Islip Food For Hope Helps To Make The Season Bright!
Nearly 1,000 turkeys and more than 1,000 "Boxes of Love" were distributed at Casamento Park in West Islip, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Islip Food for Hope President, Ed Fraser came together with Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Islip Chamber of Commerce President Liz Mayott, and volunteers to distribute turkeys, side dishes and pies to local organizations that support residents affected by
food insecurity.
The annual "Town of Islip Supervisor's Breakfast" fundraising effort brings together local businesses, community groups, and Town of Islip employees whose donations make the purchase of turkeys and boxes of love possible. This year, Islip Food for Hope broke its record, providing nearly 1,000 turkeys and more than 1,000 boxes of love.
"We are truly blessed
by people's generosity. Each year, we provide a Thanksgiving meal for more and more people affected by food insecurity. On behalf of the members of the Islip Town Board, we wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving holiday," said Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter.

Four Steps To Finishing Strong In 2024
By JoAnn Cilla
By the time you read this, there will be less than 30 days left in the year, and you will probably be in full execution mode for holiday shopping and wrapping up 2024 in your business. In other words, it’s the perfect time to review your wins and losses for the year while preparing for an even better year in 2025! Whether you’re a business owner or a resident who invests time in your community, you want to do everything you can to end the year on a high note. Here are four steps to help you do just that.
1) Celebrate Your Wins
- Take a moment to recognize what went right this year. Did you reach a personal milestone? Did you grow your business? Strengthen a relationship or contribute to your community? No success is too small to celebrate. Also, share your achievements with anyone who helped you this year. Acknowledging wins can boost your confidence going into 2025 while inspiring those around you.
2) Learn From Your Losses
- While celebrating is important, so is reflecting on what didn’t go as planned. Challenges and setbacks provide some of the best learning opportunities. Ask yourself: What could I have done differently? What can I take away from this experience to improve in 2025? Remember, losses only hold you back if you don’t learn from them.
3) Embrace the Holiday Season - After a year of hard work, give yourself permission to recharge. Spend time with loved ones, enjoy holiday traditions, and let the season renew your energy. This downtime is essential for maintaining balance and starting the new year refreshed.
JOANN CILLA
4) Plan for a Strong Start to 2025 - Use the insights from your wins
and losses to set clear, actionable goals for the new year. Whether it’s launching a new project, refining a strategy, or simply prioritizing time for what matters most, make sure you’re mentally and physically ready to hit the ground running on January 1st. Thanks for taking time to read my articles this year. I hope they’ve helped you in some way. I wish you a happy and joyous holiday season and all the best for a successful new year!

Giving Back And Spreading Joy To Hospitalized Children
The Toy Drive That Has Become A Deer Park Tradition
The holiday will be brighter for children at Cohen Children’s Medical Center thanks to the third annual collaboration between Mangano Family Funeral Homes and the Deer Park Fire Department.
Mangano Family Funeral Homes owner Sal Mangano says “This effort began 3 years ago and was spearheaded by Joseph Baggio, a local young man who is a cancer survivor. He is former patient at Cohen who was looking to ‘Pay it forward’. We are proud to partner with him.”
Cohen Children’s Medical Center provides the very best care to meet the special needs of sick children ranging in age from premature babies to
adolescents. The 206-bed hospital opened in 1983 as the NY Metro area’s only hospital exclusively for children. Today, they are the largest provider of pediatric healthcare services in NY State.
This year as an added incentive to donate, Family Florist of Deer Park is giving $10 gift cards to anyone who donates a toy at Mangano Family Funeral Home drop off location to support this year’s drive.

The Meaning Of The Menorah
Udall Road Middle School in the West Islip Union Free School District honored local veterans with a
in the school’s cafeteria on Nov. 12. Veterans who had a connection to the school’s students were invited to
celebrated for their service.
Udall Road Middle School Principal Dr. Daniel Marquardt welcomed
Menorahs are a prominent symbol of Chanukah. Menorahs are seven-branched candelabras that have been used in Jewish worship since ancient times. The seven branches refer to the seven days of creation. The menorah is the traditional symbol of Judaism and the emblem of the state of Israel. For Chanukah, a ninebranched candelabra called a hanukkiah is used, but the word "menorah" has become interchangeable. The Chanukah menorah consists of nine candles. The center and ninth candle are referred to as the Shamash. It is used to light all the other candles. The Shamash is raised above the other candles to make it kosher. The lighting of the menorah over the eight days of Chanukah symbolizes the miracle that occurred during the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean revolt. The sacred oil, of which there was only enough for one day's lighting, miraculously lasted for eight days.
