STELLANTIS UNVEILED THE NEW EDITION OF THE FIAT 500E GIORGIO ARMANI

The new Fiat 500e is powered by an electric motor with 87 kW and 118 hp, with range of up to 199 miles.

In celebration of FIAT’s milestone 125th anniversary, a significant partnership has been announced between Giorgio Armani and FIAT.

FIAT and Giorgio Armani previously collaborated in 2020 and have again joined forces to create what might be the finest expression of ‘Made in Italy’ on 4 wheels: the 500e Giorgio Armani. The two iconic brands, which represent Italian design, style, craftsmanship, ingenuity and success around the world, have come together to create a true “instant classic”.

The 500e Giorgio Armani is designed as a car to be worn not driven, a tribute to the mastery of the Centro Stile FIAT in Turin and the Armani Style Centre. The designers of both companies worked hand in hand over months to distil the souls of the two brands into one work. The attention to detail and care for materials, colours, and style is the same as it would be for a new model or a new fashion collection. Now, FIAT and Giorgio Armani will hit the catwalk together with the new Fiat 500e Giorgio Armani.

The level of craftsmanship, treatment, and detailing is rarely found in this segment, but is typical of Fiat 500, which has always represented Italian excellence. This approach gains even more significance and value when developed in collaboration with the greatest name in Italian fashion.

Produced at the FIAT Mirafiori plant in Turin, the new 500e Giorgio Armani comes exclusively in a hatchback version, reflecting the unmatched elegance of Giorgio Armani, whilst fully expressing the audacious personality of Fiat 500e.

Two unique and exclusive colours have been created for the 500e Giorgio Armani: dark Green micinalised, a

contemporary and technical colour that strongly reflects the style and taste of Giorgio Armani and ceramic Greige, an extremely sophisticated and refined option. This shade invented by Armani blends grey and beige, giving rise to both the tone and its unique name.

When it comes to the exteriors, the Italian designers aimed to reduce contrasts and decorations to achieve a more monochromatic effect: pure, essential, and in line with Armani’s style.

Among the standout features of the exterior are the wheels, which were exclusively designed to represent the GA logo in a macro scale. They help make the car instantly recognisable. The specific design strongly emphasizes the partnership, while improving the aerodynamic performance due to the slightly 3d surface.

The warm burnished bi-tone anodized effect and the light lateral grooves look extremely refined. The interior showcases a meticulous level of craftsmanship, with chevron stitching and three-dimensional patterns on the central seat inserts. These are reminiscent of classic tailoring techniques, whilst the materials inside the vehicle are elegant and of the finest quality. They are combined with innovative and technical processes such as the laser-cut wood that covers the dashboard insert, or highly artisanal solutions like the intricate embroidery.

The new 500e Giorgio Armani sets itself apart further with the Milanese Maestro’s logo on the seats, while the Italian stylist’s signature appears on the dashboard, the interior of the door and the rear window.

The car includes full LED Infinity Design headlamps and a glass roof. When

it comes to technology, the vehicle comes loaded with a premium JBL audio system, 7” TFT Display, 10.25” Touch Screen NAV, DAB Radio and Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto.

The 500e Giorgio Armani is available with an electric motor that has an output of 87 kW and 118 hp, with a range of up to 199 miles in the WLTP combined cycle. In addition, it is equipped with advanced ADAS technologies as part of a Level 2 assisted driving system.

“We very much look forward to offering the Fiat 500e Giorgio Armani in the UK.” said Damien Dally, managing director of FIAT UK.

“Fiat 500 is a true icon of the FIAT brand and a partnership with Giorgio Armani further reinforces this position, delivering a car of unique style and refinement but one that is underpinned by the very best small car electric technology, to ensure consistency with our commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.”

FIAT 500e Giorgio Armani, will open for orders later in 2024, with first deliveries in the UK expected early 2025.

ELECTRIFY AMERICA CONTINUES TO PROVIDE LEADERSHIP IN THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING INDUSTRY

Electrify America aims to expand its network to 5,000 DC fast chargers by the end of 2024.

