ROBERT GERBER Managing Partner
At NGE, sustainability, inclusion, respect, and collaboration are ingrained in all we do. Each year, I continue to be inspired by the work of our attorneys and staff to enhance access to justice, foster diversity and equity through deliberate inclusion, support environmental sustainability, and advocate for community initiatives. As Managing Partner, I am humbled by my colleagues’ dedication to our values.
Our attorneys spent hundreds of hours completing pro bono work and community service, utilizing their legal skills and dedicating their time to impact social change and serve individuals in need. We continue to deliver firmwide programs that inspire change and educate our people, like our annual park clean-up day and internal recycling and reuse initiatives, and by hosting DEI-focused speakers at our office to provide insight from their personal experiences.
Relationships remain the key to our success. We sincerely appreciate the trust and support from our friends and clients. Your support empowers us to effect positive change in the world, and we hope you take pride in learning about our efforts to contribute meaningfully.
We seek out new ways to positively impact the world. As we plan for our office move next year, we have carefully considered the environmental impact in both the departure from our current office and our planning for our new office. A sustainable and environmentally friendly home awaits our attorneys and staff.
As we close out 2024, we hold closely the foundational values defined at the firm’s inception and look forward to reaching new heights in the New Year.

SONIA MENON Sustainability Committee Chair, Chief Operating Officer
As we reflect on the past year at Neal Gerber Eisenberg, sustainability has remained central to our corporate social responsibility efforts. It has been a journey of growth and innovation, and we are eagerly preparing for our milestone move to the iconic and historic building – The Bell – at 225 W. Randolph, next spring. Our new office space will represent our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and our vision for a sustainable future. We are pursuing prestigious certifications, reflecting our commitment to responsible resource management and innovation. With ambitious goals set, we are transforming our space to meet the highest environmental standards. From state-of-the-art HVAC systems to eco-friendly furniture, every detail has been thoughtfully designed with sustainability in mind.
In addition to planning for our move, this year we have made notable progress in diverting waste, reducing our Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions and continuing to educate ourselves on socially responsible practices. Our community initiatives have also flourished, demonstrating our commitment to making a positive impact both within our firm and in the broader community. Small but meaningful changes, highlighted in our “sustainability swaps” section, show how each of us are contributing to a greener future.
As you read through this report, I hope you feel inspired by the stories and data that illustrate our journey. Together, we can build a greener and more prosperous future, one thoughtful action at a time.

MARLON LUTFIYYA Director of Talent & Diversity
In the wake of anti-DEI activism, our commitment to DEI remains steadfast. Our efforts stem from the recognition that the we cannot provide superior service to clients unless we invest fully in the firm’s greatest resource: its people. They also derive from enduring beliefs: that we should provide customized and holistic support to our people, so that everyone has the resources they need to thrive; that diversity, equity and inclusion benefit everyone and are the responsibility of everyone; that we should identify and address barriers to the recruitment, retention and advancement of talented attorneys and staff; that, by embracing a broad definition of diversity, we reflect that which is great about our community and society at large; and that the pursuit of a diverse and inclusive environment is a constant, challenging and evolving endeavor but is better than adherence to the status quo.
This year, we continued to offer programs aimed at reducing biases and addressing potential mindset barriers to inclusion. We dug into disability inclusion and neurodiversity. We learned from speakers who discussed historical and systemic patterns of inequality and the relevance of those patterns to challenges people face today. We learned how to be better teammates and colleagues. And, we expanded our efforts to build a diverse legal talent pipeline. In short, we doubled down.
These efforts continue to help us leverage differences, provide differentiated value to clients and positively impact the community. We are excited to share them with you.

MIKE TURNER
Pro Bono Committee Chair
As one might expect, our pro bono service regularly involves litigating on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves—incarcerated individuals, migrant workers, persons with disabilities and other less fortunate people who cannot afford an attorney. This is valuable and necessary work that we feel compelled to perform. But as seen by the examples provided herein, we donate time and effort to those in need far beyond the courtroom. As a multipractice firm featuring various different specialty practice areas, we are able to provide counseling and assistance in a variety of different ways.
Just in the past year, our estate planning attorneys have drafted wills for veterans, our labor and employment team has advised charitable organizations on personnel issues and our corporate attorneys have helped charitable organizations set up and maintain their tax exempt status. Meanwhile, our IP attorneys have helped protect the intellectual property used to promote charitable services, our IT team has helped a charity preserve and license critical software, our bankruptcy group assisted community members obtain debt relief and our real estate team addressed a myriad of housing issues.
At NGE, our goal is for all of our attorneys to have opportunities to take on rewarding pro bono work in addition to their normal caseload. I’m proud to say that in 2024, as in years past, nearly all of them took advantage of those opportunities. The pages ahead are but examples of the results.

SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is central to the firm’s corporate social responsibility program. As active corporate citizens, our sustainability efforts inform virtually every aspect of our firm’s relationship with its people, our communities, and our responsibility in maintaining the long-term viability of both.
SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
A SUSTAINABLE MOVE TO 225 W. RANDOLPH
In the spring of 2025, Neal Gerber Eisenberg will embark on an exciting new chapter as we move to the iconic 225 W. Randolph buildingThe Bell. This landmark building is undergoing a complete interior transformation to meet modern standards of sustainability and efficiency, while preserving its historic character.

Our ambitious vision for sustainability within our new office space pushes the industry standards to new levels. We will be pursuing LEED Platinum Certification and Zero Carbon Certification, two of the most prestigious recognitions in the built environment. We believe these certifications represent our commitment to environmental stewardship, innovation and responsible resource management.
Our pursuit of LEED Platinum Certification ensures that every element of our design – from energy efficiency to water conservation and materials selection – aligns with the most rigorous environmental standards. LEED Platinum recognizes excellence in energy performance, waste reduction, site sustainability and occupant well-being, setting a new benchmark for responsible development.
40%+ water-use reduction from EPA baseline
LED light fixtures with occupancy sensors and daylight controls to reduce our energy consumption
Embodied carbon analysis and prioritization of materials that have a lower carbon footprint
Targeting minimum 75% construction waste diversion
But we’re not stopping there. We will also be pursuing Zero Carbon Certification for our new office space, a reflection of our commitment to reducing our embodied carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions. This certification ensures that the project’s operations will have zero carbon impact by offsetting emissions through renewable energy sources, energy efficiency strategies and carbon reduction technologies. It also focuses on design strategies to reduce the embodied carbon emissions from the manufacturing, shipping and installation of the materials fitted for our office. By pursuing Zero Carbon, we are contributing to the global effort to combat climate change. We are proud to lead by example, showing how the built environment can be a force for good.
THOUGHTFUL DESIGN CHOICES
Energy Efficiency
Our building will feature a state-of-the-art Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) HVAC system, which enhances energy efficiency and provides superior climate control. This system, combined with new double-paned argon-gas windows, significantly reduces the building’s overall energy consumption.
Natural
Eco-Friendly Furniture
Our office furniture will be sourced from renowned sustainable brands such as Haworth, Andreu World and Kielhauer. These companies are known for their focus on sustainability and innovative design practices. They are committed to reducing waste and promoting the circular economy by designing products that are durable, repairable and recyclable.
The design of our new space maximizes the use of natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting and creating a healthier work environment. Additionally, the building features Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) units with energy recovery wheels, ensuring a continuous supply of fresh air while minimizing energy loss. This will ensure excellent indoor air quality, contributing to the well-being of our employees.

Sustainable Materials
We have carefully selected sustainable materials for our flooring, walls and finishes. These materials are not only durable and aesthetically pleasing but also have a lower environmental impact compared to traditional options. We will also be reusing existing furniture and other onsite materials to reduce our environmental impact.

By creating a workspace that meets the highest standards of environmental performance, we aim to embed sustainability into our core business practices, working in a space that mirrors our values and supports our mission to reduce our carbon footprint. Striving for LEED Platinum and Zero Carbon certifications, we are not just building a new office but a legacy of sustainability, inspiring others to adopt innovative practices. OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
In partnership with Green Project Technologies, we have been able to quantify our Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions for the past five years. We have dramatically decreased our Scope 2 emissions by purchasing 100% of our energy needs from green power sources and have worked hard on reducing our Scope 3 emissions, which include all indirect emissions associated with our upstream and downstream operations. Over the past five years, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 1,405.5 Mtons CO2 eq.

