Welcome to AndroMaze’s “A Complete Android Phone Purchasing Guide for Dummies” In the rapidly booming Android phone market, many of us get confused as to which would be the most appropriate phone for us. Someone finds the build quality of a Samsung Galaxy Grand better than the plasticky looks of Micromax Canvas. Some others may argue the better hardware specifications Micromax offers at that point. I have myself been a victim of such confusion. To solve the confusion I did research on this topic and designed an easy-to-understand manual, which will guide you to select the best phone that suits your requirements. To use your Android phone mostly to talk: Traditional calls on GSM network or even VoIP calls require a robust battery backup to carry out conversations at a stretch. In addition to above it requires ability to pickup even weak signals. It needs a noise cancellation ear-piece and a decent microphone to filter out background noise. Preferably screen size should exceed 3 inches in order to display identity of the caller.


Incase you plan to use VoIP apps such as viber or video calling apps like skype, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that your handset supports 3G. A 3.5 mm jack in which you can plug in headphones. A front Camera ~1MP Android Version 2.3(Gingerbread) and above. Recommended apps for VoIP: Viber, Skype audio call function. Recommended apps for Video Calls: Skype B. To use mostly to chat: You need a qwerty keypad hardware( and not that appears on the touchscreen), available in a Motorola phone.

You need the most quintessential multi platform app : WhatsApp


Android Version 2.3(Gingerbread) and above. c. To use your Android phone mostly to complete your Office work you require: A big screen preferably LED or AMOLED WVGA screen ranging from 4.5 inches to 5 inches.

A powerful processor ~1 GHz or minimum 832Mhz

Plentiful Memory~1GB

Internal Memory: Minimum 500 MB

External Memory: Minimum 2 GB Class-1 SD card

Dual SIM card functionality.

3G facility


A reliable mobile carrier. eg Airtel in India or AT&T in US.

Android version 4.0(Ice-cream Sandwich) and above.

d. To utilize your Android phone as a Digital Camera you require:

High number of Megapixels ~8MP

Superior lens quality eg. Carl Zeiss lens system in Sony Experia models

Huge touch screen to navigate clicked pictures and pinch to zoom.

LED flash at the rear of the phone


Settings should be set to adjust to light conditions using visual sensor on phone. GPS for tagging and providing location info.

Good 3G connection for uploading photos on Facebook or Instagram.

A huge screen ~4 inches with 4:3 aspect ratio for better navigation in gameplay.

A fast processor,~1GHz, Dual Core Cortex processor recommended.

High RAM: ~1GB minimum for no lagging effect.

Dedicated graphics memory if possible from nVidia or SnapDragon if possible.


Noise cancellation earphones

3.5 mm headphone jack to connect headphones. Mini or Micro HDMI port to connect to TV or projector.

Low Response-time Capacitive Touchscreen

USB OTG port if possible to plug in keyboard (It is available in certain Android Phablets).

A good capacitive touch interface.

A decent EDGE (2.75G) or 3G connection.
