Vietnam group8asia internship 8’500 m2 office building 2008 - 2013 1rst prize competition, completed
Located at 33 Trang Thi Street, in the centre of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, this building stands amidst many commercial centres and historical places. The particular congested context coupled with the will to produce an eco-friendly building brings multiple concerns: noise management, direct view optimisation, natural ventilation principles and how to be an iconic building respectful of its neighbourhood. The facade is adapted to the different contexts of the plot. The main façade made of double-layered glass, which is directly in contact with the street, gives its strong identity to the building and deals with its constraints. On the second layer, a pattern that interprets the meeting of the trees of the Hanoi streets is printed on the glass. The back facade, which has to deal with a completely different context, is made of successions of windows and loggias which create a grid able to manage the extreme proximity of the next door building.

Petrowaco Tower building includes 6 blocks with the ground floor covering with glass. The arrangement of these blocks does not only bring natural light to the centre but also creates a large space for the mall to different areas: office, appartment, shopping centre. Trees are planted in those blocks to make the building « natural ». The facade is designed with the glass interleaved each other to provide enough natural light. The layout of the glass may be different but it still ensures the unity of the facade. The sunlight shields are arranged vertically to filter harmful sunlight. These shields are in different colours depending on the position of the observer. The diversity of the colours of the facade makes clear the idea « Petrowaco Rainbow Tower »
