2018

We only play to win. We all have individual ambitions — whether it’s planing for the first time, beating a friend to the buoy or winning a World Championship. Each of us defines our own goals and success but we are all connected by a unifying sense of victory. At NeilPryde, our mission is to inspire you in your own personal achievement, and to provide you with the best equipment to attain it. We understand winning in the water — about combining cutting edge designs with high performance materials. If we can’t find something we need, then we’ll invent it. This year, we usher in a whole new level of performance by reinventing how a sail is made. Take a look, and find your own win — whatever that may be. Like Nothing Else. Leon Jamaer

SAIL TECHNOLOGY

2018 SAIL TECHNOLOGY - POWERFUSE

Overall thickness is progressively reduced all the way down to 4 mil (0.1mm) in areas experiencing lesser loads.

Multiple internal reinforcement layers fused to a thickness of up to 14 mil (0.36mm) support the sail where loads are greatest.

8

WINDSURFING

POWERFUSE CONSTRUCTION Good design isn’t just about what you add. It’s what you take away. In search of aerodynamic perfection and construction simplicity our designers reinvented how a sail is built. Starting from the ground up, we came up with a whole new way to reinforce the sail body by using an innovative material fusion method. Doing away with unnecessary patch reinforcements, seams and stitches, we created the Powerfuse construction: fully integrated, laminated panels of variable thickness that support localised loads and strengthen the sail where it needs it most. These ground-breaking, lightweight panels are purpose engineered for each sail and size with strategically placed load reinforcement through progressive material layering. The result is a dramatic reduction in overall construction complexity and weight, limited stretch under tension, and the strongest and most powerful sail range we have ever made. Powerfuse is like nothing else.

WINDSURFING

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY

Powerfuse is a whole new way to reinforce and lighten the sail body by using an innovative material fusion method. Doing away with unnecessary patch reinforcements, seams and stitches, we created fully integrated, laminated panels of variable thickness that support localised loads and strengthen the sail where it needs it most.

Overlapping body panels create a sleeve for battens, eliminating the need for traditional, separate batten pockets. This saves on unnecessary weight, simplifies construction and creates a fully symmetrical batten cavity, eliminating the tendency of traditional batten pockets to load differently from one tack to another.

ArmourWeb is constructed from full polyester lines at +/-40 degrees, creating an interlaced, woven web for high tear resistance. Available on Fusion / Ryde / Speedster / V8 / Dragonfly.

High-strength rip-stop grid made of high-tenacity ULTRA yarns at +/-40 degrees. This yarn has a similar breaking strength to KevlarTM, but much better UV resistance. Available on Fly / Combat / Atlas / Wizard.

Our custom printing technology allows us to print the films prior to lamination giving us the flexibility to use multi-coloured, custom graphics. The print is of minimal thickness, reducing weight and producing a higher definition of colour. During lamination the printed side is placed on the inside of the film so there is no need to worry about wear. Your sails will forever remain looking bright and fresh.

Double stitching is used on all critical seams on all sails allowing them to endure prolonged exposure to high loads and impacts.

11

2018 SAIL TECHNOLOGY - SAIL FEATURES

SAIL FEATURES TM

Full Kevlar Tape Leech Reinforcement As KevlarTM provides ultimate strength to weight ratio for sail making fibers we chose to use fully woven, adhesive KevlarTM tape around the entire leech and foot parameter. This tape stabilises the shape of the leech and foot by preventing any stretch along these extreme parameter load lines. At the same time it provides perfect stitch holding and prevents sails ripping through. Since KevlarTM is sensitive to UV we take care that any time we use KevlarTM in the sail it is completely covered by other materials in order for it to keep its properties after years of use.

Polyurethane (PU) Moulded Batten End Chafe Protector Protects the ends of the batten pockets from abrasion damage when rigging and de-rigging.

Composite Mini Leech Battens Aerodynamic composite mini battens are sewn directly onto the upper sections of the sail for added stability and durability – without a significant increase in weight.