M i)

Electrify America is a prominent company dedicated to advancing electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and promoting sustainable transportation across the United States. Established as a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group of America, Electrify America has made significant strides in deploying a comprehensive network of ultra-fast EV charging stations, aiming to alleviate range anxiety and make electric mobility a feasible option for a broader segment of the population.

The company’s network is one of the most extensive and technologically advanced in the country, offering ultrafast chargers capable of delivering up to 350 kW, which significantly reduces the charging time for compatible EVs. Electrify America’s charging stations are strategically located along major highways and in metropolitan areas to ensure convenience and accessibility for EV drivers. By focusing on high-speed charging technology, the company addresses one of the primary concerns of EV adoption: the long charging times compared to refueling traditional gasoline vehicles. This initiative not only supports current EV owners but also encourages more consumers to consider electric vehicles as a viable alternative.

Beyond infrastructure, Electrify America is committed to educational initiatives aimed at increasing public awareness about the benefits of electric vehicles and sustainable transportation. The company collaborates with various stakeholders, including automakers, local governments, and environmental organizations, to promote EV adoption and the development of a robust EV ecosystem.

At Electric Cars Plus we had the opportunity to interview Rachel Moses, Senior Director of Sales, Business Development and Marketing of Electrify America.

Electric Cars Plus: What are Electrify America’s plans to expand the electric charger network in Florida in the coming years?

Rachel Moses: Electrify America is the largest open Hyper-Fast charging network in the U.S. Since our founding, Electrify America has focused on building an inclusive and open Hyper-fast charging network to help facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). In six short years, hundreds of thousands of EV owners have come to rely on successful hyper-fast charging experiences at Electrify America stations each week. In 2023, the network grew to over 950 stations and more than

4,250 chargers across 47 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and six Canadian provinces.

Additionally, in 2023, the company delivered more than10 million customer sessions and approximately 380 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy. For competitive reasons, we cannot disclose any specific future locations. However, Electrify America aims to expand its network to 5,000 DC fast chargers by the end of 2024.

ECP: How does Electrify America evaluate the current electric charger coverage in Florida and what are the most critical areas in need of improvement?

RM: Our location selection process is proprietary, but it is a data-driven approach for intentional station placement that

Rachel Moses, Senior Director of Sales, Business Development and Marketing of Electrify America.

focuses on Highway travel and areas with high EV adoption rates, like metro areas, where access to public chargers is in high demand.

ECP: What specific challenges does Electrify America face in implementing charging infrastructure in Florida and how do you plan to overcome them?

RM: The challenges we face in building infrastructure are not unique to Florida. They range from difficulty finding locations that meet our standards for space and quality amenities to securing commitments from large-scale site hosts. Permitting is one main obstacle since it varies by city and county. Some permitting times can be very long, but others, like California, have developed an expedited process. Working with utility companies can also be challenging because there are over 200 utilities across the U.S. and Canada, each with different applications, designs, and power availability.

However, over the course of six years, we have developed relationships with permitting agencies, site hosts, and many utility companies. Some states have introduced bills to streamline applications for EV charging stations. Some Utilities have dedicated staff for installing EV infrastructure and are doing advanced grid capacity planning for power availability for the increasing demand. Installing a station is a very complex process, but as the EV infrastructure industry and demand grow, many processes are becoming more streamlined. It is going to take a collective effort from all stakeholders to scale and meet the growing demand.

ECP: What technological advances are you implementing to improve the speed and efficiency of chargers in Florida?

RM: Critical to improving the customer experience and making public fast charging a more seamless process, is the installation of our latest generation of chargers at new stations and earlytechnology stations needing upgrades.

Electrify America’s newest chargers are much better equipped to meet current and future demands for charging infrastructure. They have improved performance, as well as serviceability and diagnostic capabilities, which allow our technicians a higher level of first-visit repair success and improves availability.

For example, the capabilities to resolve issues remotely on the next-generation chargers are greater than those on the early-technology chargers, reflecting a 10% average increase in issues resolved remotely.

This allows us to focus our efforts on service that requires in-person repairs.

We are also focusing on replacing early-technology chargers with our newest chargers, which were purposely built to withstand heavier usage. In the last two years, we have replaced nearly 700 chargers, and this year, we aim to accelerate replacements to more than 800.

