Water Babies
Lifeguard Training – Blended Learning
Water Babies is a swim program for babies age six months to three years, with Mom and/or Dad. The program stresses water safety knowledge and practice, aquatic adjustment and swimming readiness skills, fun in the water, participation, socialization, and parental involvement. (Sorry, no changes after registration.) Ages: Children ages 6 mos. to 3 years Where: Aurora Community Pool When: Tuesday and Thursday, June 28 - Aug. 4 Time: 12:30-12:55 p.m. Fees: $38 resident, $48 non-resident
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is the certification required to become a lifeguard for the Aurora Community Pool. Lifeguard training includes CPR, AED, and First Aid. The class is in person training for approximately 20 hours and online for 7.5 hours. Prerequisites: A physical fitness test is required before a candidate is able to take this class. (If you are not sure you qualify please call Chris Musshafen at 652-8866). Check aurorarec.com for details. Preschool Swim
For children 3 & 4 years of age without the parent. Children will learn proper water entry and exit, underwater exploration, back float position, back glide, arm movement, prone glide, water safety and more. Red Cross preschool aquatic skills are taught by American Red Cross Certified Water Safety instructors and aides. Enrollment in each half-hour class will be limited, keeping the instructor/student ratio at 1:6. (Sorry, no changes after registration.) Youth Programs Hamlin Park Day Camp
A safe place for children ages 5-12 to make new friends. Children must be 5 years old by Jan. 1, 2016 to participate. We will be having FUN, FUN, FUN! Look what our 2016 camp has to offer: beautiful Fisher-Price playground, basketball, volleyball, softball, floor hockey, soccer, kickball, wacky Olympics, mumball, 4 square, horseshoes, flag football, scooter races, scavenger hunts, capture the flag, board games, walk to Community Pool for a swim, arts & crafts, exciting field trips and more! Different activities are planned throughout the day, every weekday, and every week has a fun theme, such as “Buggin Out”, “The Outback”, “Be A Star”, “2016 Summer Olympics”, “Myth Busters”, "Out of this World” & “Carnival Fun”. Our field trips include; Hawk Creek, Earth Spirit, Fantasy Island, Bison’s Game, Old Fort Niagara, Buffalo/Niagara Heritage Village & Erie County Fair. Every camper receives a T-shirt. STAR in the Park
STAR is formal theater instruction for boys and girls ages 8-13 in an informal, relaxed atmosphere, including acting, set and costume design, movement, and vocal technique. Sessions will begin with the basics and work up to a final production at Hamlin Park. Students must attend all classes, except for illness. Children will develop their general motor and athletic skills on a 36’ court; focus on coordination, movement and balance, sending and receiving skills. Games are an important part of the program so they will be exposed to games that are both fun and tennis related.
Children will be exposed to a full range of technical/tactical development. All court tennis will be emphasized. The program will focus on drills that develop movement, recovery and decision making skills. Situational and competitive play in the 5 play situations will be planned in the curriculum. This is the final developmental stage before the children enter the Junior Competitive Program. Team shirt included.
Beginner Ages 5-7
A program of movement, balance, coordinated and motor skill development with a focus on self and partner rallying skills on a 36’ court. Reception and projection activities will be emphasized. Children learn the first stages of cooperative tennis, how to initiate a rally, move and judge a ball, how to control the racquet at contact point and control height, direction and depth.
JV/Intermediate Ages 12-18
Learn to rally and play is the theme of each class. The students will be exposed to all the basic skills of tennis including ground strokes, volleys, overheads and serves. The class will stress cooperation and competition in many of the drills and play situations. Matches with other towns, players will provide their own transportation, Team shirt included.
Advanced Beginner Ages 6-8
Program Notes:
Children continue to learn the previous skills on a 36’ court, and at the end of this program, they should have gained an understanding of how to swing the racquet in order to serve, be able to move their opponent with intention by controlling the direction of the ball, begin using a full or abbreviated serving motion, know how to move effectively to ensure good position and balance. They will begin to compete in 8 and under play.

Children will learn the basics of tactical play as they transition to a 60’ court in both singles and doubles. Swing rhythm on the forehands and backhands will be emphasized. They will learn how to differentiate between a volley action and a ground stroke action. A variety of serve progressions will be taught and the serve and return of serve will be covered in each class.
Advanced Intermediate Ages 8-12
Children will experience the 5 play situations on the 60’ court and will refine their tactical/technical skills. Concepts of offense/defense will be introduced in both singles and doubles. Ball control exercises that enhance consistency, direction, depth and spin will be stressed. A variety of adaptive skills will be trained using dead ball drills, live ball drills and competitive play situations in all areas of the court. Team shirt included.

Going Places Van The Going Places van is a service of the Department of Senior Services for older adults living in the towns of Aurora and Elma. It is a curb-to-curb van service that is available to seniors who are unable to drive themselves. The van is NOT handicap-accessible. Reservations of health-related trips may be scheduled up to two months in advance. Please schedule your medical appointments between 9am and 3pm.