High Grade Plastic BatCams Positive lock BatCams, allow the rider to precisely tune and set the batten tension. Easy to open when replacing battens or adjusting batten tension.

New PU Foot Piping Compact piping for weight reduction protecting foot edge of the sail from wear.

12

WINDSURFING

New 3D Moulded Head Fairing Protects the top of the sail from abrasion damage. Also includes an easy de-rigging loop.

Visual Trimming System Downhaul the sail until the borderline of the loose leech reaches the “min dot” for low wind condition or “max dot“ for stronger winds. For medium wind range trim between the 2 marks.

Fuse Pockets Overlapping body panels create a sleeve for battens, eliminating the need for traditional, separate batten pockets. This saves on unnecessary weight, simplifies construction and creates a fully symmetrical batten cavity, eliminating the tendency of traditional batten pockets to load differently from one tack to another.

New 3D Moulded Tack Fairing

Boom Position Reference Points To help you remember exactly where you like to have your boom positioned.

Sail Toggle All NeilPryde sails include an elastic loop and sail toggle system for keeping the sail rolled up during storage.

Compact size for easier rolling and weight reduction. Completely encloses all pulleys and base elements. This helps protect the deck of the board from impact damage. Manufactured from heat moulded closed cell foam to offer maximum protection and minimal weight without water absorption. Includes an uphaul hole for a clean attachment of the uphaul rope. Neoprene front piece makes it easy to fold the tack fairing back when threading the downhaul rope through the sail’s tack pulley.

Triple Roller Tack Fitting A solid metal tack fitting in heavy duty construction. Three large nickel plated rollers offering minimal downhaul friction over an extended lifespan.

Tack Mesh Pocket For easy storage of your downhaul line or any other part.

13

2018 SAIL TECHNOLOGY - COMPACT CLEW / SAIL SHAPING

COMPACT CLEW The compact clew improves control of the sail in two ways: reduced boom length and improved sail twist. It comes in three different configurations depending on sail types and characteristics.

WAVE / FREESTYLE / CROSS-OVER Moderate Compact Clew for a compact outline with rider focused surface area and improved sail twist.

FREERIDE With the Dynamic Compact Clew, where the clew is positioned forward from the trailing edge, the profile behind the clew is able to twist off when wind pressure increases. The sail automatically adjusts its shape, preventing the draft from moving back and controlling excess power.

PERFORMANCE FREERIDE, SLALOM AND RACE The new dual boom length options, allows for the rider to adapt the sail’s performance to various conditions. Outer clew position can be used when you are looking for extra power and upwind lift while the inside clew setting provides better power release and control. Those performance adjustments are made possible by the outer position supporting (locking) the lower leech twist for increased power, while the inner position allows the lower leech to twist freely making it release excessive power while locking the draft forward.

14

WINDSURFING

SAIL SHAPING Sail shaping balances the speed and power of a sail with control and handling. Shaping lower down in the sail will produce a little less power but increases manoeuverability. Shaping higher up in the sail creates more drive and low-end power.

In the performance oriented sails this extra power is easy to control due to the profile stability supported by cams and tube-battens. In the manoeuvre and wave oriented sails, low shaping distribution provides uncompromised manoeuverability.

2018 SAIL - THE FLY

THEFLY Down The Line Wave

The Fly is a truly specialized wave-riding sail. The three-batten compact design combined with the new Powerfuse construction and PVC/Dacron lower luff area makes for the lightest, most neutral sail in our range. It totally depowers on the wave and offers great sail control in gusty conditions, allowing you to fully focus on your surfing. Fast, light, soft feeling, compact and maneuverable, the Fly provides aggressive rail-riding turns and velocity down the line. Pure surf.

Features

Designer’s Comment

Cross batten construction allows all three battens to provide the critical leech support while the bottom batten shaping is kept low and forward below the boom area.

New Powerfuse allows us to reduce the weight while increasing the strength in critical sections making The Fly the lightest and, next to Combat HD, the strongest sail in the NeilPryde range. The PVC/ Dacron lower luff area of the sail works as a “suspension” to absorb shock loads present when the sail twists-off in gusts, on chop or when landing jumps. This elastic front section absorbs the shock while at the same time locks the profile distribution to the front. Result is a soft, forgiving sail that is incredibly stable (even when compared to 4 batten sails) that depowers completely on the wave.