ECP: Is Electrify America collaborating with local governments, businesses, and other entities to facilitate the expansion of the charger network in Florida?

RM: Since the industry is still in its growth trajectory, we are committed to continuing to support industry-wide standards that increase vehicle interoperability and streamline public charging through collaboration with the Charging Interface Initiative (CharIN), SAE International, the National Charging Experience Consortium (ChargeX), automakers, and charging hardware manufacturers.

Additionally, it takes cooperation and focused efforts from many stakeholders to meet the demand for public EV infrastructure. Federal initiatives help facilitate private sector investment in DC fast EV charging stations that are aligned with what Electrify America has been deploying since 2018.

Through our Electrify Commercial business unit, we provide customized end-to-end EV charging solutions to businesses, utility companies, fleet owners, travel centers, and convenience stores.

If more EV charging stations are made available, this will build range confidence, and more drivers will likely be motivated to switch to electric.

ECP: What incentives are you offering or planning to offer to encourage EV owners in Florida to use your charging stations?

RM: We offer memberships for additional benefits, like real-time charger status, pricing and contact-less payment, drivers can sign up through our mobile app. Pass+ members have a monthly fee of $7.00, which provides additional benefits such as notification when your charging

Electrify America’s newest chargers are much better equipped to meet current and future demands for charging infrastructure.

session is complete and discount pricing to save them about 25% on charging. Guests can access the network through credit cards or debt cards.

ECP: What technological innovations or new services is Electrify America developing to improve the charging experience for customers in Florida in the future?

RM: Electrify America continues to provide leadership in the electric vehicle charging industry. Since the opening of our first station in 2018, we have been installing 150 kW and 350 kW chargers. In 2020 we completed the first cross-country routes from Los Angeles to Washington D.C, Jacksonville to San Diego, and North-south routes from California to Washington and Florida to Maine. In the same year, Electrify America was the first open network to be Plug & Charge enabled, allowing customers with eligible vehicles to seamlessly charge their vehicles.

In 2023, we opened Electrify America Solar Glow™1, a 75-Megawatt solar photovoltaic renewable energy project in San Bernardino County, California, to help reduce our carbon footprint and offset the charging energy delivered through our network.

Most recently, in February, we opened our first indoor 20-charger flagship charging station in San Francisco, CA, with amenities like temperature-controlled lounges, vending machines, restrooms, and free Wi-Fi.

In six short years, hundreds of thousands of EV owners have come to rely on successful hyper-fast charging experiences at Electrify America stations each week. We cannot discuss future plans, but we have announced that our evolving approach is for intentional station placement that shifts to larger capacity new stations with 10 or more chargers and expanding existing stations where we can, especially in metro areas with growing demand for Hyper-Fast charging.

The 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre marks a monumental shift in the automotive landscape as the world’s first ultra-luxury electric super coupé. This groundbreaking vehicle introduces Rolls-Royce’s bold new all-electric future, maintaining the brand’s reputation for excellence without any compromises.

The Spectre prioritizes being a RollsRoyce first and an electric vehicle second, ensuring that interior space, comfort, performance, and ride quality meet the marque’s high standards. Its generously proportioned, visually striking two-door fastback design embodies elegance and modernity, making it the spiritual successor to the illustrious Phantom Coupé. The intimate interior offers an ideal canvas for Bespoke personalization, featuring a unique illuminated fascia and the first-ever Starlight Doors in a production Rolls-Royce.

The Spectre appeals to a new generation of Rolls-Royce clients who appreciate fine materials, craftsmanship, and minimalist design. These clients are often younger, self-made, and self-confident individuals who value sustainability, authenticity, and longevity. As one of the world’s most desirable luxury goods, the Spectre reflects the individual personalities and achievements of those who commission it, symbolizing their success and forward-thinking values.

The new era in super-luxury motoring

The introduction of the Spectre marks the beginning of Rolls-Royce 3.0, a new era in super-luxury motoring characterized by a fully electric powertrain and Decentralized Intelligence. The first Goodwood-era Rolls-Royce, launched in 2003, was the Phantom, which introduced the Bespoke architecture, known as Rolls-Royce 1.0.

