Lynn Kinsella, Owner The Aurora Theatre and The Aurora Popcorn Shop 673 Main Street, East Aurora 652-1660 www.theauroratheatre.com www.aurorapopcornshop.com This past December marked the fifth anniversary of Lynn Kinsella owning and operating The Aurora Theatre. At the end of 2015 the theatre was able to claim the distinction of being the largest grossing single-screen theatre in Western and Central New York. Over the past five years, The Aurora Theatre has seen many exciting changes including conversion to digital projection, a new screen, the re-opening of its original concession stand and a movement to bring the newest films when they open to East Aurora. Through Lynn’s efforts and the support of local sponsors, the theatre has also been able to offer free family films during the summer, on school holidays and “Hollywood Holidays” which features a wonderful holiday exhibit and free showings of classic holiday films every weekend. The theatre also sponsors several local organizations including the East Aurora Boys & Girls Club and the “Rising Star” reading program at Parkdale Elementary. September 2015 also marked the opening of a new business to Main Street, within the theatre lobby - The Aurora Popcorn Shop. All popcorn, which is made in-house, can be purchased by the bag or by the tin and includes caramel corn, cheddar corn and specialty popcorns such as the very popular apple pie and buffalo chicken wing. Whether it is offering local theatre goers a delicious selection of specialty popcorn, to satisfying the most discriminating gourmet popcorn connoisseurs, to providing just the right gift idea, Lynn’s new venture has certainly put a “pop” into the local Main Street business. In addition to the Theatre, Lynn is very active in East Aurora. She assists with the marketing of The Roycroft Inn, The Friends of Knox Farm State Park and is an active member of the At EA group. She and her husband Paul, co-owner of both businesses, have resided in the Village of East Aurora for over 20 years. Karen and Ashley have always dreamed of one day being able to share and express their passion for art, creativity and fashion in a positive and inspirational light as part of a supportive close knit community. In 2013 Ashley was selling her hand-painted artwork and handcrafted jewelry at an event when she met Crista, then owner and founder of OooLaLa Boutique. Crista hired Ashley on the spot to paint floor to ceiling murals in the dressing rooms. From the first day Ashley walked through the door of OooLaLa, she fell in love with the boutique. When the time came for Crista to move forward, Karen and Ashley knew this was it! In the Fall of 2015 their dream came true. Karen and Ashley decided to team up not only as partners but as sisters, to bring their creative style and love for travel to the boutique where women come to not only shop but also to be inspired. Karen is a hardworking mother of twin boys Nick and Jake. Ashley is married to Mark (Karen’s younger brother) and they spend their free time hiking with their dog Kingston.

Hours at Ashwood Artisans are random or by appointment. Owner Suzanne Sprague began teaching at East Aurora Music Center and Nyharts Music in 1984, and took ownership of the store, renaming it in 1987. Limelite Music has served the community with lessons, rentals, sheet music, books, accessories and instruments. Through the years, the music industry has changed and the store, while staying traditional, now does much more with social media and reaching out to customers all over the world, helping to find them the perfect instrument. She also teaches an adult ed guitar class through the East Aurora Continuing Education program. Service is of the utmost importance to the store, what the internet can not always provide- a familiar face can. A few years ago, Limelite University was created. This program gives each one of the 200- plus students taking lessons at the store the opportunity to be part of the band experience. With professional coaching and rehearsal, the students play at local clubs and events. The last three years, adult students got in on the fun as well and performed at all the events. Limelite Music now sells new and used vinyl- a business that has recently seen renewed interest. Their inventory is growing and appeals to musicians as well as music lovers. Suzanne is a lifetime resident of the Town of Aurora and holds a BA in music from SUNY at Buffalo, specializing in classic guitar. She enjoys caring for, training and showing her quarter horses, traveling to horse shows in the northeast and Canada when time permits. Alex Strazzella, Owner/Pastry Chef Blue Eyed Baker www.blueeyedbaker.net Email: blueeyedbakerr@gmail.com Instagram: @blue.eyed.baker Alex Strazzella has been devoted to baking beautiful desserts since she was young. Growing up in an Italian family meant there was never a shortage of delicious food, and of course, all made from scratch. Her grandmother & mother taught her the importance of baking from scratch at a young age, teaching her the basics. During college, one professor even carved out syllabus time on Fridays for the class to enjoy her delicious cookies, earning her an A. While living in Los Angeles, she attended pastry school taught by some amazing pastry chefs and was instilled with values of good ingredients and European methods. After years of exploring new baking & pastry books, experimenting with new recipes, and attending pastry school and classes, she decided to leave her 5-year corporate career to pursue her true passion. Alex and her fiancé, Nick Robinson, moved back to East Aurora to start her business, as she couldn’t imagine doing it anywhere else. They are going to Italy & France in May to continue her pastry education, with their wedding to follow in July. The Blue Eyed Baker’s main focus is taste, and everything is made from scratch, from graham crackers to caramel. She makes fresh european buttercream and doesn’t believe in using corn syrup or shortening. She has a unique and fresh perspective on design and display, including fresh flower cakes & wedding cakes, and customized dessert bars for weddings and parties. With her most notable and popular item being french macarons, these small & colorful confections have people talking.

Beverly Vidler, President 3rd Generation Vidler’s 5&10 676-674 Main Street, East Aurora - 652-0481 - Open 7 Days A Week! www.Vidler’s5and10.com Vidler’s 5&10 was founded in 1930 by Beverly’s Grandfather, Robert S. Vidler Sr. The second generation were Robert’s two sons Ed (Beverly’s Father) and Bob. They ran the store for more than 50 years until they retired. Now the third generation is running the store and includes Beverly, her brother Don, and cousin Cliff DeFlyer. “Each generation has taken the store to the next level, and we are very proud and thankful for all the years our family has devoted to the store” said Beverly. Today Vidler’s 5&10 is 20 times bigger than the original 5&10 and occupies four connected buildings on East Aurora’s historic Main Street. The store is known both for its size and the incredible variety of merchandise including toys, a fabulous selection of old time candies, lots of general merchandise, hard to find items, office and school supplies, cards, candles, bath and body products, gifts, home décor, jewelry, pet items, garden décor and birding supplies, an awesome housewares and kitchen gadgets department, crafts, fabrics, sewing notions and even a year round Christmas Shop! In 2013 and 2014 Vidler’s was voted “The Most Fun Place to Shop in Western New York” by Buffalo Spree magazine. The store offers a unique shopping experience, brings back fond memories and is also a form of entertainment. A player piano, 10 cent bag of popcorn and Sandy the mechanical pony add to the charm! It is a great place to bring out of town guests. A colossal statue of Ed Vidler, a.k.a. “The Vidler on the Roof”, sits atop the building and reflects the fun atmosphere inside the store. Beverly says “We love East Aurora and are very grateful to the community for supporting us all through the years. This June, the store will celebrate our 86th anniversary! It’s a wonderful life!” Page 20