Fuse Pocket construction for a fully symmetrical batten cavity. Minimum distance between the clew and the cross batten distributes the load very evenly and prevents the draft to move back as well as keeping the sail stable. Compact outline Distance between the battens on the leech is reduced and crossing batten is even closer to the clew improving handling of the sail. Mini flat leech rod battens for optimum support and smooth finish.

Versatile: Moderate and progressive luff curve for optimum maneuverability, speed and power in both onshore and side-shore conditions.

The new Fuse Pocket construction introduced this season in the wave and freestyle program, allows us to reduce the seam shaping and retain profile stability and power of the Combat 2017. This results in a sail that feels much lighter in the hands, with less back-hand pressure that maintains drive and upwind performance. In parallel, the new Powerfuse allows us to reduce the weight while increasing the strength in critical sections making the Combat stronger than ever.

Fuse Pocket construction for a fully symmetrical batten cavity. Central Moderate Profile for optimum balance between upwind power and stability. Increased shaping in mid and forward body section for consistent drive. Wide Wind Range: A large tuning range, thanks to a stable profile, allows the rider to trim the sail for all conditions. Construction: Available in both clear and HD window. 4 battens configuration on all sizes.

Features Custom laminated clew for optimized strength and load distribution. It features internally laminated Kevlar stripes that distribute the loads in the Clew area. Deep profile in lower body section for controllable power combined with very smooth leech release and open head twist for acceleration and control in the gusts. Moderate sleeve width combining stability and aerodynamic benefits of wide sleeve racing sails with improved handling and reduced weight. 32

Twin Cam design uses cams in critical area to support deepest profile in the boom area without sacrificing rotation. Fully tubular middle and upper sail section reduces the weight and provides optimum profile stability; only foot batten does not use tube in order not to compromise durability in this vulnerable area. Integrated Batten Pocket construction for a fully symmetrical batten cavity.

The V8 gives race like feel and performance thanks to a race inspired luff sleeve and deep powerful profile, while offers the easy handling of a freeride sail. But that’s not all. It actually became our sail of choice when learning, testing and developing our Windfoil program. The profile, supported by 2 small cams that rotates much easier than full size race cams, allows the sail to respond directly to the back hand. The power can be directly controlled like an accelerator on a motorbike.

2018 RS:RACING SAIL - RS:FLIGHT

RS:FLIGHT Foiling / Racing

High performance sail based on RS:RACING design and specifically developed to perform both on Windfoil and Slalom boards. The RS:FLIGHT is an evolution of the RS:RACING LT1 sail, and is designed on the concept of real world racing combined with key foiling features. Compared to a pure racing sail, the RS:FLIGHT has a higher aspect ratio, shorter boom and increased foot size to accommodate vertical rake when foiling.

The sail delivers quick and precise response instantly allowing the rider to adjust the power by sheeting in or out to control the flying height on the foil. The RS:FLIGHT brings a combination of excellent top-end speed, enhanced bottom-end power, superior control and stability to a wide range of performance minded sailors.

C2

Designer’s Comment The profile is concentrated very far forward to make sure all the pressure is in the front hand area. This allows for acceleration in the gusts while at the same time creates a down-force in the sail. It is this down force that allows the rider to keep sheeted in and transfer more pressure on the foil as the speed increases. On the upwind course, the rider is able to tilt the board to the windward, lean very far forward and use the power of the foil to achieve incredible upwind angle; just on the verge where sail would stall.

2018 RS:RACING SAIL - RACING PROGRAM

40

WINDSURFING

Racing Program We only play to win Over 30 years of domination in slalom and speed events didn’t come easily. It came from the hands and hearts of the best racers in the world, the best designers and top engineers. We know how to bring them all together and make the fastest sails on the planet. And we only ever play to win.