This was followed by Rolls-Royce 2.0 with the ‘Architecture of Luxury,’ an all-aluminum spaceframe that also supports the Cullinan and Ghost models. Spectre’s fully electric powertrain is built on this versatile platform, showcasing the marque’s commitment to an uncompromised electric future.

The Spectre is equipped with two Separately Excited Synchronous Motors (SSMs), delivering impressive performance. The front motor produces 190 kW / 365 Nm, while the rear motor generates 360 kW / 710 Nm, resulting in a combined 430 kW (584 hp) and 900 Nm of torque. This powertrain allows the Spectre to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. The confirmed range of 530 km (329 miles) WLTP meets and exceeds the requirements of Rolls-Royce clients, who typically have an average of seven cars in their garage and drive an average of 5,100 km per year in their current Rolls-Royce vehicles.

A Rolls-Royce first and an electric car second, Spectre has been boldly conceived, meticulously engineered, exhaustively tested and spectacularly realized.

The Spectre’s charging capabilities are equally impressive, with a charge time from 10-80% in just 34 minutes using a 195 kW (DC) fast charger. This setup provides sufficient charge for 100 km in around nine minutes, ensuring the car is always ready for the next journey.

The Spectre features a 102-kWh lithium-ion battery, produced using cobalt and lithium from strictly controlled sources in Australia, Morocco, and Argentina. The battery cells are manufactured with 100% green electricity. This extensive testing in extreme temperatures, ranging from -40oC to +50oC, ensures the Spectre’s on-board thermal management system maintains optimal operating conditions at all times.

Digital Engineering

The Spectre is the most connected Rolls-Royce in history, with three times as many sender-receiver signals as any previous model. Engineers describe it as ‘Rolls-Royce in ultra-high definition’ due to the speed and accuracy of its responses to road and weather conditions. Each of the car’s thousands of drivetrain and chassis characteristics were meticulously tested and refined during its 2.5-millionkilometre testing program.

Through a software architecture known as Decentralized Intelligence, data is processed closer to its source rather than by a single central processing unit. Each of

the 141,200 sender-receiver variables has its dedicated handmade control, with several sub-variables accounting for variations in climate, ground speed, road type, vehicle status, and driving style. This system enables the car to respond more quickly to driver inputs and changing road conditions, ensuring a superior driving experience.

The interior: a masterpiece of luxury

The interior of the 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre is a masterpiece of luxury and advanced technology. For the first time in a series production Rolls-Royce, Starlight Doors incorporate 4,796 softly illuminated ‘stars,’ creating a celestial atmosphere. Customers can also choose from a backdrop of Canadel panelling, handcrafted from a range of exquisite wood.

The Illuminated Fascia, developed over two years and more than 10,000 collective hours, features the Spectre nameplate surrounded by over 5,500 stars. These illuminations, located on the passenger side of the dashboard, remain invisible when the car is not in operation. The all-new front seat design, inspired by British tailoring, includes lapel sections

that can be rendered in contrasting or matching colors to the main base, offering a personalized touch.

As with all Rolls-Royce vehicles, the Spectre’s interior suite offers near-infinite Bespoke possibilities, allowing clients to customize every detail to their liking. This personalization ensures that each Spectre is a unique reflection of its owner’s tastes and preferences.

The Spirit of ecstasy figurine

Spectre’s design draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including haute couture, modernist sculpture, nautical design, tailoring, and contemporary art. The clarity and precision of line and intelligent use of reflection in modern racing yacht styling are particularly evident in the Spectre’s exterior design.

The Pantheon grille, the widest ever fitted to a Rolls-Royce, is illuminated by 22 LEDs that light up the sandblasted rear surface, creating a subtle threedimensional signature at night. The Spirit of Ecstasy figurine, redesigned for the Spectre, has a lower stance and more aerodynamic profile, contributing to the car’s drag coefficient of just 0.25 cd,

making it the most aerodynamic RollsRoyce ever built.