EDUCATING OUR COLLEAGUES
QUARTERLY SUSTAINABILITY TIPS
At NGE, we are committed to learning about and participating in sustainability efforts that will promote socially responsible changes in the office and beyond. Our firm’s Sustainability Committee, comprised of lawyers and staff, identifies areas that will positively impact our environment. Each quarterly newsletter highlights suggestions that all of us can make in the office, in our homes and in our community.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
This year’s Earth Day theme—Planet vs. Plastics—inspired us to take small climate actions, progress on our internal initiatives and lead a conversation about sustainability.
Additionally, we invited the members of our firm to join a viewing of the acclaimed documentary, The Human Element, where we watched stories about wildfires, hurricanes, sea level rise and our changing air supply – including highlights about Americans who are on the front lines of climate change and inspired us to reevaluate our relationship with the natural world.

GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY
WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE – PARTNERING WITH CRADLES TO CRAYONS CHICAGO
Last winter, our NGE colleagues donated over 75 coats, plus blankets, hats and other winter gear, to Chicagoans not prepared for the winter weather, in partnership with Cradles to Crayons Chicago. We are proud of our NGE Community for helping those in need, while cleaning out our closets in a sustainable way.
FRUIT DONATION TO CHARITY
We are dedicated to supporting organizations that provide healthy options for our community members to thrive. We donated six cases of fruit to RTW Veterans Center that will help families grow to be strong and fit.
CANDY DRIVE FOR OUR TROOPS
Our annual effort to collect candy to send to those serving in the military produced over 40 pounds of candy, which we sent to Soldiers’ Angels Treats for Troops.
CLEAN UP GIVE BACK SCHILLER WOODS
NGE continues to partner with Clean Up Give Back for our firm’s annual Park Clean-Up Day, leaving Schiller Woods better each year. Our colleagues and their families joined together on a beautiful Saturday in October, to help our environment and return the park to its natural, intended habitat.

This year, we beat our previous record, by collecting 505 pounds of trash, found throughout the nature preserve.
PLASTIC BAGS COLLECTION
Through our longstanding partnership with the local non-profit Clean Up Give Back, NGE upcycles plastic bags to keep them out of landfills, waterways, and natural habitats. This year, we collected and diverted 440 pounds of plastic bags and soft plastics, such as shipping materials and packaging, which were then upcycled into park benches.

Client Account Specialist
A member of our accounting team has inspired her family to make the switch to using Grove products (grove.co) around the house. They’ve also made changes in their everyday routines, including opting not to use too many different cleaning products or beauty products, using toothpaste “bits” instead of tubed toothpaste, composting food waste and even using no chemicals in their lawn and garden care. They even installed solar panels on their roof.

KATHY LARSON
Secretary for Private Wealth Services
One of our administrative assistants supporting a number of firm partners is also finding time to support sustainability efforts. She has ditched the laundry detergent in plastic bottles and, instead purchases Earth Breeze, which are sheets that dissolve completely in the wash. She also recycles her plastic shopping bags at the various store locations where available, as well as contributes them to the firm effort – Clean Up Give Back, which uses plastic bags to create park benches. She has also cut back dramatically on paper towel use by substituting reusable cloth wipes and rags in her home.

