note from tyler A

s you know, 2016 was a potentially dangerous year for us as we navigated a senior leadership transition. But y’all stepped-up and literally shattered every goal, broke every record, and blew-up all our expectations. We didn’t think it could get any better… but then 2017 happened and we did it again! Thank you for serving and funding the vision of Northeast to redefine “church” around the love of Jesus one small act of great love at a time. I gave my life to local-church ministry because I love to preach, but I’ve come to realize that a sermon and a weekend service only make a church great for about an hour every week… and sometimes the sermons aren’t all that great! YOU make the church great! 24/7! Each and every day! So let’s keep proving to the world our God is worthy of their trust by growing ours. Our potential as a church to eternally change lives will always be tied to our willingness to sacrifice for Jesus! Let’s make history in 2018. Commit with me to serve more, give big, and love like it’s what you’re made of. Let’s never tire of being and building Jesus’ church!

connect at northeast N

ortheast Christian Church has grown into a group of 3,500 people with a mission to impact their community by meeting neighbors where they are and showing them Jesus’ love though service and support. We believe in changing lives and helping people see the love of Jesus Christ. To do that, we have to get our hands dirty, and go to where people are, love them for who they are, and show them that they matter to Christ, so He should matter to them. Our mission is really simple at Northeast - Love God, Love Others. It’s the command Jesus gives us (Matthew 22:37-40), and it’s what we stick to. If we get those two things right, we’ll get everything else right. On the contrary, if we lose sight of those two things, nothing else matters. Something that we love as a church is how many people come through our church a year deciding to dedicate their lives to Christ. Check out this amazing baptism story we wanted to share, just one out of the many.

The lady in the photo is my Aunt; my mom passed away from cancer complications in February. It would be difficult to give a ‘brief’ description of what I felt. I’m still grieving after losing my mom and honestly, I was just feeling a lot of raw emotions in that moment; I felt extremely happy, to have had the love and support of my family and friends there; I felt sad, that my mom wasn’t there to see me get baptized. I felt grateful to have the help and support of the church before, during and after moms passing. Things didn’t seem ‘real’ after mom died, except my faith in God. And even though we hadn’t been to church in a while, mom always instilled great faith and God and Jesus Christ in me. Even though I’ve been through some very ‘dark’ times in my life, the light of my faith through God supersedes the darkest time I’ve faced yet: the loss of my mother. I chose to get baptized because I’ve always had faith, and I wanted to dedicate my heart and my spirit to Jesus Christ.”

groups and conferences W

e believe that small groups are the absolute best place for you to grow in your relationship with God and your relationships with other believers. All of us want to be a part of community and connected to friends. Small groups are a great opportunity for you to get to know other believers and truly “do life together.”

This year our small groups have grown and we have seen many friendships begin and many friends turn into families. Another way we help people grow in 2017 was hosting our two conferences – Bloom for women and Summit for men. Over 600 people dedicated part of their weekend to be inspired and ultimately grow closer in their relationship to Christ.

Family and Student Ministry N

ortheast is committed to helping kids and students take steps towards Christ and the plans God has for their lives - and have a ton of fun while we’re at it! Northeast’s goal for all our family ministries is to “Think Orange” where Family (red = heart) + Church (yellow = light) come together, and “the two combined influences make a greater impact than just two influences alone.” Therefore, one of our biggest goals is to equip and work alongside parents to influence all our kids for Jesus.

Small Group Leaders–Dick and Kristan White

We feel it’s important for young adults/teens to have role models in their lives that have been through the same situations they have. We wished we had adults like that in our lives when we were younger and growing up. We feel it’s important to lead the next generation in a positive direction. So now we love being that adult for younger people.”

C

amps and retreats always bring momentum for Family Ministries. These trips are some of the most fun, challenging, and exciting things that a student at NECC can be a part of. That’s because, for a student, it may be the first time they have disconnected from the world around them and focused on Jesus. We believe that five days at camp can sometimes do more for a student than an entire year at church can. Don’t miss out on something that can change your life!

BOLDLY CHANGING

LIVES NOW!