The split headlights, a signature Rolls-Royce feature, visually reference the Phantom Coupé, connecting the Spectre to its illustrious forebear. The sharp, vertical bow line draws the eye rearward to the fastback, inspired by both classic motor cars and racing yachts. This seamless roofline significantly enhances Spectre’s exceptional aerodynamics.

The lower ‘waft line’ visually represents the fabled Rolls-Royce ‘magic carpet ride.’ The coachwork gently tucks into the sill, creating a sense of motion by reflecting the road passing beneath it, much like the hull of a racing yacht reflects the water it cuts through. The tail lamps are set into the largest single body panel ever produced for a Rolls-Royce, which extends from the A-pillar to the luggage compartment. To accommodate various Bespoke exterior color commissions, the rear lamps are colorless for neutrality.

For the first time in nearly 100 years, a production Rolls-Royce two-door coupé, the Spectre, is equipped with 23-inch wheels, perfectly matching its generous proportions.

RIVIAN REDESIGNS ALL-ELECTRIC R1 PICKUPS AND SUVS, AND IMPROVES PERFORMANCE

One of the most notable improvements in the new models is their enhanced computing power.

Rivian Automotive has unveiled its redesigned all-electric R1 pickup and SUV models, marking a significant upgrade in range, performance, and computing power, thanks to the integration of Nvidia chips. While the exterior of the 2025 modelyear vehicles may not appear drastically different from the current models, the internal transformations are substantial. Rivian has overhauled more than half of the hardware components, including reengineering the batteries and electrical architectures, which are often considered the “brains” of a vehicle.

“We continue to evolve our flagship R1 vehicles, offering quality and performance without compromise. Our revamped R1S and R1T push the technical boundaries further, creating our most capable products to date,” stated RJ Scaringe, Rivian’s CEO and founder.

Major Upgrades in Computing Power

One of the most notable improvements in the new models is their enhanced computing power. Rivian claims that the new system delivers ten times more performance than the previous one. This upgrade is facilitated by dual Nvidia DRIVE Orin processors, which power the “Autonomy Compute Module.” This module includes driver-assistant features, and Rivian has announced that a “premium version” of the system will be available. This premium system will offer a broader set of capabilities, including hands-free driving for periods of time, although drivers will still need to remain attentive to the road.

These advancements are part of Rivian’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive technology. The use of Nvidia’s powerful processors ensures that the R1 models can handle complex computations required for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and other high-tech features. This integration of cutting-edge technology

not only improves safety but also enhances the overall driving experience.

Battery and Electrical Architecture Overhaul

The redesigned R1 models also feature significant changes to their batteries and electrical architectures. These updates are crucial for improving the vehicles’ range and performance. The updated battery packs will continue to use a “2170 cylindrical cell,” but the pack enclosure now features large high-pressure die castings. This change simplifies manufacturing and reduces the mass of the vehicles, leading to better efficiency and potentially lower production costs.

The improved battery technology translates to longer driving ranges, which is a critical factor for electric vehicle (EV) owners. Rivian offers three battery pack options: Standard, Large, and Max, with top ranges of 270 miles, 330 miles, and 420 miles, respectively. These options provide flexibility for consumers, allowing them to choose a model that best suits their driving needs.

Enhanced Performance and Driving Dynamics

Rivian’s commitment to performance is evident in the updates to the R1 models. The tri- and quad-motor vehicles will include new Rivian-made drive units. The top-end quad-motor will now deliver up to 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 poundfoot of torque when using Launch Mode, achieving 0 to 60 mph acceleration in just 2.5 seconds. This is a significant increase from the previous 835 horsepower and 908 pound-foot of torque.

These enhancements make the R1 models some of the most powerful and quickest EVs on the market. The combination of high-performance motors and advanced battery technology ensures

that the R1 models can deliver thrilling acceleration and robust driving dynamics, whether on city streets or off-road trails.

Market Position and Future Plans

The updates to Rivian’s current products come as the automaker aims to boost sales of its flagship models ahead of the launch of the less-expensive “R2” models. These R2 models are expected to start at around $45,000 and begin shipping in the first half of 2026. The introduction of lower-priced vehicles is crucial for Rivian’s expansion, especially as sales of its current models have slowed amidst a sluggish industry-wide pace for electric vehicle sales.

