MAYA LIN OBJECTIVE To create a merchandising display window for jewelry based on the work of an artist. SOLUTION Designed a windoow based on artist Maya Lin’s Wave. PROCESS Cut small wooden blocks of varying lengths to create the wave, Stained the blocks in 3 different colors to create depth and variety. Mounted the blocks individually to a wooden back using wood glue. Attached pearls in a cascading manner along the ends of the blocks


VOTE WINDOW OBJECTIVE To create a window display for the 2009 elections. SOLUTION Designed a window based on the idea of everyone coming together and being apart of the voting process. Referenced the U.S. Post Office in relation to the fact that everyone’s mail passes through there at some point in time. PROCESS Created 51 3x3 boxes to represent the 51 states. Created labels and stamps for each state and applied them to the boxes. Lined the window with bubble wrap. Filled the excess spaces with packaging peanuts.


DIFFA OBJECTIVE To work in a group to create an 11’ X 11’ dining environment for the Design Industries Foundation Fighting Aids for the annual Dining by Design Fundraiser. SOLUTION Created Off to Grandmother’s House We Go, which was based off of the childhood tale Little Red Riding Hood. We put the focus on the Grandmother and tried to tell the story from her perspective. PROCESS Created the forest, which consisted of numerous tress and branches made out of 1/2” gator board, which were used to frame the space. Sourced different grandmothers and got their faces printed on china. Used various elements in the room to highlight the other characters in the story (hood on table cloth for Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf was located in the moon.



BRAND IDENTITY OBJECTIVE To work in groups of 2 to brand a French perfume for the CIBS - Cosmetic Industries Buyers and Suppliers Annual Luncheon at the Hilton Hotel. SOLUTION Recreated the Jean-Paul Gaultier ‘Classiqe’ perfume bottle. PROCESS Using a bust form we recreated our version of the bottle, which was inspired by various elements found on the Classique bottle over the years. The bust form was covered with a sheer knit and lace, and adorned with hand-made silk rosettes.





FORGET ME KNOT OBJECTIVE To create a kiosk located in Central Park on a topic that related to activities that take place in the park. SOLUTION Created Forget Me Knot Kiosk located in the English Gardens. The goal of the kiosk is to provide information to Central Park visitors about the most romantic places the park has to offer. PROCESS Designed floor plan, materials, logo, and color palette. Designed a presentation book, which included a compilation of the designs and information gathered. APPLICATIONS Vector Works, Google SketchUp, InDesgin, Photoshop, and Illustrator.



PAVE - REVEAL OBJECTIVE Design competition for PAVE - Planning and Visual Education Partnership, in which one had to design a 400 square-ft jewelery department for Macy’s. SOLUTION Created Reveal by Macy’s., which was a forum for new designers to showcase their creations on a national level and get exposure. PROCESS Designed floor plans, fixtures, materials, color palette, logo, signage,. and promotional graphics for space. Designed a presentation book in which all of the information was compiled. APPLICATIONS Vector Works, Google SketchUp, InDesgin, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Color pallette is comprised solely of black and white with metallic and transparent accents. The look is very clean and sophisticated and emphasizes the use of different textures.

All the fixtures are on casters and can be rearranged in the space. The layout options are endless and very flexible based on the needs of each designer. When fixtures are not in use they can be housed in the perimeter wall, which serves as both storage and a display wall.

Large Jewelry Hutch This fixture has multiple drawers for jewelry display, that are topped with glass. The bottom two drawers are reserved for storage.

Consultation Unit This fixture is comprised of two drawers with a glass top. The bottom drawer is reserved for storage.

Tall Stacked Drawers This fixture is composed of stacked drawers in which merchandise can be viewed. These drawers are each covered with a glass top.

Stacked Drawers - Counter Top Unit This is a top of counter unit comprised of stacked drawers, which displays merchandise. All drawers are enclosed with glass.

Chest - Counter Top Unit This is a top of counter unit that has a glass window that allows merchandise to be viewed by customers

Cash Wrap The cash wrap is a multi-functional unit that can be used for display, as well as, storage for packaging and promotional materials.

This graphic will be printed on self-adhesive vinyl that will allow for easy removal and changes when needed. It will be placed in various locations throughout the space, such as, the perimeter wall, the cash wrap, and the large stacked drawers fixture.

PAVE - CAMELLIA OBJECTIVE Design competition for PAVE - Planning and Visual Education Partnership, in which one had to design a sunglasses fixture for B&N. SOLUTION Created Camellia by Chanel, which was a fixture based on a subdivision of Chanel’s accessory line. PROCESS Designed fixture, materials, color palette, and graphics. Designed a presentation book in which all of the information was compiled. APPLICATIONS Vector Works, Google SketchUp, InDesgin, Photoshop, and Illustrator.




Pat Parrish graduated from FIT in 2004 and majored in Jewelry Design. She is presently CEO/Co-founder of Polaris Musiq Works, an independent record label and production company. Formally one of The Marvelettes, her voice has been featured on media for Viacom and Vanguard Communication. She has worked on numerous recordings with notable producers and various recording artists. She has also been consultant and independent acquisition specialist for Paramount Interactive, Producer and Songwriter for the interactive CD-Rom called “Busy Town” & “How Things work in Busy town” Written by Richard Scary.

Nicole Andrews graduated from FIT in 2007 and majored in Advertising and Communications. The former BRAG President has worked for Essence, “O” The Oprah Magazine and Family Circle just to name a few. She has worked under the direction of June Ambrose as a Style Assistant on the BET show Harlem Heights. Currently, she is a grad student at NYU and works as a freelance stylist, editor, and blogger.