30 years with numerous World, Speed, PWA, Euro Cup and Continental Championship wins to their credit. Think Ken Winner, Pascal Maka, Fred Haywood, Bjorn Dunkerbeck, Anders Bringdal and Antoine Albeau—all legends with numerous world titles and speed records to their name.

Since we started the racing program in early 1980’s, the objective has always been the same: research, development and innovation, with a ‘nocompromise’ approach to designing sails that offer the best possible performance on the race course. The technology, ideas and concepts that are created and refined during the development process for the race sails are ultimately applied to all of the sails in the NeilPryde range.

The RS:RACING sails have been the reference on the racecourse since their introduction, ultimately leading us to future PWA Slalom titles. The RS:RACING design philosophy delivers an unmatched combination of stiffness and flexibility, power and easy handling, low-end drive and the highest max speeds. All made possible through years of development, countless hours of testing and some voodoo sail magic from designer Robert Stroj and the NeilPryde Dream Factory.

NeilPryde’s race sails have remained the dominant force in windsurf racing for the past

HIGHLIGHTS TWIST SHAPING CONCEPT The twist shaping concept incorporates powerful, forward-oriented lower body profile together with increased twist and profile reduction in the midbody area of the sail. This concept retains power and acceleration while at the same time increases the release in the lower leech area. As a result, the

new EVO9 rig can be sailed with more rake angle, increasing lift on the fin and improving top-end acceleration and speed. At the same time head twist is controlled in order to keep consistent pressure on the mast foot and prevent the nose of the board from lifting in gusts.

Tip Vortex Reduction Induced drag reduced thanks to unrestricted head batten twist.

RS:RACING EVO8

RS:RACING EVO9

Pronounced Leading Edge Increased leading edge curvature generating constant drive and high acceleration in gusts.

43

2018 RS:RACING SAIL - TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS

HIGHLIGHTS PROGRESSIVE ASPECT RATIO EVO9 features progressive aspect ratios across different sail sizes in order to address the specific functionality. Higher aspect ratio in larger sizes (7.8 and up) increases light wind efficiency and performance of the rig as well as improving maneuverability at the marks by reducing the boom length. Lower aspect ratio in smaller sizes (7.0 and down) helps maintain top-end control and stability by keeping a longer boom and focusing the sail center of effort around the rider area where it is easier to control.

DUAL BOOM LENGTH DYNAMIC COMPACT CLEW The dual boom length options, allows for the rider to adapt the sail’s performance to various conditions.

SEAMLESS LADING EDGE The evolution of component sleeve construction completely eliminates the front seam along the sail leading edge. This increases precision during the assembly process, reduces weight at the leading edge, creates a perfectly clean profile entry and eliminates a weak spot in construction at the exposed leading edge by removing any stitching that could come in contact with the mast.

WINDSURFING

HIGHLIGHTS COMPONENT SLEEVE CONSTRUCTION Combining materials with specific properties in the sleeve allowed us to achieve optimum profile entry stability and elasticity, critical for rotation and light weight. The upper-front section (1) is made from a lightweight woven material that has the necessary elasticity and durability to resist wear from direct mast contact. A low stretch Dyneema™ ArmourWeb section (2) can take high downhaul tension and is critical in stabilising the profile entry, providing smooth bridging between Ultra Cams. Lightweight, ripresistant laminated film/taffeta with Dyneema™ yarns (3) controls the stretch while providing ultimate rip resistance. Bottom part of the sleeve is finished using our Luff Glide material (4) that combines very low friction against the mast (important for smooth rotation) with excellent durability and necessary elasticity in the bottom part.

1

2

3

4

QUADRUPLE LUFF PANEL LAYOUT EVO9 features four continious luff panels that carry most of the sail body shaping. This configuration stabilises the critical section draft position while also providing lightweight yet stretch-resistant way of increasing the film thickness proportional with downhaul load distribution. Continuous panels eliminated horizontal seams crossing the highly loaded leading edge, which increases response of the sail as well as durability. Introduction of this extremely stable leading edge platform that is able to take very high downhaul loads allowed us to integrate Clear Pocket construction in the remaining sail body.