It is an honor system where you take what you need and leave what you can give.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging have been, and continue to be, central to our firm’s mission. We remain committed to fostering an environment where everyone with talent can thrive. This past spring, NGE hosted Haley Moss, a lawyer, author and neurodiversity expert, for a program on disability inclusion. Haley discussed apparent and non-apparent disabilities, provided strategies for supporting neurodiversity in the legal workplace and offered her perspective as an openly autistic attorney. This program helped us to recognize the value of neurodiversity in the workplace and how to be stronger advocates and allies for neurodivergent colleagues.
NEHA SAMPAT ON IMPOSTER SYNDROME
Neha Sampat, CEO and founder of BelongLab, brought her seminar “Confidence as a Catalyst: Bringing Your Best Self to a Shifting Landscape” to NGE. A nationally renowned expert on inclusive leadership and the disruption of Imposter Syndrome, Neha provided attendees with a framework for recognizing and addressing our limiting beliefs and objectively assessing our strengths, traits and experiences to build confidence.
EXPLORING PERSONAL GROWTH THROUGH 5 ASPECTS OF LEADERSHIP
Rudhir Krishtel, an executive coach, keynote speaker, consultant and former in-house counsel at Apple, led a leadership workshop for NGE attorneys entitled “Exploring Personal Growth Through 5 Aspects of Leadership.” Rudhir explored various aspects of an individual’s leadership style and explained why traditional, hierarchical leadership paradigms often restrict individuals—through assigned titles and roles—from remaining agile and responding to evolving challenges. Rudhir provided a broader sense of the leadership aspects into which we can lean to bridge differences, foster understanding and experience personal growth.
Our firm is committed to playing a role in fostering a diverse legal talent pipeline, especially in light of the recent Supreme Court rulings against affirmative action in higher education, and the recent wave of anti-DEI activism. To that end, we were pleased to bring together several non-profit organizations that work to build a more diverse pipeline every day—through our program entitled “Diversity in the Legal Talent Pipeline: Volunteer Opportunities for Attorneys and Staff.”
During the program, our attorneys and staff heard from representatives of non-profits that work with high schoolers, and in some cases, college students, to provide opportunities to expose the students to careers in the legal profession. They also heard from NGE attorneys and staff who discussed the benefits they have received from volunteering with these non-profits.
The following organizations participated in our program:
Barrier Breakers, a non-profit dedicated to increasing access to and success in higher education for first-generation and other marginalized students;
Step Up, a mentorship non-profit for girls and young women;
The All Stars Project, a non-profit that uses a performance-based approach to the development of youth from poor and underserved communities; and
Big Brothers Big Sisters, a non-profit that supports youth through mentoring relationships and related programs.
We were pleased to hear from these partners about the benefits they provide to youth in the community and remain proud of our partnerships with them. We were also proud of the enthusiastic response of our attorneys and staff to the volunteer opportunities the organizations presented.

SERAMOUNT 2024
NGE is thrilled to be named to Seramount’s 2024 Best Law Firms for Women & Diversity list and to be inducted into Seramount’s Hall of Fame for being named to the list for at least 10 years. We appreciate the recognition for our ongoing commitment to women’s advancement, diversity, equity and inclusion and for creating a family-friendly workplace culture.
Managing Partner Bobby Gerber credits NGE’s success to its willingness to hold itself accountable for its values: “We believe that the combination of flexibility and accountability strengthens our firm’s culture and enhances our people’s professional success and personal well-being.”
NGE’s culinary talents were put on display at our annual Diversity Potluck Throwdown! Records Clerk Mario Moreno, COO Sonia Menon and Benefits Manager Lisa Gonzalez all took home this year’s top awards for their dishes. This event allows us to showcase our diversity through food and each year we enjoy learning about and trying new foods. The potluck is just one of many beloved events that our DEI committee coordinates every year. Special thanks to Partner Tanvi Patel, Director of Talent and Diversity Marlon Lutfiyya and Legal Recruiting Coordinator Katie Greene for their planning.
DIVERSITY LAB HACKATHON
NGE participated in Diversity Lab’s 2024 Moments to Movements Hackathon in New York City—a shark-tank style pitch competition designed to generate innovate ideas for diversifying the legal profession. Partner Sonya Rosenberg and Director of Talent & Diversity Marlon Lutfiyya served as NGE’s representatives. Sonya’s team proposed a concept designed to build community and knowledge sharing between law firms. Marlon advised a team that proposed an app for the equitable allocation of work within firms—an app that was one of the competition’s winners. The hackathon served as a platform for collaboration between law firm partners, in-house leaders and DEI advisors at a national level.

THE RESURRECTION PROJECT MIGRANT WORKSHOPS
Since 2022, more than 46,000 migrants have come to Chicago seeking asylum. To assist these migrants, local Chicago nonprofit The Resurrection Project led a partnership between the city, state and federal government and other legal organizations to train attorney volunteers to assist with immigration application workshops. The Resurrection Project trained legal volunteers to meet with and screen migrants to determine their eligibility for temporary protective status (TPS) or an employment authorization document (EAD). Partner Bruce A. Fox and Associate Josh Hanson were participants in this program, enabling them to meet with and assist legally eligible migrants to obtain their EADs. Upon securing employment, these migrants were able to move from temporary migrant housing to apartments and support their families while awaiting their asylum hearings.

Through Administer Justice clinics, our attorneys have volunteered their time to advise dozens of low-income and unsheltered persons with a variety of issues such as landlord/tenant disputes, debt forgiveness/bankruptcy, commercial disputes, divorce, orders of protection and even helping them start small businesses.

