Not everything was better in the old days, but some things were deďŹ nitely more beautiful. Country Style is a contemporary interpretation of traditional manor house charm. Fancy oral elements adorn a Champagne-coloured background. Gold and silver dots sparkle between pale pastel shades. Delicate matt-shine effects with a hint of a border here and ďŹ ne embossing there demonstrate a dedication to detail that restores a long-gone epoch to its former glory.

Less is more. Soft Purism is a design line that consistently dispenses with all kinds of frills. Plain colours predominate in the white, grey and brown tone-in-tone shading. The plain, almost Spartan designs of primitive Scandinavia - with their Oriental roots - shimmer through almost imperceptibly. There are no excessive prints or embossing. This is aesthetic appeal in its purest form. Authentic and irresistible.

Have you packed the picnic basket? Greenstyle is reminiscent of a Sunday outing in May. It features fresh greens with splashes of warm red and rich corn yellow, and the patterns are a feast for the eye: delicate buds, filigree leaves, fantastic flowers and fairytale-like silhouettes. If you look closely, you'll discover Alice in Wonderland. It's a wonderfully happy and carefree way to dine, and a design line that whets the appetite and enhances the mood.

Shall we indulge ourselves? Opulent Luxury is all about making a big statement! It exudes an atmosphere of dramatic glamour, as if the Eastern and Western worlds have come together for a banquet. Baroque meets Arabian Nights in an abundance of colours, shapes and motifs that would typically adorn fine tapestries and royal robes. It's not for minimalists, but it is a visual feast for people with a passion for enchantment that intoxicates the senses.

There they were in front of me: eleven napkins fresh from the paper mill and just back from the dye works. They were elegant and sophisticated, and they cut a fine figure. I pondered about which one to choose.

The napkins‘ colors – a short story

Grey White

As if they had read my mind, the white and grey napkins bobbed up. Was I dreaming, or did they actually start to speak? „Choose us. You won‘t regret it. We blend in anywhere. We‘re low-key, neutral and understated. We‘re simple yet elegant.“

Red It sounded convincing. I reached out towards them. Just as I was about to pick them up, the red napkin reared up, as if raised by an invisible hand, and said emphatically, „Is that all you want? Don‘t be so conservative - there‘s more to life than that. What about the fire and passion that I represent that better than any other colour?“ The red napkin sensed my hesitation, so with a hint of defiance it added, „And I‘m perfect for big functions.“

Orange „Wait a minute!“, said the orange napkin. „I‘m the first choice for parties because I‘m such a cheerful and fun colour.“ Things were getting complicated. White, grey, red or orange? Which colour should I choose?

Pink

While I had been contemplating my choice, the pink napkin had been edging forward, millimetre by millimetre, unnoticed by the others. Its voice was soft and almost delicate: „I don‘t understand why the others always have to be so loud. I‘m more of a gentle, calm and feminine type.“ As it spoke - actually, it was more of a whisper - it snuggled up against my lower arm.

Blue

I closed my eyes and was just surrendering myself to pink daydreams when I suddenly felt a cool breeze. Instinctively, I knew who was responsible. I opened my eyes and waited expectantly to hear what the blue napkin had to say. But it remained silent. Did it have nothing to say to me? Didn‘t it want to woo me? After a few seconds, I realised what why. A regal colour like blue is far too distinguished to waste words. The colour speaks for itself.

Brown

Instead, I heard a rustling sound that reminded me of a crackling open ďŹ re. Suddenly, I felt a warming glow. I imagined that it was the brown napkin nodding to me, and how snug and cosy it would be in its presence, and how good I would feel.

Yellow

But I hadn‘t reckoned on the yellow napkin. Its cheerful voice called out from the back, „Wait… what you need is some zest for life! I‘ll give you a spring feeling, freshness and exhilaration.“

Violet

„And what about the pomp? The mystical and the mysterious?“ said the violet napkin. It did have a point - the other napkins didn‘t have those things. I was torn between so many choices. Why was it so difficult to decide?

Green „Relax. The answer‘s simple.“ I turned to look at the green napkin. It appeared to be resting. „I‘ll give you harmony and peace,“ it promised. And when it smiled at me, I was tempted to believe it.

Black

But there was still the black napkin. It had kept a low profile until now, occasionally frowning as if it disapproved of the other napkins blowing their own trumpets. Then it started to speak in its baritone voice: „I could mention that I‘m the perfect napkin because I embody status and luxury. But I love every single one of the napkins here and I wouldn‘t want you to choose any of them over the others. I‘m a great contrast to them, so why not take all of us?“ And that‘s exactly what I did.
