A Weekend Bungalow , Panchgani

Program: A weekend bungalow for a software engineer ‘s family ;refreshing place set in nature that gives them a break from hectic monotonous life. Site: In small hill station, Panchgani (150 km from Mumbai).The site had the view of valley on one side. Design approach: Circular form was chosen to provide max. view and to get nature into house. The roof of the bungalow is designed so that the bungalow merges with the ground.

Roadside Elevation Detail of the bandstand A bandstand was designed as a part of the landscape in the bungalow. It follwed the slope lihe the form of the bungalow , in a stepped manner.

Educational trip to Himachal Pradesh This study focuses at understanding the architecture as the relation of built and open spaces. The focus of the study was on open spaces around the building and understanding the impact of it on architecture. The aim was to study and analyze the settlement, and urban, town level or village level open space and built structure in its Context.

Program: 120 room business hotel set in an IT area ; housing conference and banquet facilities . The main aim was to handle design along with the integration of the functions, structure and services. Site: At Hingewadi area, the IT park in Pune with the proximity of Cognizant Technologies , Infosys , Tata Technologies and other IT allied structures.
Design ApproachPlanning – Doubly loaded corridor. Half the rooms have an external view and the other half look into the atrium. Core is located in the centre and the rooms are connected to it through bridges.

Circular form is chosen so that more rooms can be placed on the side of view. Consolidating the building making the circular form stronger.

Program: The project was to design a housing society (170 tenements) for the people belonging to the High Income Group in the city. Site: The site was located outskirts of the Pune city and the locality is self sufficient within the range of 1 km. Site area -27,600 sq.m Built up area -24,288sq.m

Open Space Design Approach: As designing was mainly for the high income class, the major things to be taken care of was privacy, ambience, calmness, quietness which they need the most.

To achieve this, the concept of sky courts is used and a linear way of planning is adopted for the apartments.

Site: The site was located in outskirts of Jaipur city, surrounded by Aravalli hills , near Mansagar lake. Total Site Area: 55,065sq.m(13.6 acres) Total Built up area: 13,300 sq m.
•Building – FREE FORM •FOLLOWING THE FLUIDITY OF THE NATURAL FORMS AROUND. •PLACING THE BUIDING IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT GETS MAXIMUM VIEW OF THE SURROUNDINGS.

Conceptual Sketch
CLIMATE COMPATIABILITY •Site , being in Jaipur , experiences extreme climate – VERY HOT SUMMERS & EXTREME COLD WINTERS. •In case of clubs , outdoor spaces are equally important as the indoor ones and outdoor spaces requires protection from sun, so that they can be used even during day time. •Creating a “HUGE FORT WALL” in the site and placing the entire building along it ,to create protective zones in the site.

Revitalization of Pune City Core
G-Sen Trophy NASA,2007
Program: The competition brief was to identify and redesign a place in an urban setting that has undergone fractional increments and has lost its essence over a period of time. Area Selection: Pune city core was selected and tulshibaug-mandaivishrambaugwada precinct was studied for the same.
Lost Essence Of Pune City Core:
Redesign: The redesign mainly concentrated in the following areas• Pedestrianization of the Tulshi baug – Mandai road. • Building elevation along the pedestrianised road were redesigned as per the morphology which was there 50 years ago. •Re-design of the Tulshi baug temple complex. •Re-design of Mandai building.

Machia Biological Park, Jodhpur Program: The project was to design a satellite biological park , having animal enclosures, interpretation centers, administrative areas, quarantine centers. Site: The site for the project was an undulating rocky terrain in outskirts of the Jodhpur city , near Kaylana lake. Site area – 35 hectares. Design Concept: The concept is based on the fact that the climate of Jodhpur is very hot & dry with very little of rainfall. Since the site is situated to the Kaylana Lake, the water is proposed to be drawn from the lake. The biological park is designed in around 35 hectares of land housing around 21 species of animals in different enclosures. The enclosures are so placed so that the visitor has a continuous and a very good experience during a complete tour of the park with various kinds of natural trails and activities in around 1500 M long visitor pathway.

Project: Documentation and restoration proposal development of ,250 year old Rajput style, palatial residence. Total Site Area -455400 sq. ft Ground Coverage -10398sq.ft Total Built Up Area -21851 sq.ft Proposal: The entire building complex is proposed to be converted in a ‘Heritage Hotel’ of 27 rooms. The existing structure has many rooms that open in the inner courts. These rooms will be combined and will be converted into hotel rooms with attached toilets.. The haveli complex has seven courts and these courts are proposed to be developed using traditional landscape concepts.

Students work,2009
Along with the students of architecture college, I coordinated the project of documentation of Cenotaphs at Gaitore, Jaipur, as a project of archeological and conservation department of Rajasthan. The ten days of documentation camp has not only added to my professional experience but also amplified my architectural knowledge.