Financial Performance and Stock Market Impact

Despite these efforts, Rivian’s stock has been under pressure. The automaker continues to burn through cash and report significant losses, including a loss of $1.45 billion in the first quarter of this year. Its shares have dropped roughly 50% year-todate. This financial performance highlights the challenges Rivian faces as it strives to establish itself in the competitive EV market. However, Rivian remains optimistic about its future. The enhancements to the R1 models and the upcoming launch of the R2 models are expected to drive growth and improve financial performance. The company’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction positions it well for long-term success. Fuente: CNBC Pics: RIVIAN

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE U.S.

S64% of Americans live within 2 miles of a public charging station, and those who live closest to chargers view EVs more positively.

everal recent laws, including the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, have sought to encourage the development of electric vehicle infrastructure and increase the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).

A Pew Research Center survey paired with an analysis of U.S. Department of Energy data finds that roughly six-inten Americans now live within 2 miles of a public charger. There were over 61,000 publicly accessible electric vehicle charging stations in the United States as of February 2024.

The vast majority of EV charging occurs at home, but access to public infrastructure is tightly linked with Americans’ opinions of electric vehicles themselves. Our analysis finds that Americans who live close to public chargers view EVs more positively than those who are farther away.

Even when accounting for factors like partisan identification and community type, Americans who live close to EV chargers are more likely to say they:

• Already own an electric or hybrid vehicle

• Would consider buying an EV for their next vehicle

• Favor phasing out production of new gasoline cars and trucks by 2035

• Are confident that the U.S. will build the necessary infrastructure to support large numbers of EVs on the roads

Distribution of EV charging stations in the U.S.

As of Feb. 27, 2024, there are more than 61,000 publicly accessible electric vehicle charging stations with Level 2 or DC Fast chargers in the U.S.1 That is a more than twofold increase from roughly 29,000 stations in 2020. For reference, there are an estimated 145,000 gasoline fueling stations in the country.

EV charging stations can be found in two-thirds of all U.S. counties, which collectively include 95% of the country’s population.

Distribution by state

As has been the case in the past, California has the most EV charging infrastructure of any state. The state is home to a quarter of all public EV charging stations in the U.S., though this represents a slight decrease from the last time we analyzed this data source in May 2021. At that time, California contained 31% of all public EV charging stations in the U.S.

Californians with an EV might also have a harder time than residents of many states when it comes to the actual experience of finding and using a charger. Despite having the most charging stations of any state, California’s 43,780 individual public charging ports must provide service for

the more than 1.2 million electric vehicles registered to its residents. That works out to one public port for every 29 EVs, a ratio that ranks California 49th across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

At the other end of the spectrum, Wyoming (one-to-six), North Dakota (one-to-six) and West Virginia (one-toeight) have the most ports relative to the much smaller number of EVs registered in their respective states.

Infrastructure growth in rural areas

Historically, rural parts of the country have had substantially less access to EV charging stations. Addressing that issue has been a focus of recent legislation passed into law. For instance, the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) contains tax credits designed to incentivize the installation of EV charging stations outside urban areas.

Since the IRA’s tax credits became active, the number of EV charging stations nationwide has increased 29%. But rural parts of the U.S. have a slightly faster growth rate in their total number of charging stations when compared with urban areas (34% vs. 29%).2 Even so, access to public EV charging remains heavily concentrated in urban areas, which account for nearly 90% of all stations in the U.S. as of Feb. 27, 2024.

Who lives closest to EV charging stations?

Most Americans now live in a county with at least one public EV charging station, but some live closer to this infrastructure than others: 39% of Americans live within a mile of a public charging station, and 64% have a charging station within 2 miles of home.

Americans who live in cities are especially likely to have a public charging station very close to their home. Six-in-ten urban residents live within a mile of a public charger, compared with 41% of suburbanites and just 17% of rural Americans.

Because of this distribution, those who live closest to EV charging infrastructure tend to share the demographic characteristics of urban residents more broadly. For instance, they tend to be relatively young and are more likely to have a college degree than those in other community types.