IGS’s certification program awards students who have attained global skills and knowledge through academic coursework, globally focused service learning, global collaboration, and the successful completion of a capstone project. NGE counsels IGS on strategies to protect the assets that constitute its program, including license agreements and NDAs, and explores ways to protect IGS’s current and future branding initiatives and slogans used in connection with its programs.

THE
The Kennedy Forum (TKF) seeks to end the stigma associated with mental illness and substance use disorders. The organization ensures that appropriate treatment and services are available to anyone who requires support. In Illinois, TKF led the effort to successfully pass the strongest state parity for mental health law in the country. By requiring health insurance plans to remove limits on access to behavioral health benefits that are more restrictive than those imposed on medical and surgical benefits, the Illinois law represents a key step toward achieving parity.
This landmark piece of legislation moves Illinois closer to ending stigma and discrimination against those living with mental health and substance use disorders. After a decade of achievement, TKF has set audacious national goals to be met by 2033: 90% of individuals are to be screened for mental health conditions or substance use disorders, 90% of individuals shall receive the evidence-based services and supports they need, and 90% of those being treated shall be able to manage their symptoms and achieve recovery. Partner Earl N. Melamed has represented our firm by serving on TKF’s Leadership Council, providing the Illinois branch with a wide range of corporate counseling.
RAINBOW RACES
Partners John A. Biek and Eric M. McLimore assisted Rainbow Races, Inc., in obtaining a retroactive reinstatement of tax-exempt status as a charitable organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the federal tax code. Rainbow Races is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation that connects the LGBTQ+ community by conducting inclusive nautical education and training, hosting and participating in marine events, and leading community outreach. In connection with the IRS reinstatement, NGE also helped Rainbow Races become reclassified by the IRS under the more advantageous “public charity” status instead of the organization’s original classification as a “private foundation.” With NGE’s assistance, Rainbow Races is better positioned to obtain important financial resources for its charitable work in Chicago and beyond.

OBAMA FOUNDATION
The Obama Foundation’s mission is to inspire, empower and connect people to change their world. Founded by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, the Foundation seeks to build an active democratic culture where people are equipped and motivated to make change, not just at the polls or in the halls of power, but in their communities, in the places where they live, work and play. Partners Lee J. Eulgen and Ian J. Block and Associate Jessica Rissman Cohen counsel the Obama Foundation on intellectual property (IP) matters and provide strategic IP portfolio management services, in connection with the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago. The Center’s campus will include a museum, programming spaces, a vegetable garden and more.
INTERFAITH AMERICA
Interfaith America (IA) is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire, equip, and connect leaders and institutions to unlock the potential of America’s religious diversity. NGE has provided legal support to IA for several years as it has expanded its offerings from providing resources to educational institutions under the Interfaith Youth Core brand to corporate organizations under the refreshed Interfaith America brand. IA continues to grow and adapt to the postCOVID and digital landscape and to other impending challenges as the organization enters into contracts with new partners and business endeavors. NGE supports the organization by counseling IA through its branding transition and helps negotiate collaboration agreements that result in the creation of educational content and training materials for IA’s partners in the educational and corporate space.

For the fourth year in a row, every single attorney at the firm opted to make an individual donation to the Chicago Bar Foundation’s Investing in Justice Campaign, a unique annual campaign that raises funds to help ensure everyone has access to necessary legal help, regardless of financial standing. The Investing in Justice Campaign is the largest of its kind in the country, NGE attorneys have supported this campaign every year since 2008. 100% of the individual contributions from NGE attorneys to the Investing in Justice Campaign directly support the work of more than thirty pro bono and legal aid organizations and related initiatives, enabling those organizations to provide critical legal assistance to tens of thousands of people in need throughout Chicagoland. Through their collective generosity, NGE attorneys signal the firm’s ongoing commitment to providing access to justice to the most vulnerable in our community.

