Welcome
The holidays are here and it’s time to shop for gifts. When you know what you’re looking for, it’s easy to shop online. But there’s still something magical about getting out and exploring for those special gifts for the special people in your life. We had a great time choosing local shops with an incredible assortment of unique gift ideas combined with the feel, sounds, smells of Christmas that you’ll never find in front of your computer. Once again, Alex Claney (Alex Claney Studios) spent many studio hours creating the magical photos of products that grace the pages starting on page 6. This year we chose a snow white background with delicate Origami snowflakes to highlight and accent the colorful gift assortment. Each gift is a special treasure from the stores that participated. Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles and Glen Ellyn are represented. Some of the stores you will know, some may be new to you. All are worth visiting: Artemisia, Gnome Colony, Peaceful Parlour, State Street Jewelers, Tea Tree, Harvey’s Tales, Jori & June, Little Traveler, Schingoethe Center, Villa & Farm, Evernia, Funway, Chic Boutique, Alpaca to Apparel, Fine Line Creative, Scentcerely Yours, and Royal Wren. And be sure to add Dangles for Women, Flourish, Falmouth, Little Red Barn and Houndstooth & Plaid (for gift wrapping). Store locations are listed on page 24. We are humbled that arts venues are choosing TriCities Magazine to promote their holiday performances: Paramount Theatre, Wizard of OZ; Schingoethe Center, Joel Sheeley exhibit; Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Sounds of the Season and The Nutcracker at Batavia Fine Arts Centre, Fox Valley Ballet. We close with one other special recommendation…Winterfest Art Market. For the first time, over 40 artists and artisans from our area, are coming together to create a unique holiday shopping event at Waterstreet Studios, Batavia, Dec. 14–16. See page 29 for details. So, put aside some time this season to “unplug.” Get out and shop around town, enjoy a theatre event, and share the wonders of Christmas with all of your loved ones. May you have a blessed and bountiful holiday season.