OBJECTIVE To create a pamphlet comprised of the guest speakers who were invited to speak at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Black Student Union’s Alumni Forum.

SOLUTION Designed The Little Black Book, which was a compilation of all the speaker’s biographies. PROCESS Designed logo and book layout.

Rob Norman graduated in 1994 with a BFA in Graphic Design. He has worked in various fields from Music, Advertising and the Sports Industry. Within the last 10 years he’s worked in the Fashion Industry as a designer and graphic artist. Working with brands such as, Sean John, Nautica, and Reebok. Rob went on to launch two lines of his own with major companies. Now currently Art Director for a young men’s line and is developing other projects for outside clients.

Kevin Sheffield has worked in the apparel industry for 15 years. Starting from his days of 7th on Sixth, as a fashion show volunteer, to a dresser for Audrey Smaltz and the Ground Crew. From a freelance tailor for fashion photo shoots to a stylist working on projects for Teen People magazine. From a design intern for the likes Betsy Johnson and Tommy Hilfiger, to a designer for Phat Farm and technical designer for DKNY Jeans. Currently he is a Design Technology analyst for Liz Claiborne Inc., a Professor for apparel related technology at Marist College, and trainer for 24 Seven Inc. Every aspect of his previous employment has lead him to become a specialist in the apparel design process. He works as a leader in the industry defining the decisions a company needs to make when choosing technology to streamline the product development process.

SNEAK PEEK OBJECTIVE To create a temporary bookstore located in Vanderbilt Hall. SOLUTION Developed Sneak Peek, which is a bookstore comprised of books related to sneakers. The store features the most up-to-date information on what’s hapening in the sneaker world, and also includes a design lab where clients can customize their sneakers. PROCESS Developed store layout, fixtures, lighting plan, materials, logo, and color palette. Designed a presentation book in which all of the information was compiled. APPLICATIONS Vector Works, Google SketchUp, InDesgin, Photoshop, and Illustrator.


CONVERSE For their 100th anniversary Converse put together a series of books detailing Converse’s history and interviews of 100 celebrities and fans that love their kicks. The neatly designed bounded book-box contains a safely stowed, limited-edition pair of sneakers.

There are currently hundreds of books dedicated to sneaker lovers! Everything from collector’s guides, to design history, to brand wars are being covered. Sneakers have created a $12.1 billion industry and now accounts for 40% of the footwear sold in the United States. The sneaker is no longer just a shoe. It is a machine. So dwell no more and jump on board!

Is created from 24 retrofitted containers. The 24 containers are put together to create a 3 story store with over 11,000 sqf. Puma City is a transportable retail and event building that is traveling around the world along with the 70-foot long Puma sailing boat.

COLOR IN BLOOM OBJECTIVE To create an in-store promotional campaign for a retail environment based on an Art History movement. SOLUTION Designed the Color in Bloom campaign, which was based on the works of Modern artist William Rothko. The goal was to fuse the products offered at Banchet Flowers with the aesthetic of Rothko’s paintings and carry out the theme throughout the space. PROCESS Designed logo, color palette, graphics to be used throughout the space, signage plan, and informational brochure. APPLICATIONS Photoshop, Illustrator, and Vector Works.

THE BUTTERFLY CONSERVATORY OBJECTIVE To develop environmental graphics and promotional pieces for a museum exhibit. SOLUTION Created a modern and graphic design for The Butterfly Conservatory at the Museum of Natural History. PROCESS Designed color palette, logo, ticket, brochure, exterior banner, introductory panel, interpretive panel, and object label for the exhibit. APPLICATIONS Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.





R&R - REST & RELAXATION OBJECTIVE To develop a line of personal care products. SOLUTION Created the R&R brand that is based on the soothing properties of aroma therapy. PROCESS Developed logo, color palette, and packaging design for 3 products within the line. Styled and photographed the products for a promotional advertisement. PAPIER VIOLET OBJECTIVE To create a brand and product line that represents me as a person. SOLUTION Developed Papier Violet, which is a line of ecofriendly stationary based on the color violet. PROCESS Designed logo, color palette, materials, envelopes, and note cards. Created a base using a birch log that had slots in it so that the envelopes could slide in them. The stationary set is small enough that it can sit on one’s desk without being a disturbance. APPLICATIONS Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.



SWEET & CHIC OBJECTIVE To create a line of confectionary chocolates or candy. SOLUTION Developed Sweet & Chic, which is a line of cupcakeflavored chocolate truffles. PROCESS Designed logo, color palette, and packaging for 3 different flavors. Molded cupcake interior with clay and a metal base. The interior structure doubles as a jewelry box, thus the product is very giftable. APPLICATIONS Illustrator and Photoshop.

TRADITIONAL TEA PARTY OBJECTIVE To work as a team of four to develop a themed still life photoshoot. SOLUTION: Created a traditional style tea party. PROCESS Sourced all china and silverware. Sourced fabrics for table top and backdrop. Experimented with the arrangement of items, lighting, and different angles for the shot. Photographed the shoot.


ROUGE OBJECTIVE To work as a team of four to develop a table top advertisement for a product. SOLUTION Developed Rouge, which was a lipstick advertising campaign. PROCESS Sourced lipstick colors, background materials, table top surface, and calendar. Styled and accessorized the shoot by experimenting with items and their positioning. Photographed the shoot while experimenting with lighting, depth of field, and angles.