NGE has long worked with Equip for Equality (“EFE”) in its mission to advance the rights of children and adults in Illinois with physical and mental disabilities. EFE found itself in need of assistance when the software provider for its legal case management and reporting software stopped servicing the software following a change in ownership. Partners Mike R. Turner and Alfred C. Tam, along with Associates Charles K. Shih and Josh Hanson, assisted EFE in acquiring ownership of the software from the provider at no cost. Mike and Charlie worked with EFE to find and engage a new software service provider to not only provide support, but also allow EFE to license the software for use by Protection & Advocacy Programs (“P&A”) in other states. Alfred, Charlie and Josh counseled EFE in creating this unique arrangement between the company, the software service provider and the other P&As, including preparing the plethora of agreements necessary for executing on the arrangement.
EFE IDOC EDUCATION SETTLEMENT
Over the past year, Associate Thomas Zahrt has worked with Equip for Equality to represent two young-adult clients who were incarcerated in Illinois. Under the law, young adults in prison continue to be eligible for special education services if they were previously eligible and have not earned their high school diploma. However, Illinois prisons do not provide any special education and limit high school instruction. Equip for Equality brought actions on behalf of the youth against the Illinois Department of Corrections and the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice. IDOC and IDJJ agreed to settle those actions but did not follow through on their obligations under the settlement agreements. Tom filed a suit to enforce the agreements and state’s compliance.

AIDS FOUNDATION CHICAGO
The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) spearheads efforts to achieve health equity and justice for people living with and impacted by HIV and AIDS in Illinois. This past year, numerous attorneys including, Partners Kathryn L. Kaler, Kevin C. May, Thomas C. McDonough, Eric M. McLimore, Frank D. Paolini, and Mike R. Turner, Senior Counsel Kate H. Campbell, Counsels Andrew S. Fraker, and Gerald A. Golden, and Associates Josh Hanson, Gina Shkoukani, Faith A. Stachulski, and Sylvia Wolak devoted more than 80 pro bono hours counseling AFC and its subsidiaries on subjects surrounding litigation, corporate, estate planning, employment, and intellectual property issues. Mike and Andrew assisted the AFC in fending off copyright infringement allegations from two separate entities, resulting from the AFC’s innocent posting of material on its website promoting its charitable causes. In AFC’s case, there were also fair use elements at play. Andrew and Mike also negotiated full releases for AFC in both cases at nuisance pricing that did not detract from their fundraising goals.

PRO BONO POLICY & COMMITTEE
Neal Gerber Eisenberg embraces its responsibility, as set forth in the Preamble to the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct, “to create an environment that is hospitable to the rendering of a reasonable amount of uncompensated service by lawyers practicing in [the firm].” The firm likewise recognizes and reaffirms the responsibility of its lawyers “to use their training, experience, and skills to provide services in the public interest for which compensation may not be available.”
By proclaiming the firm’s commitment to providing pro bono publico legal services, and providing a framework for supplying firm lawyers with abundant pro bono opportunities and managing those engagements effectively, the firm’s pro bono Policy and Procedures are designed to enable the firm and its lawyers to discharge their respective pro bono responsibilities in a manner that maximizes the achievement of the ultimate objective of any pro bono publico program worthy of its name: furthering the public good.
As a gold-level member of The Chicago Bar Foundation Law Firm Leadership Circle, the firm has established, and hereby reminds its lawyers of, the goal that each of the firm’s attorneys will devote at least 50 hours per year to “pro bono legal service,” as defined by Illinois Supreme Court Rule 756(f)(1). Recognizing that varying responsibilities and practice areas will make this goal more readily attainable by some firm lawyers than others, and seeking to increase the firm’s overall level of pro bono service without relieving any lawyers of their responsibility to strive to achieve the individual annual target, the firm has established an additional goal of providing pro bono legal service that averages at least 50 hours per firm lawyer per year.
The primary objectives of the firm’s pro bono policy are to improve the lives of citizens in our community and help make our societal goal of “justice for all” a reality. Important secondary goals of this policy include (1) enhancing firm attorneys’ satisfaction with their work, (2) providing firm attorneys with valuable practice experience, and (3) attracting to the firm attorneys who share the firm’s commitment to providing pro bono legal service.

SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
NGE’s Sustainability Committee oversees the firm’s practices designed to reduce our footprint on the environment, through education and interactive events, continually seeking to raise awareness of our environmental impacts along with methods to reduce them and improve our energy performance. We strongly believe that sustainable practices are necessary for a better future and are proud to be among the leaders in promoting sustainable practices in the legal industry.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION COMMITTEE
Since its creation in 2002, our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee has worked to expand and enhance the firm’s diversity initiatives and to build upon the philosophy of inclusion long existing in the firm work environment. The Committee also launched two significant subgroups within the firm, the Women’s Network and the Minority Initiative, designed to support and enhance opportunities available to women and minorities and provide forums for them to network and develop, personally and professionally, both inside and outside of the firm.