RS:FLIGHT F4 FOIL Leonard da Vinci said: “Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.” Take to the air with the all-new RS:FLIGHT F4 from NeilPryde — an experience like nothing else. The RS:FLIGHT F4 foil is a nocompromise, performance carbon foil designed in collaboration with F4 USA. The RS:FLIGHT F4 is an evolution of the proven F4 windsurf hydrofoil design, already considered as the best wind-foil in the market with unmatched hydrodynamics. The RS:FLIGHT F4 has very stiff construction and low drag allowing the rider to use every gust for acceleration. Up Tilted

Lower lift and less drag at higher speeds. Neutral

Down Tilted

More lift and stability at lower speed.

Smooth Radius Intersection Points between mast and fuselage At the most critical loading stress points (shaft leading and trailing edge-to-fuselage connections), we maintained large radius in the corners. This has a benefit of distributing tremendous compression forces existing in this area while at the same time creating a very smooth shape which minimizes turbulences common to hard edges.

52

This feature minimizes the drag at the end of fuselage and provides a very strong connection through opposing screws countered in tension. There is also +/- 1.5 degree (total 3degree) adjustability available by changing the tension of the front top and bottom screws. Foil is perfectly trimmed for average weight sailor (75-80kg) with tail in neutral position. Heavier sailors, especially with large front wing in light winds or during learning process might prefer slightly more stabilizing force that down tilted rear wing provides. At the same time lighter sailors, especially in strong wind conditions might find a neutral position creates excessive lift and will reduce the differential angle between two wings by tilting the tail slightly up.

WINDSURFING

Single piece mast/fuselage T-construction Construction of our carbon foil features solid pre-preg carbon fiber layup with continuous unidirectional fibers connecting the shaft (mast) to the fuselage. This is by far the strongest and stiffest connection possible which also allows to keep the shaft and fuselage cross-section minimal, reducing the drag. This construction offers the best strength to weight ratio.

Fuselage Fuselage is designed with the unique cross-section taper where the maximum volume is concentrated in the areas of highest loads. The thickest section is connecting front wing mounting area to the mast intersection; this is the area that transfers the lift of the foil onto the board and supports the complete weight of the sailor, board and rig.

Blended Fuselage to Wing Connection During carving, there can be extreme torsional forces at the fuselage-to-wing connection area. These forces are created by different lifts on the two sides of the main wing. Part of the wing that is inside the curve experiences lower water velocity and creates lower lift. On the opposite side, the wing sees higher water velocity and creates higher lift; this differential in lifts, particularly extreme when using large wings, results in very high torsional load. To make sure there is adequate strength to support this stress, even with heaviest sailors, we designed a very large and wide connection area. This ‘saddle’ distributes torsion force over a larger area and significantly reduces the torque leverage on the wing screws. 53

MASTS

MASTS

Mast program is based around three performance levels: TPX100, SPX90-95 and SPX65. All masts are made using pre-preg technology that ensures optimum control of resin content and resin distribution throughout the laminate (avoiding risk of dry spots that could cause local weakness). All masts are featuring our unique Progressive Flex & Bend Curve, compatible with previous sail models. Higher performance level masts will have higher carbon content reducing the weight of the mast as well as significantly increasing reflex and overall performance.

60

Every NeilPryde sail will perform to its highest potential when used with the specified NeilPryde mast because our sails are designed around our mast curves. The NeilPryde RDM masts are compatible in curve with NeilPryde SDM Masts. Choose a RDM mast for a softer, more forgiving feel and durability and a SDM mast for faster response, stability and more direct feel. We recommend the use of SDM Masts on cambered sails.

TPX100 SDM / RDM 100% carbon prepreg construction using special Torq-Preg construction in the base of the mast. This unique prepreg material features +/- 45 degree fiber orientation. This helps to control torsion, particularly in the boom area. This construction results in extremely light weight mast with very fast response time!