Love the ‘Ville

community L

ove The ‘Ville began three years ago when 1,800 people spent a Sunday morning “blitzing” the Clifton area with cleanup, beautification projects, free bikes for kids and handiwork. The movement has exploded since that time into many different projects, partnerships, and community support. This year we challenged you to engage in Love The ‘Ville through large serving events, our on-going ministries, and even start your own. 2018 is going to be even bigger as we seek out new ways to make an impact on our community.

LARGE EVENTS You helped us serve the community of Clifton through Clifton Blitz and helped us host 8,000+ kids at Kidabalou.

ON-GOING MINISTRIES PB&J, Trikes for Tikes and Eastern Cemetery Clean-Up are just a few of the many on-going projects you helped fund and support throughout the year.

MINISTRIES STARTED Northeast inspired over 30 groups to start their own ministry where they see a need in their community.

Global Outreach N

ortheast’s vision is to “Boldly change lives now.” Our global outreach ministry seeks to achieve this by bringing hope to underprivileged communities around the world. That means helping meet both the spiritual and physical needs of local and international communities. How do we accomplish this? Our primary goal is to foster strategic, long-term partnerships with organizations that: •empower local people and communities to develop sustainable initiatives •believe in intentional and effective short-term trips •serve with the love of Jesus and work alongside the local church

Partner Schools O

ne of our Values at Northeast is to “boldly pursue the next generation.” We demonstrate this value by partnering with seven local schools. The goal of each partnership is to make a positive impact on the students and families. At each school, we host free, family-friendly events during the school year, provide mentors/tutors, assist with various projects and constantly look for creative opportunities to appreciate and value the teachers and staff at the schools.

SUMMER READING VOLUNTEER BEN AND LORI KIRK’S STORY

As a long time educator, one truth that I know is that even one loving and supportive person in a child’s life can make a world of difference. This summer, my son Ben and I decided that we would like to use our talents to make a difference in a child’s life. Choosing the summer reading program was a natural choice for me because of my background in teaching elementary school. Ben loves serving, especially with children. The previous summer he and I spent some time in the Dominican Republic working with children through recreation and nutrition. Helping nurture that desire, passion and interest in my own child has been very rewarding. My favorite moment of the summer was when we were in Smoketown and I turned around to see Ben surrounded by a group of young children. He was reading to them and they were so absorbed. Their eyes were fixed on him and they were captivated, leaning upon him. In that moment, my heart was so full. I will never forget that moment when I saw my big, athletic, teenage son as a gentle soul, giving the gift of God’s love. In present time, we may not know the impact of our brief work this summer. It’s our prayer and hope that we accomplished our goal and made a difference in some child’s life.”

Over 150 people tune in each weekend to our stream both through Northeast.Live and Facebook Live, from the west coast to the east coast. Many people stay connected to the weekend experience even while on vacation – so thanks for sharing a photo of your family watching the live stream, at the BEACH! annual giving N

ortheast would not be the church it is without the sacrifice of the people who call Northeast their home. The generosity of those who give enables Northeast to carry out the two greatest commandments of Jesus Christ - Love God and Love Others.

We focus on loving God by making spiritual growth and an understanding that Christ wants to be in a relationship with you, a priority. Your giving helps us do that in a variety of ways: •

Weekend services that inspire, motivate and move people closer to Christ

Teaching and programming specifically designed for the next generation so that they can learn who God is and the love He has for us

Annual conferences that take people out of their everyday lives and give them a chance to reconnect and focus on their relationship with Christ

Small groups that help people live their lives with accountability and community

We focus on loving others through Love The ‘Ville, a movement that has grown over the past three years because of the passion people have to show others the love they themselves have received from Christ. We want every person in our community, neighborhood, city, and world to know that they matter to God, even if He doesn’t matter to them. Your giving has helped Northeast find unique and creative ways to love others outside the doors of Northeast: •

Blitzing neighborhoods and schools with cleanup projects

Partnering with local schools throughout the school year to help the students and teachers

Serving the homeless, the broken, the helpless, the refugee

Partnering with organizations that help those in the world around us - hurricane relief, Haiti, Bolivia, Chilé.

These are all just a few ways that Northeast is working to make an impact for Christ. Thank you for giving, believing and helping Northeast be a church that is Boldly Changing Lives… Now!