SPX95 SDM / SPX90 RDM 90% carbon in RDM and 95% carbon in SDM. Almost 100% carbon masts made strong! Compared to TPX100 there is additional safety margin in strength built into the mast. Increased hoop prepreg thickness spirally wound around the mast; this layer does not influence the stiffness or bend curve on the mast but increases the strength. It reinforces the column and prevents the mast ovalization during compression, eliminating the main reason of mast breakages.

SPX65 SDM / RDM Now the lowest carbon content in our range. Thanks to the added fiberglass prepreg layers in the lamination process it is virtually indestructible! Use of fiberglass results in considerably thicker wall thickness making it immune to ovalization under compression as well as very resistant to impact damage. In weight it is very close to the previous FLX70 range and we believe this is the minimum carbon content we should recommend for NeilPryde sail.

Progressive Flex & Bend Curve The standout feature of NeilPryde masts is the unique flex and bend curve. Our shorter masts are close to ‘flex-top curve’ while longer masts are closer to ‘constant curve’ - this is why we call it the Progressive Flex and Bend Curve. The distance from the mast bottom to the boom is relatively constant between all mast lengths. Short masts are supported by the boom head at a relatively higher point than long masts. To compensate for much less ‘flexing length’ above the boom, short masts will have a relatively softer top section compared to long ones as there is much more sail area above the boom that needs to be supported by the mast.

All NeilPryde mast models of the same size will have the same bend curve. This means you are not limited to a particular mast model to match your sail. The curve will only differ across different mast sizes, regardless of the model. Because of the importance of the sail and mast relationship, and the complexities involved, it is essential to use a NeilPryde mast with a NeilPryde sail. This ensures you can benefit from the full wind range on offer and spend minimal time tuning. All NeilPryde masts are designed with the NeilPryde Progressive Flex and so when used with a NeilPryde sail they have the correct shaping, twist and ability to remain stable in variable conditions. Higher end carbon masts have a faster reflex response and so the mast will return to its original shape with more speed creating better acceleration, speed and control.

VT-JOINT The NeilPryde VT-Joint provides a stiff boom connection and a more responsive transmission of the sail’s power than any other system used in the market. Key benefits: Increases contact area from the boom attachment to the mast. It can be used on any standard diameter mast. > Reduces chance of point loading. > Minimises ‘play’ between the boom and mast connection. > Allows easy adjustment of boom height. > >

The mast cup provides 2 point of contact between the cup and the mast, creating s tight connection and a great transmission of power. The V-Shape accomodates variation in standard mast diameters. Slightly thinner masts simply sit further into the V while fatter ones sit lower down. The VT-Joint is standard on all NeilPryde booms with an oversized mast cup material composition tailored to suit each boom type: XA & XF – Glass fiber reinforced injection molding XC – Forged carbon composite material

TRIM-LOCK ADJUSTMENT SYSTEM The Twin-Pin design provides ease of tail adjustment, optimal load distribution and a stiff connection between the boom body and tail end.

Pressure Flow Forging – a technology that allows for shaping of exceptionally stiff aluminum tubing. By applying this technology on all our XF booms, we have created the lightest, strongest and most rigid aluminum booms available on the market. This process increases the density of the aluminum and provides the ability to control wall thickness resulting in a far stronger head. Further, we chose to put the boom arms inside the head tube and this results in an outside diameter of the head being increased and bringing a further increase in rigidity and strength.

MXT Used by most sailors on the PWA TOUR, the Mono-Button Mast Base and Extension System (MXT) has been designed to offer a secure, heavy duty connection and ease of operation. The MXT Extensions are fully integrated with stainless steel cleat/pulley bottom assemblies offering the best weight to stiffness ratio and creating very light but also very strong extensions. The weight has been reduced by eliminating all unnecessary plastic while increasing the crosssection of stainless steel parts for increased strength. This part can now withstand over 900kg of downhaul load – twice as much as used on the largest racing sails. The special geometry with tilt bottom pulley makes perfect sail pulley/rope alignment. This allows the sail to be downhauled all the way down (block-to-block) and it reduces downhauling friction.
